He lifted his head to listen to the distant sound of crashing waves...
"I imagine it must be... " he would have talked of wings and flying...but how could he make her understand without causing some pain of longing... such a thing he could hardly help her with...

She took a few steps toward him and tilted her head so she could look at the wings attached to his sides. "I bet it's fun to fly?" She loved feeling the breeze whipping though her hair as it raced across the waves so imagining that everywhere seemed like a dream.

He looked asshamed almost that he could not...
"Not some human mind you... Sooner I carry someone who may appreciate it truely... though as someone who has yet to set foot in the water...perhaps it is something of the nature of birds and fish...I fear greatly my wings would draw me down.."

She remembered her mother talking about stories the Natives told about birds and fish and how the two were never to meet. She didn't believe a lick of that with how many birds she saw living off the life in the sea.
"Birds and fish go together perfectly. You should come to the ocean. There are so many birds that live off the fish .. some even disappear under the waves only to come back up as if nothing happened."

"As long as you promise to behave yourself and not try anything funny." She flashed him a smile before tossing her head and turning back toward the sea.
It was her duty somehow to show the poor bird the joys of the ocean. He could even get in it as long as he kept to the shallower water and didn't try sending his feathers for a dip. After all he had to get wet in the rain right? So a few splashes here and there couldn't hurt.

He moved with measured steps to stand with her...and yet remained at a respectful distance.

Her tail flicked behind her as she laughed and lead him toward the ocean. As the dirt started to return to sand she felt more comfortable. It was so much more familiar and felt more like home.

The sand was difficult to walk in...shifting under his feet like a strange sort of bog. He flaired his wings...and sometimes just the bony ghosts of them in small efforts to keep his balance.
He'd chosen to walk with her in order to be on equal terms...not to flaunt the differences for once, but rather to celebrate how completely tollerable he found her so far.
How strange...he thought... to find someone who may be as close as he had yet found to a kindred spirit, born from the sea.

Stopping a bit ahead of him she trotted easily around in a circle. "Wonderfully easy to walk in to me. So much better than that hard nasty dirt stuff" She nudged some of the sand around with a foot. "Try not to set your weight all one one leg. Shouldn't be too hard for one like yourself"
He was so much more interesting then the other's she'd met. He didn't treat her like her occasional snarky comments were bad and he actually seemed interested in the fact that she liked the ocean.

"I'm afraid I spend a somewhat limited time on my feet...and what I do is normally on that nasty dirt...or worse... that horrid stone" he says with a small laugh...
"I feel a colt again... or like to snap myself in peices if this gets much softer" ...he didn't fully mean it...yet still his bulk opposed to his ankles in a soft and sliding sand could be of some interest...
"It's rather a bit of fancy footwork...small wonder you walk so light on your feet!"

"You'll get used to it." She flicked her mane and headed down the beach toward the water. The wet sand was easier to walk on since it held up to movement better. He'd probably like that better.

Breaking her neck certainly didn't sound like something she wanted to do. "We'll have to see about that." She trotted into the waves and turned around to face him.
"Come on feather head. I promise you won't melt if you get wet"

"Are you sure? If I wash away as flotsom I will hold you to blame for it..." he teases... and found to his great releef that the wet sand bore his wight more gladly than did the shifting dry sand... indeed...the water was cold where it splashed around his hooves though not bad...salty...mineral really.
