hey if it wasn't for mutations we would all have died out by now xd

You do realize that what you said doesn't really help the subject. My arm isn't a mutation, its just something that'll happen to a developing embryo every so often.

Back to the subject: I have a question, why are there so many flips? Are those connected with deception and how practical are they?

i never said ur arm was a mutation. And just because my point is irrelevant, doesnt make it any less true sweatdrop

well the art of deception was that the slaves who came up with capoeira were trying to hide their "training" by making it look like a dance so that they looked like they were dancing not fighting or learning to anywayy. and also more to your point is you have to learn to read your opponents movement to know what they are going to do next- when you are the opponent you can challenge yourself and your partner by trying to see how well you can make your move and for them to react to it. do you see where im getting at. how practical it is is being able to read your opponents basically or the other way round too.

Chocosamurai is quite right here. Like I was saying before, flashy flips and what not today are just the things that get butts in the seats. Granted, if you become proficient with all of that, you can use it to put Jackie Chan out of a job rofl .
In all seriousness, it's like pitting someone with a Chinese jian against someone with a katana. If you know what you're doing, you could be fighting with a paper fan and still win. In the case of ground work, you'll just have to favor one side for a lot of the moves, but definitely try it out!

To All CAPOERISTAS: Add me! lol

Awesome! I only wish that I could have enjoyed it as much as you have! I only got one year and a half! Know what the kicker is though? I HAD TO LEAVE BEFORE MY BATIZADO!!! That really sucked... crying

Just so you guys know, a Batizado is like a promotion test for Capoeira. There isn't any necessary criteria that you have to know in order to get new cordels or belts. It is based wholly on your merit within the eyes of your maestre.

I'm so happy, I found a cool school out in Sacramento that I'm going to right now. They're pretty awesome, but their Batizado is in Sept! Oh well, there's still the place by my college.

Anyhow, I'm here to answer questions, so people feel free!

Whats that one move called where you sweep your legs around you on the ground? You use your hands to hold you up.

Hmm... not giving me much to work with here Jae-Sung. Many of the sweeps called Rasteira require your hands, but even if you didn't have any arms, you could still support yourself with your head. If you mean one of those pretty, flashy moves that looks like it's breakdancing either a) it is break dancing or b) it's what's called a Floreirio (not sure if I spelled it right, I'm tired so give me a break lol) these are simply cool looking moves for the game and not actual combative Capoeira. Many of the moves can be altered however, for different body types. A perfect example is Au, or cartwheel. This move can become Au Sem Mao or no hands cartwheel. Some moves on the other hand, are not necessarily for your body type Jae-Sung. This would be moves like Bananaeira, Escorpiao, and Arraria. Not to worry, there are plenty of others you can, so get out there and Ginga baby!

I'm not sure if this helps with my question or not but in "The Protector" starring Tony Jaa, he does a move like what i describe. I've only seen parts of the movie so if he does several of those types of sweeps i wouldn't know about them.
