"Y'seen the construction down th'way a'all? Got me lad Gaius buildin' a theater for me. Fer' everyone," He corrected strategically, "I'm jes' workin' on th'wha' comes next bit. Bugger if I know shite all aboo' this stuff, now it's come to it." He laughed at that, as though just now realizing the lunacy of his idea, but still he felt it was a GOOD idea, nutters or not.

"Not really," she said. She'd actually taken to avoiding the area since it seemed somewhat haphazard and dangerous. "That's going to be a theater?"

Suddenly a lot of things started to make sense. She glanced down at the pile of scripts. "And you're the director?"

"I li' t'thin' o' it more as... Master o' Ceremonies," He grinned, "Aint go' too much t'direct jes' yet. S'hard t'get anyone aroun' here t'do mech' o' anyth'in' tha' involves coordination," He chuckled, "E'eryone's too busy mopin' aboo' abou' feckin' inevitabilities." it was a big word for the octopus, and he was rather proud of himself for pronouncing it. "I ha' tha' flier up fer months, I've gotten three actual try-outs, an' one o' them was me bloody gelfriend. Been rethinkin'... me plan o' action. No' sure ye'd be interested in th'new plan, though."

"New plan?" This was all...wow. She hadn't even suspected that there was this much going on! Yes, she'd seen that there was a board up with pieces of paper, but she'd never been interested enough to take a look.

But a full-fledged theater, complete with try-outs and a building coming up...this was a lot. The octopus even had a good point about the inevitability of things on the island and how it tended to cause depression.

"You've really thought this all through," she commented, eyes wide.

There was another four-limbed shrug as he tore into his fish once again, the wriggling growths on his chin coiling about the fins as though to give it a taste before ingesting. "Aint go' much else t'think aboo'. Keeps me busy. Woo aboo' you, then? Besides gettin' fat on fish?" He chuckled, meaning it as a friendly joke. Unfortunately not many appreciated Billy's sense of humor.

Chana's mouth twisted slightly. It wasn't her fault that a beaver had a much higher percentage of body fat than a human. She'd never been skinny, but she doubted she'd ever get near her old body type again.

"I read a few things a lot, watch some movies." She shrugged. "I generally spend most of my days out swimming. I guess I don't see enough people to hear about things going on."

"Y'don' look around none? Gotta' be feckin' borin' as sin. So wha' yer... an otter?" He looked her up and down, trying to figure out what sort of creature she was. He was never the most learned of islanders, and would undoubtedly benefit from a picture book about animals.

She was getting frustrated. So what if she didn't do much? If she wasn't content with what she had...she'd lose it. All of it. Ignorance was bliss and it was all she had.

But then he thought she was an otter. The beaver laughed long and loud, displaying her buck teeth and slapping the floor with her tail. "An...an otter! Oh...oh G-d no! I'm a beaver!" And she continued laughing. If the laughter was a bit hysterical, it wasn't likely the octopus would notice now was it?

"Can' say I know th'difference," He grinned back at her, amused by her apparent amusement, "All y'mammals look alike t'me these days." He gave a chuckle, ripping at a fresh fish with one limb and tossed the ragged messy bones onto his tray with another.

The beaver, finally calmed, grinned and shrugged. "It works. I still can't tell you which fish is which. At least I can taste the difference," she added with a wink.

"Hell if I know anythin'. Flyin' by th'seat o' me pants anymore," He gave the silver collar still around his neck an uncomfortable rub, still grinning as he eyed the critter, and memory started to come crawling back. "We met b'fer?"

Chana nodded. "That we did. It was a while back, and neither of us was quite what we are now." She pursed her lips and thought back a bit. "It might be about a year ago that we met."

"Still ha' all me bones then, huh?" He licked the fish-gore from his beak, mouth twisting up into a grin again, "Ain't so much o' a looker now, am I?" Not that he was to begin with, but according to Billy, that was just a matter of personal opinion.

"Bones? I suppose so," Chana responded vaguely. She'd never been great at biology...how was she to know if octopi had bones or not?

"Well," she said with a wicked smile, "I'm sure a squid would find you the handsomest around."

"Lemurs, actually," He corrected, chuckling as he finished off his meal and tossed the bits back onto the plate. His fins twitched and quivered as he tried to pick the bones from between the remnant molars.
