Absently testing his paw on the ground, he knew that it wasn't broken. Most likely a small sprain, seeing as he wasn't a cat and wolves weren't known as being able to stick landings.

When Kek stepped back to admire his handiwork, Deimos gave himself one last vigorous shake in an effort to get rid of as many leaves as possible. Turning, he spotted the purple male all ready at the top of the slope and hastened after him, limping only a little.

Reaching the top, he stood tall in the shadows cast by the trees, his tail held high and his neck arched with a regal bearing. The final rays of the setting sun made his blue eyes glint like amber and sapphires before it completely disappeared beneath the horizon. For that single, short moment, he looked like the alpha he was destined to be.

Dipping his head, he grinned. "Lead on, my friend. I'll watch for any offenders from back here."

A shining moment in the last of the evening light. One wolf, small, but by poise alone the dominant male. Tail held high, neck arched, red and white fur blazing with the last of the days golden light he stood and proclaimed to all that he was indeed a regal soul. Kek stood nearby, watching the male with admiration behind his pale, content gaze. His bushy tail wagged back and forth slowly, in time with some unheard beat. His violet fur was stained maroon by the sunsets rays, long shadows casing part of the male in shadow. The aura between the two wolves was as radiant and warm as the suns' final farewell.

Kek reached out his neck and gave one final sniff at Deimos' paws. He had noticed his slight stumble, and though was sure there was no permanant damage inflicted, a little extra caution never hurt.

As Deimos dipped his head, Kek allowed an easy-going, lop-sided grin to cross his features. "Just be careful," he mused, giving Deimos one last look before turning on his heels and beginning the hunt for his current home. "Those trees can be mighty tricky."

Trotting forward, his pace was an easy lope. First and foremost, he was sore and his ribs were tender - movement itself wasn't exactly comfortable. Secondly, he was keeping Deimos' potential sprain in mind. Sore paws were about as comfortable as sore ribs. Last but not least, Kek was in no rush to see the evening end, for he knew what was soon to come - the farewell, the well wishes, the false hope to meet again. It wasn't easy to make a good friend while running wild without a pack - lones drifted and tended not to stay in one place.

No matter how good the intentions, no matter how well ones company was enjoyed, nine times out of ten it seemed that the acquaintences were never seen again. In some cases, life got in the way - in others, pure lazy nature caused them to not put forth effort in the friendship. Life was unpredictable, and there was no telling what would become of Deimos.

A shame, really. But even if they did part ways, Kek would make an effort to seek him out again. Whether or not Deimos would return the favor in kind was left up to the future.

No need to think about it tonight.

Zig-zagging his way through the underbrush, he kept to the lead but drifted so he was closer to Deimos' side. A silence fell, but Kek wasn't sure if it was comfortable or awkward. He supposed had he not been who he was, and what he was, it would have been more the former. But stray thoughts, wicked pleasures, and an optimistic imagination kept him inwardly on guard. He truly didn't wish to alienate a good friend by silly notions. Deimos was a friend, and . . that was that.

Kek couldn't and wouldn't ever ask for more.

"It's not far," he finally spoke, glancing over at his friend with a lazy smile. "How's that paw feeling. . .?" The sooner Deimos rested and took some weight off of it, the better. He didn't want the male to strain himself, but then again, perhaps Kek was merely being overly cautious.

The spotted male limped along, preoccupied with thoughts of Alexander and where he was, and also thoughts of Kek. The purple wolf was an enigma to him, yet he didn't understand why yet. There was just . . . something . . . about Kekarn that was different; he could simply be on the last legs of a sane mind, but Deimos was certain that whatever was different about the other male resonated with something inside of himself. Him and Kek were the same somehow, but he hadn't discovered just how yet.

He belatedly put Kek's words in order and shook himself as he walked, hoping it would help him concentrate. Exhaustion, pain, and hunger all made him feel sluggish, and all he wanted to do was curl up in a nice warm spot next to a warm, comforting body. With all that fluffy purple fur, Kek seemed to be a prime choice for the latter.

Some wolves teased him about always wanting to cuddle, because it was a weakness that only puppies needed. Not only that, but he had heard the whispers through the woods. Whispers that questioned why two males were forming a pack together. Of course the gossip would fly, and eventually be exaggerated, but what did he care about others' thoughts? Alexander was his friend; the best friend a wolf could have. That's all that mattered to him.

"Not feeling any better, but not feeling any worse," he answered, albeit belatedly. Either Kek had slowed down, or he had picked up his pace, but Deimos suddenly found himself walking beside the huge purple male, and he brushed the side of his body against Kek's. What would Kek say about what Alexander and him were doing?

"Kek? What's your take on two males forming a pack together? Do you think that's weird, like everyone else?" Though he was growing more everyday, the question, and the way it was asked with such innocence, made the fact that he was barely out of puppyhood very obvious.

Yet in the next instant, his ears folded back along his skull and he snarled into the darkness, white teeth flashing in the moonlight, looking for all the world like an alpha defending one of his pack mates. "They can all chew on toadstools if they don't like it," he growled, huffing out an indignant breath of air. "I see nothing wrong with it."

Kek trotted beisdes Deimos, night fast fallen in the woods. The sound of the nearby river tickeled the ears, and a few night birds could be heard scurrying through the trees. But overall, life was beginning to settle in for the evening. Kek himself was feeling exhaustion set in to his bones, and he was glad that they weren't far from his current residence.

Trotting beside the male, he was pleased. It felt nice to be with a friend, even if the red and white wolf was still a bit of a mystery. They had only just met, but Kek hoped that this was a friendship he could keep and cherish. It was his lucky day this day. . . with any luck, it would continue. A wolf, no matter how agressive, couldn't live a life completely alone.

Still trotting beside the male, he made sure to allow his tail to occassionally brush against his own. Innocent, but Kek was addicted to touch and the senses. It had been a very long time since there was someone he could feel, someone he could talk to, play with, cuddle and snuggle. Maybe . . .

Hnn. He'd ask later, and didn't get his hopes up, but poor Deimos could use a break. Perhaps he wouldn't mind crashing with Kek for the evening.

His thoughts broke through at the red male's reply. No better, no worse, eh? Well, he was sure the wolf would only get to feeling worse the longer he stayed on his feet. Wheels working, he was about to invite the male to stay with him this evening when Deimos asked another question.

And this time, Kek couldn't help but give a double take. "Two males?" He asked mildly, a bit of surprise lacing his voice. Unlike many who thought it strange and different, the surprise in the purple males words wasn't out of fear of the unknown, it was out of shock that a question like tha would be directed at him! Oh the irony of life.

A warm smile crossed his features, and the male shook his head. "Weird? Not in the least," he responded confidently. Maybe he wasn't the right wolf to ask - he did have some extreme biases on the issue. Hnnn. . . . if that were the case, though, wouldn't it only be fair to let Deimos know as much?

. . . . Kek wasn't sure he wanted to do that. Well, maybe he'd see how this conversation went. Two males leading a pack was a little bit different than two males calling each other mate. Thus far, though, the red and white male's snarl made him feel a smidge better about his own secret. Perhaps this was one he could confide in.

"That's the spirit," he encouraged warmly, tail wagging a bit. "It's easier said than done, but the only wolves whose opinions should matter would be those you love and care for most dearly, and most importantly your own. Let the rest of the forest talk, so long as you're happy, or the two wolves leading the pack are, then who cares? Why does it always have to be alpha male and alpha female. . . I don't remember agreeing to such instinctive rules."

Kek's words were confident, his body posture a bit proud, and yet . . . there was something else. A sort of reminiscent fogginess, as if he were speaking from memory or (perhaps) experience. As if the words he told Deimos were ancient, as if they had been uttered and explained before. There was no shock at the idea of two alpha males running together. . .

But then again, Kek wasn't the most fundamentalist of wolves out there either. He was unnatural, or so others claimed. But unlike many, he was happy in his life and his decisions and choices and experience. So what if it wasn't what the rest of the world approved of.

Hearing Kek's approval made Deimos feel much better, even though he had just said that he didn't care what others thought. But, if that were the case, and if Kek's words were true, that would make Kek his friend, now wouldn't it?

"Kek? May I stay with you tonight? I have a den as well, but it's clear past the rocks on the other side of this land. My paw won't last me that long, and truthfully, I'd enjoy a night of company instead of cold solitude."

Flicking an ear back, he stared up at the moon and wondered where Alexander was at that moment. Was he alone too? They hadn't seen each other for a while now, which wasn't odd, but it was starting to get to that point where Deimos really missed his friend's company. Or anyone's, for that matter.

Looking back at Kek, he grinned, tongue lolling and tail wagging lazily over his back.

The violet wolf glanced over his shoulder at his new friend, and allowed his fuzzy tail to wag a bit swifter. Pale eyes brightened at the query, and he leaned over to give Deimos cheek a gentle, friendly nudge. "No need to explain," he started happily, "I was about to ask if you'd stay myself."

Well, at least the goodbyes could be held off until the morning. For now, this evening, he would have a friend to curl up besides. A companion to travel with him in to the world of dreams and thoughts, anothers breath to listen to, anothers life to share warmth with. The violet male was quite looking forward to a nights companionship.

"I will warn you, though," he added, a small chuckel rumbling through his throat. "I hope you won't be too offended by my close proximity. I have a tendancy to . . . . snuggle." It was the truth. The male had always been drawn towards others, and had never lacked such attention from his family.

After Kek seperated and traversed upon his own, he'd always much preferred another wolf to curl up besides. Physical touch was something he craved, something he enjoyed. He didn't look at it as a weakness, as he could still properly function without contact from any for days, weeks, months if need be. It was merely a personal preference, a comfort to his mind and spirit.

Thus, he was very pleased by Deimos' question. It would do his heart well this evening, remind him that good wolves still roamed the world.

A few moments later, the pair pushed through the heaviest of the under brush. Grass and dead leaves from the previous fall littered the ground, and the scent of spring was heavy on the cool nights air. A few flowers were asleep near the fallen, moss-covered tree. The large oak had lived a long life, and the large burrow beneath it had been home to a host of animals and families before Kek took it over.

Trotting in a circle around Deimos, the male gave a small smile. "Well here it is," he stated, brushing past the young male and jumping to the top of the fallen tree. He stood over his makeshift den and sniffed the surrounding area - it seemed a badger had taken some interest in the burrow earlier but the creature had either fled or was out.

If he were to come back soon, he'd be in for quite the surprise. Not one set of fangs would be resting, but two!

Shaking out his coat, the male instantly regretted the action. Wincing, he ducked his head and privately gritted his teeth. Oh yeah. . . ribs were still a smidge on the sore side. . . and wasn't that the understatment of the year!

More and more, his body longed to collapse. A good nights sleep would do wonders, he was sure.

As soon as they hit refuge, Deimos thumped to the ground, completely exhausted. He was only a few short seconds away from oblivion when he heard the soft exhalation of breath. Ears flicking forward, he lifted his head and stared with concerned blue eyes up at Kek, then pushed himself to his feet again.

"Come on, get down from there. You'll hurt yourself more," he grumbled, voice rough with concern. Pawing at the ground, he moved closer to to Kek and grabbed a mouthful of the purple wolf's neck ruff in his jaws, tugging slightly. It wasn't enough to pull the bigger male down, because he didn't want to risk hurting Kek more, but he wanted to get his point across.

It was time to cuddle, damnit, his puppyisms reminded him, which made him wag his tail a little. Moving back to his spot, the spotted wolf spun around in a circle half a dozen times before laying down, waiting for Kek to do the same before he settled in completely.

Kek offered a little whine as the red and white male tugged on the scruff of his neck. What? Couldn't a guy survey his domain (temporary and petty as it might be)? He wouldn't hurt himself so long as he remembered not to do anything vigorous. Still, Deimos seemed intent on getting him down.

"I'm comin', I'm comin'," he muttered, stifling a yawn as the violet one jumped down off the tree. He wouldn't argue that his health was in his own paws, and that he was confident standing on a over-grown log wouldn't kill him. Still, the fussing was endearing.

Letting Deimos find a spot to settle first, Kek yawned and stretched (carefully!). Ugh. . . . his side was still bruised and stiff, and tomorrow it wasn't going to be any better. but why worry about the morning when the eve was still fast upon them?

Resisting the urge to give his fur one last good shake, he padded softly over to Deimos. Trotting around the male, he slide his body half-around him, settling in a bit of an awkward 'u'. He gave the male a few friendly licks, before resting his head and body against Deimos' side and shoulder.

The cool night now had to wage war against two wolves coats and a shared sense of body heat. The cold night was going to fail.

"Sweet dreams, Deimos," he murmured, snuggling closer and allowed his body to fully relax. He couldn't resist the night for long, not when he was so comfortable.

Smiling, the young male let his body relax completely, something he hadn't done in a long time. He usually always slept well, but his muscles were never completely relaxed in case he had to move abruptly. Well, if anything wanted him to move tonight, they'd be hard pressed to do so.

Turning his head to lick on of Kek's paws, Deimos curled closer to his friend and let his eyes drift closed. Just on the edge of sleep, he murmured, "You as well, my friend." Than the soothing darkness closed in.
