It's been sunny weather for most of the time Ian's been on the Island, and because of that, he's been sporting quite the tan. However, today he notices that his hands in particular have become a shade lighter, and the strange phenomena is coupled with aches and pains the entire day. Then, rather unexpectedly, it happens: Ian's finger push together and fuse, webbing crawling up between his remaining fingers. His feet, too, have a similar transformation, though on top of their merging, they painfully grow longer into effective flippers, but clumsy for walking with.
The pain spreads to his abdomen, and before his very eyes Ian's boyish figure distorts and pushes out in two points, creating two rather seahorse-like ridges around his torso. He may not realize it until later, but during this process, a pain in his hips indicates that he's lost about two inches of height.
Finally, the skin of his ear aches as it's shape flattens, becoming more of a circular flab of skin than an ear. Two spines sprout from the top and bottom of each ear, an early indication of what would later be fins. On the upside, however, any wounds Ian had sported before have healed, and his fainting spells will happen less often.
Well, now, that's not normal...

The morning after you cut the webbing on your right had is an oddly chilly one, far colder than usual on this island. If you where to open your eyes you’d be able to see the somewhat dense sit that’s formed around the island. But you can’t. At all actually. Not matter how hard you try, your eyes refuse to open even the tiniest sliver, as if there where glued completely shut.
If you inspect your hand, you’ll find the webbing as re-grown somewhat, but not entirely, it’ll take the rest of the next few days to grow completely back
Your only clue as to why you’ve been given this affliction is a strange ethereal voice, speaking gibberish in your ear as you woke up. Had you been able to understand, you have heard it say “Do not attempt such a thing again, you will suffer the consequences”

Ian's attempt to defile the workings of the Wave obviously set it off when it made him blind, but the punishment is nothing in comparison to the violence of the next change. Unbeknownst to Ian, his hair begins to turn white at the roots, and it spreads half-way through the dark color before finally stopping, his skin paling from it's usual tan all throughout the day. In contrast, dark patches begin to form, but they have no feel to them, making them impossibly for Ian to discover on his own. It starts when Ian's fingers fully fuse, the webbing thickening to be perfect for swimming. His hands pale even further until they are nearly white, and the patches of skin that had darkened become hard and rough, like that of the animal he is to become. A splitting pain tears at his sides as his torso is segmented even further into accordion-like shapes, and through all this pain, his legs begin to shorten, making up for his loss in weight by stealing nearly half a foot of his height. His feet are the next to be hit with the change, as they shorten and widen to something more similar to the shape of his hands, clearly now fins no longer suitable for walking on but perfect for swimming with. On his head, the rest of his earfins sprout like spines coming forth from his skull, but that by far is not as painful as the terrible sinus pressure that pushes his nose forward and wider into a small muzzle. In the meanwhile, a bulbous shape forms in the middle of his forehead like an Indian-style decoration, then dangles in front of his face with a long, thin growth. Over the next day or so, it will begin to emit an eerie glow, one in which the boy will not be able to control. From his lower back, segmented bits of tail come forth piece by piece until it is long enough to wrap halfway around one leg. By the end of the week, it will be long enough to wrap around a multitude of things, and it seems to have a mind of it's own, it's structure rather similar to his warped torso. And then, finally, in some twisted form of mercy, the Wave undoes the spell upon his eyes, allowing him to see the changes that he had been forced to endure while blind.

Things haven't been going well for Ian at all--he finally gets to see Alcine and this thing decides it wants to take her away? Not on his watch! However, despite his struggles with the Wave, he will find that the moment Dark says, "Go," he has no choice but to obey. Against his will, his body starts to act on it's own, walking away from the two towards the Lagoon. If that weren't bad enough, all of his skin suddenly feels overly dry, as if too much movement would cause it to crack open. The fact that his skin starts turning black doesn't help the situation. The moment Ian reaches water, his body is met with calm, and yet, moments later, the changes get ten times worse. Patterns of black and white creep up Ian's body with surprising alacrity, climbing up his arms and legs and across his back until most of his upper body is covered in the two-colored pattern. As the pattern overtakes his tail, it starts a growth spurt of it's own, painfully pulling Ian's spine longer and longer as it curls beneath him. To the same effect, as the patterns reach his face it feels like someone is pulling on the small lure on his forehead--as well as his nose. With a sharp pressure in his sinuses, Ian's face actually begins to distort into a snout, though his lower lip remains mostly unchanged. While this all occurs, the color drains from his hair, leaving it mostly a snowy white to compliment his now-black skin. Most dismaying about the event is when Ian's legs begin to shrink even more, his spine aligning to the tail instead of his new 'finlets'. As an aftereffect, sharp spines uncurl from his arms and shoulders, giving the boy at least some defense until the shock and pain subsides.
