She had hoped for an easy battle, considering Brayden's state at Stark Mountain. She had thought it would be easy to catch him alone. But he was never alone, she realized, as she motioned her Skuntank forward in another Slash. The poison worsened, as Gin'iro fell, slipping to his feet just as easily, but Brayden knew his partner couldn't withstand much longer. He felt his breath catch as every second ticked by. He had to finish this up quickly.
"Another Fire Blast, come on, just a few more minutes, please hang on!" he begged, worry starting to seep in. He knew that Gin'iro would never forgive him if Brayden recalled him before he was through. But Brayden knew he could never forgive himself if he caused Gin'iro to fall. Even a faint was too much for him. He would never let his friends suffer because of him!
Gin'iro stuck to it, blasting another intense wave of flames at the Skuntanks, relentlessly pressing on, despite the increased danger of the poison.

"One more, and that'll do, kay?" Brayden pleaded with the Ninetails, growing more and more worried as the poison continued to weaken his partner. The Ninetails considered the request for a moment, before looking to the Skuntank. He nodded silently, stumbling a bit as he released another Fire Blast. Brayden sighed in relief, glad that Gin'iro would agree to be called back after he took out the poison type.

((Oooohhoooo. XD Nice. Brayden doesn't appreciate it, but I always like when the npc battles are a challenge. XD Hehe. He's not gonna like this. I can't even remember the last time one of Brayden's Pokemon fainted...))
"No.... NO!" Brayden cried, realizing that there was no way to recall Gin'iro now. The Ninetails looked grim, there was no way he would survive the remainder of this turn. Gin'iro was already looking dreadfully weak, barely able to keep on his feet as he stumbled again, this time nearly falling face first into the dust.
"No... Gin..." Brayden whispered, shaking his head in denial. There had to be a way.... But he knew, once Mean Look took its hold, there was no way to break it, not even by the power of the Pokeball.
"Come back, Gin'iro... I can send someone else out... Maybe..." but the Ninetails shook his head, smiling grimly as he dashed towards the Golbat, unwilling to go down without one last blow. The Ninetails' eyes flashed for a moment, as the cavern exploded in a gale of psychic energy as Gin'iro used Extrasensory, using up the last of his strength as the poison ran its course.
Gin'iro crumpled, unable to continue, as he let out a whimper that brought tears to Brayden's eyes.

Brayden hung his head as he recalled his patner. The tears ran freely now, as he whispered, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," over and over again, as if Gin'iro could hear him.
Brayden's eyes flashed with determination, as he brought another Pokeball to his hand. Throwing it revealed Ariadne. The Gardevoir paused, unable to get a clear reading on her trainer in the swirl of mixed emotions. But one rang out stronger than the other.
Rage. Pure, unbridled rage.
The Gardevoir turned to the Golbat, eyes narrowing dangerously. She would defend her trainer, no matter what!

Brayden knew he had to think quick to beat this woman. Her skill with battle was apparent, despite the fact that Brayden was winning, he didn't want to let his guard down.
Not after what happened to Gin'iro...
Brayden shuddered, looking to Ariadne, who nodded. Although weakened by the Shadow Ball, she was still raring to go, feeding off of the emotions of her trainer, she concentrated, sending a powerful Psychic at the Golbat. The cave once again flashed in multicolor as the psychic attack started, flashing as it slammed into the bat.
Brayden's eyes hardened slightly, unnoticeable except by the psychic type beside him. Ariadne looked to Brayden curiously, not understanding the sudden swirl of emotions running through her trainer. It seemed almost...
...evil?

Brayden motioned Ariandne forward once again. "Psychic, one last time, girl," he requested. "Make her pay for hurting Gin..." he whispered, the tears still flowing. His eyes were hard and cold, however.
"Make them pay..." he stated, glaring at the opponent.
Ariadne nodded solemly, sending another blast of psychic energy at the Golbat, effectively putting it out of commission and ending the match.
That didn't bring any joy to Brayden, however, as that still left the matter of Gin'iro.
"I wasn't strong enough..." he murmured sadly.

Brayden watched her go, glaring all the while as he wiped his tears, refusing to say a word to Jupiter. He knew he needed to get stronger, so that it wouldn't happen again.
"I'm not giving up," he stated flatly, once Jupiter had vanished.
"I'm going to get stronger!" he insisted, recalling Ariadne. After a moment to compose himself, he sent out Gin'iro, using Potion after Potion to get the Ninetails back in health.
Gin'iro started out weak, the lingering effects of the poison still doing its work, as he dizzily stood.

"I'm sorry..." Brayden whispered, burying his head in the Ninetail's fur as he hugged Gin'iro. The fox looked startled for a moment, unused to seeing the weaker side of Brayden. But after a moment, Gin'iro nuzzled Brayden's cheek, licking it reassuringly as he tried to assure Brayden that it was alright.
Brayden still blamed himself, however, that fact would never change. He had always tried his best to assure that his Pokemon NEVER fainted in battle. Now that Gin'iro, one of his closest friends amongst his party, had fallen, Brayden had no choice but to blame himself.

"I'll get stronger," Brayden assured Gin'iro. "Strong enough so that we can stand side by side against Lance, and not worry," he smiled faintly.
"I'll make sure that my weakness doesn't cause your downfall anymore," he finished, rising with a shaky breath, as Gin'iro barked happily, glad to see the old Brayden starting to shine through once more.
Their relaxation wasn't meant to last long, however, as a rumbling sounded from behind them. Brayden whirled, unsure as to what it was that lurked in the caverns of Iron Mountain. He hadn't checked to see what was living here on his Pokedex data, so he wasn't too prepared to know what he would find.
