It still hurts like crazy.... Cecil thought, starting to walk up the hill that led to the cliff.

He stretched his arms, the wings on his back shifting around, they ached in anticipation. Cecil really didn't have anything to lose, and if anything he wanted to calm this pent up instinct that's been raging war with his conscience since his wings grew feathers.

They eventually got to the top, and the kid looked down. He raised an eyebrow.

Jasmine seemed to get more and more nervous with each step they took, but seeing the boy's expression, she seemed to loosen a bit. "You scared?" she asked finally, hoping to get an affirmative answer. The waterfall itself seemed to roar at the two's presence, it's rushing water running at a fast current.

Cecil didn't say anything. Second thoughts? Yes. Scared? Sort of. He took a pebble at the the edge of the cliff and tossed it off the cliff. It fell, and it kept falling, and Cecil kept watching until it hit the water below.

He nodded solemnly, but he took a few steps back as if he was getting ready to jump.

The girl's muscles tensed, making sure if she felt if Cecil was going to get hurt, she would jump after him. Jasmine unconciously pushed the hair out of her eyes, watching the boy's moves attentivly.

******** found himself walking to the edge of the cliff and sitting down. He lost his nerve.

He threw out his hands and let out a frustrated squawk, he wasn't happy about this at all.

The bird-girl tensed even more as Cecil began to walk towards the edge of the cliff, but she relaxed when she saw him sit down. Hearing his squawk and watching his movements made the girl a bit sad, though because she knew that he might try again with the same result and feel even worse. Jasmine then slowly walked to the edge and sat beside the boy, giving off a small smile as she looked to the river and the forest beyond it. "You've got to admit..." The girl murmered softly. "For being so batshit crazy, the doc sure did pick a beautiful place to do his crazy experiments." The girl turned her head to Cecil, giving him a smile. "Don'tcha think?"

Cecil nodded solemnly. It really was. Something had to attract all these people here after all. Or at least, make them stay while their genes were being sliced and diced by mad scientists. Even with that fact in mind, people just enjoy the scenery. Adaptation never ceased to amaze him.

He sighed.

The girl smiled, her "feet" kicking against the rock that layed beneath them. Jasmine turned to say something to Cecil, but she felt a small quivering below her- something that she should've paid attention to. "Cecil..." She started to say before the ground crumbled beneath her, and she started to fall beside the waterfall. Jasmine felt her feathers stand up. She opened her mouth to scream, but her heart was racing and her emotions were jumbled into fear- no sound came to her.

((Lawl. sorry, I couldn't resist. XDD))

What the-?

Cecil scrambled to grab Jasmine's arm as she started to fall. He barely snatched her hand. The bird kid held on, she didn't want to do this, so why the heck was she the one falling?

Cecil had a stressed expression on his face, he's never had to pull someone up from a cliff before.

Feeling Cecil's had clapsed on her arm, Jasmine desperatly groped for rock she could stand on, blue eyes dashing between the rocks she stood on, then looked to the boy. Breathing heavily from the shock, she began to slowly and carefully climb the rocks. She reached the top again, slipping her arm from Cecil's grip as she pulled herself up. Jasmine was trembling profusely, sitting down with her weakened arms wrapped around her with her eyes wide- the perfect look for someone who had just been scared out of their wits.

She turned to Cecil, although she did not look up. "Th-th-th...." She muttered through her heavy breathing, "...Th... Thank you..." A searing pain hit her then, and she grabbed one of her webbed feet, wincing. Turning it to the bottom so she could see what had happened, Jasmine saw a steady stream of crimson from the center. "From the rocks?" She mused, taking her still-shaking thumb and cleaning off some of the blood to see a small stone lodged not too deep in her foot. She used her index finger to move around the rock to see if it would move, then instantly grabbing it and yanking the stone out.

Cripes, that was close. Cecil laid down for a moment, gasping for air, the adrenaline was slowly filtering out of his body, his heart was slowing back down to it's calm state.

It was one of those times where he decided that he needed to work out more.

The silent bird did not need to say anything when he practically jumped up and hugged Jasmine. It was his version of "Are you okay?" It's not like he could write anyway, his hands were still shaking. His hold was tight, partly because if he didn't hold on to someone or something, he was just gonna fall. Cecil was still shaking.

Whe the boy wrapped his arms around her, she hung her head low again with her eyes closed. Jasmine soon wrapped her hand around the arm closest to her, rubbing and patting it softly to assure him that she was fine. His grip was tight, comforting to her, reminding the girl of her mother years ago. The warm thought made Jasmine smile, and she rested her head on Cecil's shoulder- she didn't even notice the little pebbles of water that fell from her eyes.

It took a moment for Cecil to have his footing back to normal, but with a little support, he stopped shaking. This was a tad awkward. He released his hold and picked up his notebook.

Heh, I guess we did see if we could fly or not after all.

He began to walk down the cliff, his hand waving to follow.
