A new life Leonard had gone back to his small room, straight to his breifcase, and the flask of whiskey he kept inside. All he wanted to do was forget the beating he'd just taken, and the humiliation he'd suffered. Halfway through the flask a half hour later, he was well on his way to forgetting. His jaw didn't even hurt anymore. He must have passed out, because the next thing he knew, there were horrible sounds of rending metal, anything in the room not secured to the floor, including him, was being tossed around. Somehow, through his drunken haze, he saw his briefcase, and grabbbed it with both hands. There were important things in there. Like his whiskey. Then, there was nothing as his head collided with the wall, and darkness took him. The boat rent apart, and he was throw into the ocean. He would have died, had not a power taken interest in him. Pulled by the currrent, his unconsious body washed up on the shore of an island. His miserable life had been spared, so that new life might begin.

Leonard wakes up one morning feeling particularily sore: his back aches, his arms ache, and even his face aches to some degree, leaving a normally irritable man to be even more so on this day. It starts with a locking up of the joints in his arms, at first a stiffness but over time leading to the inability to move shoulders as they should, elbows locked in place and only able to extend forward and back, somewhat like a raptors arms. The pain truly begins when a solid wall of skin begins to fill the gaps between his fingers, his bones flattening and merging, leaving only spades with thumbs for his hands. The pain in his back doubles, and his body begins to segment into pieces, cracking as his skin develops a hard, pinkish texture. With each pop, it becomes harder to stand as a man normally would, but Leonard will eventually find that by using the pieces as interconnected segments, he can move much more fluidly, and possibly even stand upright in the proper circumstances. Meanwhile, his front is not to be ignored, ab muscles twisting and wriggling as two fleshy appendages poke through his stomach, grasping for leverage as they extend, and with a snap, form a joint, almost like the tiny fingers he'd just lost. Within moments, they too harden, and although they remain the same color as his flesh, they appear to be the texture of his back. His face suffers from a similar change, and from his upper lip two squishy antennae-like limbs push forward, much softer than the ones on his abdomen. He will find that with effort, he can move both sets of appendages, though it is of little importance for the time being. Like the others, his new fins begin to grow in, first with the dissoltion of his toes as the remaining flesh juts forward, turning pink like his back. However, something doesn't seem to be quite right: the arches of his feet flatten, and his soles harden along with the flap of skin that used to be his toes, creating a bony ridge. How is he supposed to walk with these strange feet, much less swim? As a lesser note, during the change, his ears have shrunk to little more than holes, the polar opposite of most of the others. What could this mean for him?
