I prefer the DS because I'm an adventure gamer (of Myst fame, no doubt) and there are several very good titles for the DS. Having a touch screen is quite handy when it comes to games like that.
That, and the DS was about $100US cheaper when I got mine.

Restated: What is the relation, if any, to the sexes and their handhelds? Why is the DS seen as a 'girlier' system?

I think it depends on which version of the DS. I have an old one and my cousin says it looks flimsy. He just likes the design of the PSP better.

I don't know where you got that information from, I'm guessing Wikipedia, but its not girly (It that even proper English, learn grammar). Until you can state why you think its "girly" it'll be easier for us to pinpoint what your talking about, its like asking us do you think the ocean is warm? Well where and what time of year. If you mean by game selection, well thats out. Most of the games now are gender neutral (because everyone is afraid of hurting someones feelings, grow up), if you mean by the colors then thats out because theres black, platinum, pink and some other colors. If you mean by how it looks, then thats out it looks nothing like something you'd see in a girl's purse or possibly something a girl is ogling at in a shop. It'd be a lot easier if you could state why you think its "girly" then we could proceed to say how it is or isn't. Until then I could go on for hours how it is and isn't "girly". If you'd be so kind to reiterate what you mean I'd be happy to answer you question and discuss it. Second you might want to change what your asking, because the way to worded it, you sound like some female feminist extremist. Your accusing a sex of something, thats a no, no. Personally, so who ever told you this is a Bumsen tard, so really you should have shaken it off and said " Ich gebe nicht ein Bumsen" This thread seems more like a way to bash men for someones stupid opinion than our views. Of course thats how I interrupted your post.

'Girly' is colloquial english.
And if I 'have to learn grammar,' you have to 'learn grammar' and spelling, too.

And when was the last time you made inventory of the contents of a girl's purse?
Know that not every girl 'ogles' something like shoes, purses or whatever.
I personally usually have my DS in my purse always, and I know a fair few other girls who keep their handhelds in their purses as well.

I fail to see how I sounded like a feminazi.
I was, actually, asking for opinions, explanations and insight regarding the relationship, if there even is one, between the sexes and DS/PSP.
If you think thats me sounding like an extreme feminist, maybe you're the one whos being an extremist.

Well, I have a DS but I am getting a PSP for my birthday. I think that the psp is marketed towards males more than girls in the US at least. I went to target and some other stores that had PSPs and noticed that the movie and game selections were very male oriented (or at least what whoever markets thinks is male oriented). Like sports games, shooters, etc. which I mean I play too, but no RPGs, Adverture or any other kind of game diversity. As far as the DS goes, I know a lot of hardcore playstation people think of it as "kiddie" so anything not associated with "Manly" is kiddie or girlie. This is just one opinion but I guess my main point is MARKETING! I think it makes the difference.

Well. I'm a girl and I prefer the PSP over DS. I don't think DS is a "girl system". Many boys have DS too.

i love my DS lite to death it is so cool i thinki love it becuz it actually comes in girl colors and i get a chance to prove to my brother that im better than him plus the touch screen is awesome

It's nintendo that have caused that I think. They aim their games at younger people and girls...the games are all cutesy things..like the Dogz games and Mario etc...they aren't shoot em up or things with alot of violence. I'm not saying all girls like these types of games, because I for one dislike Nintendo games..but nintendo do aim their games at kids and girls.

i think guys prefer the PSP more then the DS because it offer more violent shooting games then the DS. the reason i think girls like the DS more is because it has lest violent games and more adventurous and cute characters. ex: nintendogs.

I don't really like either. The PSP doesn't have any games I like on it, and I absolutely hate the DS's touch screen feature. Sure it looks cool in the concept, but I find it rather cumbersome to look at 2 screens at once. I usually only get a console if it has games I like on it.

Maybe the sterotyping is coming from the new pink DS?
And I agree, the DS has games for both genders, while the PSP is mostly violence after voilence. I have both, PSP and DS, though. I can never find too many mellow games for PSP, which is why my DS game pile is higher than my PSP's.
So, in conclusion, DS is cute, touchable, pink, and has games boys AND girls can enjoy.
