Wahabu looked out to the other side of the water, and found that his vision was obscured by the fur from his growing mane. He shook his head, but the fur didn't move a great deal. Luckily, he could see a good deal- and the path they were racing on was simple enough.

When she asked about catching his breath, at first he shook his head but then he looked away and stayed still, except for the necessary kicks, to catch his breath. It didn't take more than a couple breaths to get ready.

"Ok, I'm really ready," he announced, carefully turning himself around to face the direction they would be swimming in. So far, this wasn't as bad as tree climbing- nothing was hurting yet.

"Well off you go, I will let you swim between a quatar and half the way to the otherside before I start!" She believed that was fair as he seemed new to all of this.

She happily kicked her legs underneath her to keep her afloat watching the water ripples that she created. So beautiful. She was eager to get going but he needed a head start, in her opinion anyway.

Habu nodded, more than willing to let himself be given a headstart by an expert swimmer- or, at lest one with more experience than he had. If she thought it was fair, and he agreed, then it was alright. It was the polite thing to do, he supposed. Maybe this way he wouldn't lose too badly.

"Ok," he answered, and looked off the other side of the water. His goal in view, he swam off with a splash from the initiation of movement. It was obvious he did not swim a lot, and what he did do was mostly instinct- but it got him going.

She held back a giggle as he started swimming she did think about calling the race off and then teach him how to swim but she thought that might upset him so she waited untill he was about half way between a quater and half way to the other side.

She started swimming happily as she had been doing so since she was a cub. She moved gently and calmly, not really rushing so that she could give him a little bit more of a headstart, once she got to the other side she would then give him a good race back, yes that is what she would do, then she would believe it to be fair.

Slowly, Habu's awkward doggy paddle became a little less awkward as he got used to the water and the motion that got him moving comfortably. Mchengo was off to a good start before any of the male's improvements even started to show, and he couldn't help but glance back to see how fast she was going.

Of course, this slowed him down, and he noticed that she didn't seem to be going really, really fast. Either he was better than he thought, or she was starting slow. Whichever it turned out to be, he would determine at the end of the race. He turned back and kept going, aiming for the other side and not looking back again.

She continued at her leisurely pace not really paying much attention to the fact that they were racing and it didn't take long for him to get the hang of swimming which made her want to swim faster but not yet.

She could see the other end and her body wanted to swim faster but she held back, she was nearly there, it wouldn't be too long now, just a little further and then she can swim as fast as she wants.

Habu managed to reach the other side of the water first, not surprisingly considering he was putting effort into it and she was not, and he'd had a good headstart (that was still going). When he reached the other side, he paused for a second to take a deep breath before turning to start his way back.

As she saw him reach the other side she smiled and swam a little faster, passing him on his way back she couldn't resist splashing him a little.

She reached the other side and took a breather before heading back, she didn't hang back this time, she swam as she loved to. Making her legs move as fast as possible, she was doing what she loved!

Not forseeing the playful assault, the splash was successful and drove him momentarily into a diagonal path instead of going the same, initial straight path.

Habu wasn't very far in the other direction when he could hear a change in the way his opponent was swimming. So now the race was on! Gritting his teeth, the lion made an effort to move faster, but it wasn't an easy transition for him.

Mchengo let out a small laugh as she started swimming faster, it didn't take her long to catch up the male but she suddenly felt really bad about beating him so decided they would get to the other side at the same time.

She slowed her pace a little to keep beside the male, making it look as if she was trying alot harder then she was. After all she didn't want him to be annoyed with her not winning and she didn't want to feel bad about winning so this would work perfectly. Keeping the same pace!

The laugh made Wahabu try harder, but it really didn't make him go any farther any faster. When she caught up easily, and suddenly seemed to struggle he became a little suspicious. After all- he was expecting something like that to happen. Being let to win, or making it closer than it might have been as this case seemed to be. Glancing over at Mchengo, he slowed down a bit and feined effort in a similar fashion she did- just to see what would happen. Unforunately, he was getting tired and as he slowed down the slower he wanted to get, or just get out.

Mchengo saw what he did so did something she had only done a few times before.

She ducked under the water and after a little struggle she managed to get under the water and underneath Wahabu before swimming back up hoping to push him over a little. She wasn't bothered about racing anymore.

Mchengo was not the only one not worried about the race anymore, for once she ducked under the water Wahabu stopped swimming and tried to watch where she went. When she got deep enough to be beneath him, however, he lost sight of her and simply floated in the water, looking from side to side. He was expecting something to happen, or at least to have her resurface- and it came in the form of a shove.

It wasn't hard enough to make him go too far away from his initial location, but it was enough to get him to splash over in the water- his drying mane getting a fresh doucing of water and the whole situation drawing a gasping laugh from him.

"Hey!"

She just floated in the water laughing.

"Thats what you get for being sloooooooooow!" She continued to laugh and splashed at him a little more with her paws, throwing little water droplets all over the place.

"You aren't drying yourself off that quickly mister!" She still hadn't stopped laughing. She found all of this completely hilarious!

Oh no, Habu had told himself he had to fight back when assaulted- of course, this situation wasn't quite what he meant. However, the principle applied, and so he splashed back at her. He didn't keep himself quite as level as she was, but managed to make a bigger splash.

"That's what you get for not trying your beeeest," he countered, sticking out his tongue at her.
