Velvet RP:
Rio, Naraka, and Kesin

Quote:
Rio strolled down the sidewalk with his hands in his pockets, enjoying the cloudy but pleasant early evening. His glass-like wings were tucked carefully behind him, hiding somewhat a few broken pinions. They would grow back, but in the meantime he thought it looked a little on the shoddy and unkempt side, which he wasn't personally fond of, so he was doing his best to, well...look his best, really.

You're the one who was rolling around the floor,
chimed a female voice inside his head. Alex. You can't tell me you didn't know it would happen.

It was worth it, he thought back simply, before pulling open the door to the little toyshop.

Quote:
It is a rare thing for Naraka to be lurking around the main part of the store, and yet, that's where he's found himself today. The street is too bright, the basement too dark. His only option is to find some window to lurk in like a frumpy old cat until it's dark enough to go outside.

And he's not alone. Kesin has either forgiven him for leaving him in Guatemala, or he's just decided being angry isn't worth it, because he's started talking to him again instead of just shouting swearwords in various languages. Colorful language is exciting, perhaps, when you are spectating, but gets to be rather boring when it's constantly directed at you. Kesin's change of heart doesn't hurt Naraka's feelings at all.

To the door opening, the big black and white bird rises from his perch on the couch with a whistle and a cough. "AHHH AHHH! CUSTOMER!" He shouts at anyone who will listen.

Quote:
Rio started a little at the shout, and took a bewildered moment to locate the course. Why, it was a bird! A magpie, it looked like. Perhaps a Velvet? "Oh, goodness!" he said, hand resting lightly over his heart. "Hello there, little bird."

Not always the most perceptive individual, he was so sufficiently distracted by the bird that the man in the window escaped his notice for the moment.

Quote:
Naraka looks over with something of a frown. Freaks he knows, he'd expected. New freaks hadn't really entered into his equation.

Kesin comes edging his way over the end of the couch and gives the new fellow the old eye. Sizing him up, of course, to see whether he might be of any use. "Hello, hello, hello. Hello, fine sir. Welcome, welcome."

Quote:
"What a polite little fellow!" Rio exclaimed, terribly taken by the thought of a talking bird. It was just so delightful. "And very well-spoken, too. What's your name, hmm? I'm Rio. I don't suppose you're a Velvet, are you?"

But alone! That seemed curious. So he cast a look around the shop to be sure, and spotted the stranger at last. "Oh," he says, sounding apologetic, "Good evening! I'm afraid I didn't see you there."

Quote:
"Don't trust ," Naraka grunts, glancing his way and then looking back to the street. "He just wants to see what you've got to eat."

"Lies, lies!!" Kesin laments. "Oh, how he lies! Bad, nasty vampire. Oh oh! He hurts Kesin so!!!!" Kes flirts his wings and does his very best impression of despondency. "Rio Rio. I flew over Rio. A smelly little dike! Fah fah. A velvet, crah... I'm not stuffed beast!"

"He IS a velvet," Naraka says, snorting. "He just doesn't like to think he is."

Quote:
Ah, so he's the sort that's always hungry?" Well! Taken in so quickly! He couldn't help it, though. He was a pushover for anything cute. "I'm sorry, Kesin, but I don't really have anything to give you." Unless birds ate hard candy, which he doubted. "But you've flown over Rio, you say? You must be well-traveled!"

Being a talkative sort, he was perfectly delighted to converse with the chatty bird. But what was that about vampires? Rio turned back to the man, the picture of cheerful curiosity. "You're a vampire?"

Quote:
Naraka doesn't like this fellow's chatty nature or his cheerful disposition. He was all set to be dour and brooding and generally an unpleasant person for the afternoon. "Always. Don't bother feeding him."

"Tcha!" Kesin exclaims. "O, he has little faith. So little faith! I will speak to you even if you feed me not! See how good I am!" Kesin turns back, cocking a bright blue eye, evidently pleased with himself despite Naraka snickering at him from the corner. "All over," Kesin replies, puffing up his white chest with pride. "All over! All from below the gulf and up and up!!!"

Naraka tries to put on a look of indifference rather than the scowl he feels he'd been wearing and answers shortly, "A vampire. yes."

Quote:
"Very good," Rio assured Kesin, holding his hand out to the bird. If he was so fond of food, he might be just as fond of petting, but he didn't want to get himself nipped for trying without permission. "From the gulf, hmm? Do you like warm places?"

A vampire, Alex! Rio thought to his host, whose only reply was a short
No, really? . Rather than put-off or suspicious, he seemed delighted - and also rather oblivious to the fact that he was on his way to making himself an annoyance. "Really!" he said, hands clasped together. "How old are you? But oh! I'm afraid I haven't caught your name."

Quote:
Kesin peers over his fingers, and then down under his palm a little superciliously. Evidently, he really has nothing. A disappointment, but he accepts any sort of attention. "Nah nah! Stupid vampire left me there! Left me in the sun and the stink and made me fly all the way, all the way back!"

Naraka watches him cooly, choosing to ignore Kesin's accusations. There is a long pause, and then he says abruptly, "How are we to know? After so many years, we begin to forget to put tallies on the wall. Almost two thousand years. I'm hardly sure anymore." And then, more quietly, "My name is Naraka."

Quote:
"Left you?" Evidently having passed inspection, he gave the bird a gentle scratch. "Now why would he do that?" He was a tad skeptical after the warning not to trust the bird, but that didnt mean he wasn't worth chatting with.

"Two thousand!" Rio was openly surprised - he'd been expecting something more along the lines of a few centuries, perhaps. "Oh my! That's certainly impressive, Naraka. I hadn't realized any of you made it so long."

Quote:
"Ya ya. He is a bad man." Kesin leans into the man's tickling fingers and closes his eyes, enjoying himself thuroughly. "'E's a silly beast. Thinks all the time of women."

Naraka snorts and looks like he's ready to throw a stuffed animal at the offending creature. "What a thing to say! Hmph. Made it! Well it hasn't exactly been a nonstop obstical course!! Staying alive seems to be the easy part."

Quote:
A bad man and a silly beast! Rio quirked a bit of a smile and continued his tickling, seeing as it was going over so well. "Well! Women are always well worth thinking about."

"Is it? It's been a very long time since I've met any vampires, except for one who was very young." Was? Is? It was very hard to decide which to use, since Alex was still around, but no longer a vampire. "If I ever met one quite so old before, I'm afraid I've quite forgotten."

Quote:
"TTTSSSSSS" Kesin hisses in response, like a balloon deflating slowly. He'd never given them much consideration, though he knows that women are more likely to give him food. "Why is this?"

Naraka looks over at Kesin, brooding for a moment. "Perhaps there aren't many of us left. It seems to be a.... a problem," he says with an abrupt laugh and a feral smile. It is sardonic, to say, perhaps, that it is not a problem in the least. "I do not socialize with them, though. When I meet another vampire, it is generally by accident. And I tend not to speak with them very long. My people can be.... a little pragmatic for my tastes." He frowns a little.

Quote:
Uh-oh, what a question! What he got for talking to a bird about women, he supposed. "Well," he said slowly, "They're beautiful, for starters. And all wonderful in one way or another."

"Fewer of you than before? I'd've thought there might be more nowadays, if anything. Though I certainly haven't gone looking." Rio considered Naraka for a moment. "I don't suppose you've ever met a fellow named Hart?" he asked idly.

Quote:
"Nah nah," Kesin says with absolute certainty. "Many ugly women. There are many. And horrible ones. They throw crocks and kitchen pots at me!"

"No," Naraka grumbles, uncomfortable at the thought of hanging around with random vampires and hardly amused at Kesin's negativity. "I don't know. I don't keep an eye on the population tallies, though I know someone who does. The older families are dying out. One would guess there would be more. But I suppose we are somewhat phlegmatic as a species."

Quote:
"Oh, come now! There are no ugly women, not really. As for horrible, well, perhaps you caught them on a bad day? Or did they catch you up to something, hmm?" Rio lifted an eyebrow.

He was only a little disappointed by the answer - it had been a terribly long shot, but still worth asking. "The older ones? Well, maybe there will be new ones? I confess, I'm not overly familiar with your kind. Just an individual here and there."

Quote:
"There are," Kesin replies stoutly, "hideous ones with warts and boils! Kia!!! They are suspicious and nasty! I only ate one tortilla!"

At that, Naraka has to chuckle a little bit. "Yeah, I'm very sure. Well... The age of the vampire is over, or so I hear. The noble vampires. Now we just stalk the filthy urban streets like rats. Like any other sort of vermin." He laughs a little. "The dark ages are over. I said we are phlegmatic. So it's true. And archaic. Families aren't important anymore. The younger vampires inherit the wind."

Quote:
"You must not have looked close enough if that's all you saw," he chided good-naturedly, tapping the bird's beak. "Just one, huh? I take it you didn't ask first."

"There aren't many humans of the noble-blooded sort left either," he pointed out, "So maybe it's true that family in that sense hasn't held up. People these days are so wildly independent and freed that I suppose they don't care much to be subjected to strictures."

Quote:
"That was all that was there," Kesin hisses, clacking his beak. He fluffs his feathers with petty rage and gives the plushes on the further wall a stern look. "She left them out. She was so fat! She didn't need any, herself! Fah!"

Naraka remains quiet for a while, looking dour. "That's fine with me. I couldn't care less."

Quote:
Hah! From polite and welcoming to angry and insulting. Not to be trusted indeed! "Maybe someone else needed them," he ventured.

Rio frowned a little. "How unfortunate, not caring for any of your kind at all. Not even the young ones?"

Quote:
Kesin struts angrily back and forth along the cushions, thinking of the horrible woman who threw things at him, among others. She was particularly awful, though, as she had managed to wing him. "She would have cooked me up! But Kesin is too clever for fat, ugly old women! HA!"

Naraka looks at him with a tired, unamused expression. "Why should I? I have no children. I never had a vampiric family. I keep friends. Two of them happen to be vampires. That's all there is."

Quote:
"Cooked you up, hmm? I don't think I've ever heard of anyone eating magpies." He shook his head. "I don't doubt getting away is easy, since you have wings and most old women don't."

"It just seems a shame, I suppose. Not your case necessarily, but in general. That there's no one to take care of the younger ones." Whatever they were, Rio lumped everyone together under 'people,' and so didn't have much of a notion of disliking this brand or that. It didn't really occur to him.

Quote:
"This old woman had evil." Kesin flies over to Naraka and lands roughly on his shoulder. He picks at the poor fellow's hair for a moment with idle roughness and then turns around, flipping his tail into his face. "Ha! But Naraka is not rid of me so easily!"

"O Kesin... you stop that. Nobody cares." Naraka waves a hand and sighs. "Someone might," he says with extreme indifference. "Even a vampire child died without some kind of nurturing. There are very few born vampires, though. Most of them are made, and the rules are very simple. Don't go into the sun. Drink blood. Any fool could figure it out."

Quote:
What a bizarre bird! A character for sure, and good for idle conversation, but Rio wasn't terribly sure he'd be able to put up with his sort day in and day out.

"Figure it out maybe, but deal with it? The instincts and such. It's a terrible sort of difference, knowing and...coping." His host was now distinctly uncomfortable, and making him feel it. She was practically being talked about. Seeking to thwart her displeasure, he switched rather abruptly. "Oh, well, here I go, prattling on about things I needn't prattle about. My apologies."

Quote:
Kesin continues to bother Naraka until the snarky vampire has had enough and shoos him away. Kesin takes to stalking the window, looking outside.

"Dealing with it is their own problem. A personal one. Who's responsible for that but themselves?" Naraka's mood visibly darkens as he ponders his own past. "Hmph. Well.... alright, then. I suppose I don't mind."

Quote:
With Kesin taking to stalking the windowsill and Naraka looking quite dark, Rio figured - with his host's grumbled help - that it really probably was high time to leave the subject alone for now. He was, after all, not a vampire himself, and she'd been a very young one. "Well, I guess I'll leave you to yourself," he said after a moment, with a little bending at the waist. "We'll likely meet again sometime."

Quote:
"Mmm. I am afaid I was never a very good host. goodbye, then. " Naraka feels irritable with himself for being, as usual, fairly antisocial. But there's not much that he can do about that.

"Kia," Kesin says, hopping back to the sill. "You go eh? Look out for mean women, eh? Ha ha ha ha ha."

Quote:
"Oh, nonsense!" he insisted before smiling at Kesin. The only mean woman he had to worry about was the girl in his head, but thankfully she was only mean some of the time instead of regularly. Right now, however, she was rather cross. "Goodbye, you two." With a tip of his head, he was out the door.

Quote:
Naraka waves blandly and lets the fellow be. Kesin merely clucks after him in his short, coughing sort of laugh.

Velvet RP:
Rio, Kai, and Pipit

Meepfur
It was a singularly odd experience when the person you shared your mind with had a song stuck in their head. Your head. Well, something like that. At any rate, it was very strange, and as fond as Rio was of Alex, it was also very distracting. It had him humming along at intervals and put a bit of a dance in his step. Thank goodness there was no one else was around, because trying to concentrate enough to talk with this sort of background noise would have been terrible!

"Alex, do you mind?" he murmurred, fiddling with the key in his pocket. "You're going to have me singing at this rate, and given the hour, it'll make me seem intoxicated."

Aww, alright. I'll try, his host promised offhandedly. Hey, I bet you're awesome drunk.

Maybe you'll find out sometime. With a faint smile and a shake of his head, he opened the door of the odd little toy shop.

FallenMercury
Letting out a sigh, Kai ran her hand over Pipit's head, idly scratching behind her ear. The two were sitting in an overstuffed lounge chair, relaxing in the shop that had become so much like home.

Pip's tail thumped rhythmically against her guardian's thigh. Her ears perked as she heard someone approach the outside of the door, and as the knob turned, her hackles raised nervously. She pressed her cheek against Kai's collarbone, watching hesitantly as Rio entered.

Meepfur
Rio's odd, glass-like wings lifted at the sight of someone else in the shop, and thumbs in his pockets, he beamed cheerfully. "Hello there!"

My, but the woman was certainly a sight, wasn't she? He'd never seen anyone quite like her! Clearly a person, but also very much canine. Very intriguing, and beautiful for it.

Just weird, if you ask me, Alex grumbled.

Oh, as if you have any room to talk! You're the one so taken with a werewolf.

"I'm Rio," he offered once Alex quieted, crossing the room and extending his hand, "Might I have the pleasure of knowing your name? And yours too, of course," he added, addressing the small creature gently.

FallenMercury
Kai's blue eyes were immediately drawn to his wings, pink and almost like crystal. How intriguing! "Hi," she said, offering a bright grin as she took his hand. "Nice to meet you, Rio... my name is Kai, and this is Pipit, Pip for short."

The little coyote drew back as the stranger approached, though she seemed to relax slightly when Kai shook his hand, as though it confirmed he wasn't a threat. Leaning forward, she tentatively sniffed at his hand, though her eyes never left his own.

Meepfur
"Wonderful to meet you, Kai. I was so hoping someone would be here." He mirrored her grin, positively loving it when other people smiled. It was very contagious.

"Hello, Pipit," Rio said, curling his fingers against his palm and letting her sniff his hand. "Is...he or she a Velvet, then?"

FallenMercury
She hesitated but seemed to decide that he was okay, giving his knuckles a tiny, friendly n** before curling up on Kai's lap again.

"Yep!" Kai said happily. "She just changed yesterday, and I'm already having more fun than I ever had. Pip's pretty shy around strangers, as you can tell, but she's really rather sweet once she gets to know you." Her fingers found their way to the coyote's ears again and Pip growled happily, arching her neck to allow her easier access.

"Do you have a velvet?" she asked curiously.

Meepfur
Rio beamed again, delighted by Pipit's acceptance of him. He was a very openly expressive individual, and his cheer was obvious. "She has a beautiful look about her, with those lovely stars."

Good god, you even flatter dogs. Weirdo. The grumpiness was teasingly exaggerated.

"No, but it seems I will," he answered, drawing the key he'd been given from his pocket so that Kai could see. "I must admit, the curiosity has been driving me to distraction! And the anticipation, too. It's so exciting."

FallenMercury
"Ohh, a key!" she said excitedly, smiling up at Rio. "Exciting indeed! I hope you don't mind me asking, but it has, admittedly, been a long time since I received Pip... how long will it be until you get your velvet?"

Pip's eyes brightened as he brought out the key and her entire body wiggled, making it look like she was dancing. She seemed to recognize the shape, making the connection that it was related to those of her origin.

Meepfur
"I don't know," he admitted, mouth falling in just a touch of a frown as he thought. "I guess it'll just be a surprise! I don't mind waiting, really, but the suspense! What could it possibly be?"

"Oh, do you like keys? Here, then.." Chuckling at her wiggly antics, he held the key closer so Pip could have a better a look, and perhaps a sniff.

FallenMercury
"Ohhh, double suspense," Kai said with a laugh.

With a rather pup-like yip, Pip leapt forward and instead of sniffing, snatched the key out of Rio's hand. As soon as she had it, she hopped back into Kai's lap and held it between her paws, licking it contentedly.

Meepfur
"Oh, goodness!" Reflexively, Rio drew his hand back, but too late to keep hold of the key. He hadn't expected that! Surprise aside, though, he didn't mind - it didn't seem to be in any sort of danger, just under assault by affection. "Well, as long as you promise to take care of it," he chuckled.

FallenMercury
"Pip!" she squeaked. Her first instinct was to reach out and take the key away, but a sudden feeling of warmth and contentment made her pause. What was that? she wondered. Pip looked up at her with bright eyes and the sensation swept over her again.

Then, realization hit. "Oh! Is that... you, Pip? You like that key, huh?" Pip's tail wagged excitedly.

"Well, that's a first," Kai said warmly, looking up at Rio. "I just felt her emotions. C'mon, Pip, let Rio have his key back, hmm? Look, you can play with this one." She dug into her pocket and pulled out the key to her apartment, placing it in Pip's paws as she took away the toychest key. Kai quickly dried it off on the bottom of her shirt before offering it to Rio.

Pip let out a soft grunt. It wasn't the same! But... she supposed it was better than nothing, so she started lavishing love upon the apartment key.

Meepfur
"Oh, really?" he breathed, "You can do that? Or is it that she can do it?" Fascinating!

"Thank you." Rio smiled, accepting the freshly-cleaned key and sliding it back into his pocket. "She is so cute. I don't suppose she's allowed to have candy?" He doubted it, but there was no harm in asking.

FallenMercury
"I'm not sure, to be honest... I'm still trying to learn about velvets and what all they can do. It sure would be convenient if she can sense what I'm feeling, too!"

Chuckling, she nodded. "Candy? I suppose a little bit wouldn't hurt her, as long as it isn't chocolate."

Meepfur
"That would be! Amazing, really." What would whatever his turned out to be be able to do? It gave him even more to wonder about and look forward to. Oh, he hoped he'd have his Velvet soon! It would put an end to some of the suspense, at least.

"Wonderful." Rio grinned, pleased, before doing something very peculiar indeed. He curved one of his wings around and snapped a small piece from one of the strange pinions. "It grows back," he explained absently, aware of how weird it was to just go breaking off a piece of oneself, before holding out the pinkish piece of candy to Pipit.

"Oh! Would you like some too?" he asked Kai. It was only polite to offer!

FallenMercury
Pip's opinion of this strange winged man was growing better and better with everything he did. She took the piece of candy in her teeth, extra careful not to n** his finger in the process, before gulping it down enthusiastically. Her lips spread in a doggish grin as she looked hopefully at Rio with wide eyes.

"That's nice of you to offer," Kai said with a smile, "but I have to be honest and say it'd be kind of weird to eat a piece of a friend's wing. No offense, of course. But thank you! Oh, looks like Pip likes it." She chuckled.

Meepfur
"They are very good," he said, smiling at Pipit, "Raspberry-flavored. I don't have to break them, really. You could have a lick instead, if it's the breaking that bothers you." A friend! Rio's wings fluttered happily at the thought, the sound of it a sort of creaking.

...you just invited someone you just met to lick you.

You have no room to talk. He snorted, trying to cover it with a cough when he realized he'd done so aloud. Oops.

Good one! Alex giggled.

FallenMercury
Kai thought about it for another moment, looking at the wings as if to confirm it wasn't a problem to break them. "Well... I'll try a tiny piece, I guess," she said finally. Raspberry candy sure did sound good..

Pip let out a low, pathetic whine, lifting a paw to bat at Rio's hand.

Meepfur
Grinning widely, Rio broke another small piece from one of his pinions, this time handing it to Kai. As Pip begged for another piece, he chuckled, patting her carefully on the head. "If Kai says it's alright for you to have another. I'd feel dreadful if I fed you too much and made you sick!"

FallenMercury
Kai took the chunk of candy, popping it into her mouth. "Mm," she murmured. "I never know a body part could taste so good." She grinned at Rio, winking. "Thank you."

"No more candy for you, Pip," she said, pulling the coyote up onto her lap. "I don't think sweets are very good for you. Maybe Rio could give you another treat? Something that's a little better for you." Kai reached down, picking her bookbag up off the ground, and rummaged through, finally pulling out a bag of beef jerky. "Still not... healthy, per se, but a little better." She offered it to Rio.

Meepfur
"Well, clearly you haven't been tasting the right people," Rio suggested, winking right back.

"Much better, probably." He accepted the jerky, taering off a small piece and holding it out for Pipit. "A little closer to what she's meant to eat, at least."

FallenMercury
She grinned at him. "That may very well be true."

Pip's eyes moved back to Rio's wings, but when it became apparent she wouldn't get any more candy, she accepted the jerky, flopping onto her belly to eat it.

Kai blinked, saying suddenly, "Oh, Rio, would you like to sit? I've been sitting here this whole time and haven't even offered you the chair." She stood up and motioned to it, tilting her head.

Rio bustled into his room at the Pantheon, bright little plush tucked securely under his arm. He was so excited, he didn't think he'd stopped smiling yet since opening the chest. A little lovebird! It was just so delightful! He wanted terribly to take the plush visiting, maybe drop by and see Calico, the Goddess of Insanity. They'd have so much fun, he was sure the lovebird would like her! And that she'd like him, too. A stuffed animal that would someday come alive seemed right up her alley. Or maybe Iris - Plague's host, not the Iris of the Velveteen Toychest - would come back soon. She'd probably love it, too.

His mind was buzzing with such happy thoughts and plans as he walked across the room's grassy floor to sit by a the good-sized bathing pool in the middle. The room itself - a gift from the Hunt - was carpeted in real, growing grass, with trees for walls on three sides. Most of the furniture appeared to be part of the trees, from whose branches were hung a type of red orchid. Off to one side a bed of snapdragons and to the left was an open door to another room, a smaller version of the main one.

"Well, here we are!" he announced to the plush on his lap, "Home. What do you think? Isn't it lovely? Eamnonn - he's the God of the Hunt - gave this to Alex, to us, when he left. He has his very own temple now, you know? Maybe we'll go visit sometime, hmm? It's been quite awhile since Alex saw Ea, and she always loves to see Orin." Rio chuckled a little, quite happy to chatter on and on about most anything to most anyone.

Hey, Alex protested inside his mind, voice fond in its chiding.

"What? It's true!"

Well, you don't have to tell everyone.

"Oh come on, it's just...oh, dear. It needs a name, doesn't it?" The god picked the plush up, considering it carefully.

Umm...how do you name an it? his host asked. I mean, what if you name it, like, Joe, and it turns out to be a girl?

"Well, that can be a girl's name too. Jo, you know," he answered matter-of-factly. "Oh, well that's it then! We'll just have to name it something that works either way. What do you think?"

Joe? she put in cheerfully.

"No, no, it should be something...something lovely! With a ring to it. Don't you think?" He gave the lovebird plush a little kiss on the beak.

Name it yourself, Alex said after a moment of thought, I don't really have any ideas.

"Very helpful of you," Rio teased. "Well, how about...how about Nanda?" he suggested after a few minutes of thought."

Nanda? Man, I hope it's a girl, 'cause that sounds really girly for a guy.

"Oh, I don't think so. I think it's a wonderful name!"

Whatever you want, man.

"Nanda it is, then." Rio beamed, giving the plush another kiss. "Welcome home, Nanda!"

RP - Meeting Penny!

Nanda has very little to do with this RP, but he is present for it, so I'm going ahead and putting it here.

Rio relaxed in his warm bath, giving his muscles a good soak. Even though they hadn't been doing anything much besides taking care of all the plants, it always felt so good. Within him, Alex was drowsing - after the time she'd spent in control of their shared body, she needed some rest.

Nanda sat near the edge of the bathing pool, just a little damp in places. The lovebird plush had gotten touches of dirt while Alex did her gardening, so it had needed a bit of a wash. Since they'd been informed that the stuffed animal was somehow alive, Rio thought it best that they talk to it and show it things, so his host had obliged him and talked about the garden while she worked. She'd talked about the grass, the snapdragons, the trees, the orchids, and how to take care of everything. Thoguh she'd felt silly at first, she'd quickly warmed to it. It felt good to pass on what Orin had taught her.

She'd even talked about the wolfman a little, told Nanda about the Hunt's gardener, her furry friend and lover who was stuck somewhere between wolf and man. Not that Alex would have him any other way! Orin and his partial furriness had quite grown on her, actually, and she told the plush as much. It meant he was very soft and cuddly, after all!

It had also led to talking about Ea, and she confessed to Nanda that when she'd first met the Hunt, she'd wondered if the green-skinned god, well...tasted green. She never had found out for sure, but he'd assured her that his blood was ordinary enough, red just like anyone else's. Still, thoughts of Eamnonn sometimes led to thoughts of broccoli.

Alex had also giggled about Eben, who was another of Ea's servants. He was such a prude, and she loved to make him uncomfortable, from innuendo and inappropriate suggestions to deliberately keeping him awake with Orin's...help. Such stunts filled Alex with wicked delight!

Ultimately, Alex had spent nearly two hours gardening and talking to the lovebird plush, and had found much to her surprise that she actually enjoyed it. Maybe Nanda had too?

Rio was sure it had. As he floated, musing over this and that, Dinah - their young feline friend - toddled closer to get a better look at the stuffed animal. She tapped her nose along Nanda's plush surface, having a good sniff. It smelled quite a bit like Rio, but distinctly less...something. Her investigation only beginning, she batted gently at it with one paw, claws sheathed. The plush rocked, then fell to its side when Di gave it another bap.

Startled by the toy's sudden upending, Dinah scuttled back a little, peering at it from afar and waiting for it to get back up. When that didn't happen, she crept back over to it, curling up beside it. It did feel rather nice.

When he returned from the little toy shop this time, Rio was more than just happy; he was determined. He had a purpose. He was going to teach the Velvets about love, since apparently none of their caretakers intended to do so themselves. And besides, who better to teach about love than Love?

Willow, the beautiful little tiger Velvet, had mentioned having someone play matchmaker, but from the way she spoke, they weren't ready for that yet. First they needed a teacher, someone to assuage their fears and show them that love was nothing to be afraid of or grossed out by, but something wonderful! The most beautiful thing in the world, in fact.

It didn't matter to Desiderio that they were small - tiny, even - because size (or anatomical correctness, for that matter) didn't have anything to with whether or not they were people, or whether or not they could love and be loved. He was going to show them that it was okay. He was going to teach them how.

Maybe it wouldn't be the grandest or most illustrious of starts, taking this handful of small creatures under his wing, but it was a start, it was something, and Love could grow from even the tiniest spark.

RP with Iris/Shkhin

Nanda has very little to do with this RP, but he is present for it, so I'm going ahead and putting it here.

[Preceded by this, which takes place away from Nanda.]

No way, Alex said, still disbelieving almost twenty minutes later. C'mon, I was just joking! You aren't- we aren't...no. Just...no.

"It makes sense," Rio persisted, pacing across the grassy floor of their room. "I mean, think about it! You saw Orin a few months ago, after all...and we have been putting on some weight. We've both noticed."

Yeah, but...but you know how I like to eat junk food. You even make fun of me about it!

"Yes, and you've been eating even more of it lately." The god sighed, rubbing his forehead. "Alex, we're pregnant. You know it and I know it, there's no use in denying it."

His host fell quiet for a bit, then offered, Sorry.

"Sorry? For what? It's not a bad thing! Not really," he tried to assure her. "It's just going to be...strange, you know?"

Tell me about it, she agreed. Alex didn't even like kids! But...at the same time..... Except you're the one who has to get weird looks, she teased to cover up her more serious musings. Especially a few months from now!

"I wouldn't count on it." Rio flopped on the bed, finding his stuffed animal in the tangle of sheets and giving Nanda a little snuggle.

...what?

"I'm a god, Alex. Orin is a werewolf. You were a vampire. I'm just saying that it might be a mistake to expect much about this to be very normal." It was already far from normal!

Oh. Right. We have to tell Orin.

"You have to tell Orin," he corrected.

Yeah, yeah, whatever. Alright then, let's do this.

"Now?" Rio blinked. It was the middle of the night! He was tired!

Yes, now. We're going. Get up! You walk there, then I'll do the talking. Brave words, for someone who really had no idea what she was doing...much less what she was going to say.

[And, though once more it doesn't involve Nanda...for continuity's sake, stuff goes on from here.]

[Note: I have yet to write out the posts, but from here on, Alex and Rio are one and the same - no longer two personalities/people/souls, but one.]
