well, my 2 cents. (I'm not using the red and black sorry)
Evangelion and Eureka Seven are simular...
for the first half of the series, but not the second.
If you only watched the first 15 or so episodes then you would only know eureka as the cute quiet girl she used to be. That version of her did act alot like Rai. Her loyalty to Holland paralleled Rai's loyalty to Ikari alot.
Also the main characters are young boys who are chosen to pilot mac-daddy mecha that are more powerful than any other around. This being Eva unit1 and Nirvash TypeZero.
(It should be noted here that Shinji and Renton's personalities were always differant. Shinji is normally timid and withdrawn outside of the mech, while Renton is NORMALY bold and outgoing outside his.)
Futhermore, The first time we see Asuka pilot unit 2 seems very simular to the first time we see Anemone pilot TypeTheEnd. Crazy girl fight fight fight.
Tall-ho' and Misato both get drunk, and walk around grinning and scowling all the time. Both of there supeiors (holland and Ikari) rely on them to make things happen in battle. (hollands approach is alot more hands on though)
Here's the big one. Misha and Akagi

There basically the same character. One of my favorite quotes from Eureka Seven is when Tall-ho' and Misha are talking about Eureka back in the cave.
Misha: "This has nothing to do with Nerve (NERV)."
rofl However, after around episode 22 (the arm scene) things really start changing. The whole Beams storyline takes the similarities away. There is no parallel in Eva for Ray&Charles. In fact the idea of Shinji finding a real set of parents is just down right desirable. (His father was worthless)
The corallian-antibodies attacking the city-states could be compared to the angels attacks but since the angels attack on there own and the antibodies are only responding to attack that point doesn't stand up to well.
*spoiler* I'd really recommend not reading this. It has to do with the last episode
One thing though. In the final episode we do see something that parallels the Evangelion movie. Nirvash's joining with the scub coral makes it something akin to a god.
In the eva movie Unit 1 is used in a simular (sorta) way to do the whole Instrumentality effect. both mecha's end up as god type figues at the end of the shows.*spoiler*
