Wahabu glanced in the same direction as Safuma when he mentioned the trees, grinning instead of making a face. Kubwa had been good at climbing trees, and probably still was. It depended on your own skills and tolerence, and climbing trees was just not for Habu. He looked back to the princess when she said she had not done a good deal of exploring, looking as surprised as he felt. If anyone should explore, he would have expected it to be a member of the Royal family. But that was stereotypes for you! Not everyone did the same things, the tree thing proved that.

"It's good to have places to hide in case you need them," he commented brightly. When she told him of the mouse, he beamed proudly at her- a first catch was always a big deal!

"Wow, really?" he asked enthusiastically, perhaps a bit much but with a cub it always seemed good to be more impressed rather than less impressed, "Even if it was hurt, that's very impressive. Was it your first catch?"

She shrugged meekly at his surprise that she had not done any exploring. Her crimson eyes sparkling with something mix of amusement and shame at the admittance. It wasn't even that she hadn't explored, it was simply that she hadn't taken stock of where all she had been so it was as if she hadn't went at all. Smiling, she voiced her reasoning, "I just don't remember places I've been, really, or how I got there most of the time. I chase things."

Her expression was claimed by a beam, however, proud of his commentary on what she had accomplished such as finding hiding places and her first catch. Nodding earnestly, she smiled broadly, "Mmhm, first catch ever. Well, I've caught a bug or two, but nothing like a mouse."

"That's a good start, you're half-way there," he grinned, believing that hunting was an important part of being grown up, "You'll remember where you've gone more as you go there, but it's good to chase things. If you get good at hunting, you won't have to depend on others for food." Wahabu was not certain if the royalty had the same duties as the hunters, but he imagined it to be so. Either way, being able to provide for yourself was never a bad thing.

"See? Just doing the things you like or might normally do is good practice for being grown up," he declared proudly, "You might want to work on being sneakier when you follow someone, though. I didn't take too long to notice you-" Habu paused, tilting his head a bit- "Did I?"

Perhaps he had, and her patience had just worn out when he finally noticed her. It was possible, he wasn't paying attention that well.

She was finding she greatly enjoyed this lion's company, and would more than likely seek out his companionship again on another day. He was a good grown up, down to earth enough that he didn't treat her too much like a cub. Whether or not the royalty had to hunt all the time, Safuma had plans in her heart to travel some day. Even if not very far, she'd like to see places. "I'd like that. I don't wanna depend on others, especially for food." She nodded decisively, for though some things required a friend such as play and comfort, food should be her own responsibility.

When he mentioned the sneaky, she dropped her head and blushed slightly, "I tried at first, then I kind of gave up. I wanted you to notice me." Her tail flitted side to side behind her as she raised her face again to look at him eagerly, "But then I tried again, when you were going back and forth. Was I good then?"

Safuma was fantastic company for Wahabu, he could easily tell. So quick and easy was his return to a brighter mood when she showed up that, had he realized it, he would have laughed. It was nice to see that she had some independence when it would be so easy for someone of her status to just sit back and let someone else do it, especially at her age.

"That's good, you'll be able to do a lot more on your own if you can get food for yourself," he beamed, grinning down at her as she blushed at his questions about the sneaking.

"Well, once I knew you were there I was paying more attention anyway," he answered, "But you still did very well, considering."

Cubs usually had that sort of affect on people, especially when they were in a light enough mood that they emulated their elders rather than spurned against them. Safuma would have been glad to know that Wahabu enjoyed her company, as she feared sometimes that many adults prefer simply the passing presence of cubs and not the constant companionship that Safu looked for in lions. She wanted conversation - friendship, even, someone to talk to when she was bored out of her skull.

"Exactly, I don't want to rely on someone else to hunt for me. They might decide not to." She nodded, grinning at him wildly when he complimented her sneaking. Even if she wasn't perfect, he still thought she did well. "I'll get better."

Wahabu grinned down at Safuma, noting how smart she was for someone so small. He seemed to recall being much more naive when he was as small as her, nothing bad was going to happen in his mind. That was part of how he'd gotten the scars on his neck and back, and though he'd grown more cautious of potentially threatening strangers, he'd never really expected he'd need to fend for himself entirely. Luckily, since he loved his family and the Pride he was a part of, he'd not yet had to do so.

"That's very true, you're a clever cub, Safuma," he commented, "I bet you'll be the best at sneaking if you practice."

He was almost perfectly serious about that. Safuma was a good color to hide well in some of the grasses around here, after all. She might do fantastically here, and if she did then she would not do so poorly elsewhere.

If he had been speaking out loud, she would've known that perhaps perfecting her skills at home before leaving would be her best option. That was still a long time off, however, and perhaps she would come to that realisation on her own one day. She smiled broadly at Wahabu when he spoke, the light blush threatening to peek through her pelt though she kept it at bay. Silly little cub. "It'll be really hard to be the best."

Gaining courage, she added, "And if the other person or prey isn't paying attention, they won't even notice me." She beamed, though in her heart she knew that they had to not only not be paying attention, but they'd have to be completely oblivious to the clicks of snapping twigs and the swish of grass. Someday that would all be noise of the past.

"It'll be hard, but with practice you'll even be able to get the ones who are paying attention," he nodded confidently, certain that if she wanted to be a good huntress then she certainly would be able to manage it. "The more practice you get, the better. I'm just now really trying to get into hunting, so by the time you're as big as me you'll have a huge headstart."

Habu nodded brightly, not at all concerned with his poor but developping hunting skills.

The cub's eyes widened and she nodded with suppressed delight at the idea. She could take down anything if she could take down the animals that were paying attention. When he spoke of more practice and getting better with a headstart on him, she shook her head, "When you practice with me, you'll get better too." She smiled broadly, "Then we can take down anything when I grow up!" Her tail swished against the dirt and grass as she settled her rump down.

"Together?" he asked, exagerating a shocked tone a bit and grinning, "I don't know if I'm worthy of working with such an ambitious huntress! I'll only be a nuisance, I'm sure you'll find."

Habu hardly knew this side of him existed. He was just having fun-- perhaps being depressed had really messed with his head. Snickering at himself, he finally shook his head, "If you'd like to practice with me, or to let me practice with you, then I'm sure we'll get really good."

"Oh, you'll always be worthy. Besides, you still have a headstart on me now, so you'll be better than me for a long time." She nodded matter-of-factly, before quickly shaking her head when he said he'd be a nuisance, "You wouldn't be a nuisance at all! You'd be like... a teacher-friend." She nodded again, smiling broadly as she felt as if her head would just swivel off her neck at any moment with all this movement.

"I'd love to practice with you." She yawned suddenly, her golden pelt shuddering with an unseen shiver. A nap was definitely coming on, she felt so sleepy. Little cubs had to sleep more than they wanted, that was for sure.

"Headstarts don't count for much if you don't practice, or have the desire to become a lot better," he replied, still smiling, "Not to mention I have my fur working against me, I'd have to be very skillful to always stay hidden."

He laughed as she yawned, somehow not too surprised that she'd grown tired. It took energy to hunt, even just practicing, but most especially when you were young. "It doesn't sound like you're too up for practice right now, though," he commented.

She shook her head and smiled, "By the time I'm all grown up, you'll have gotten enough practice that your fur won't matter." She spoke confidently, her scarlet eyes glittering sleepily with contented excitement. When he spoke, her ears swivelled backwards as if she meant to deny his words, but she laughed and let her ears relax again.

"Yeah, I'm kinda tired." There was no point in hiding it, and if she didn't leave now, she wouldn't make it to Pride Rock before she passed out. "I guess I'll head home for a nap, but I'll look for you later, Wahabu?"

"I'm not going to argue with you, we'll see," he said decidedly, grinning at her own confidence and excitement. It would be fun to watch and help her improve, they'd always have something to talk about at least.

"You get going then, I'm sure if you can't find me that I could find you," Habu agreed brightly, nodding affrimatively. Of course, as a princess she would be easier to find since most knew the Royals were on Pride Rock. The yellow lion was quite happy for that, because it was just easier that way. It wasn't like any of his other friends were in any consistent place, or he might have found Kubwa before now.
