This is kind of off-topic, but...isn't sequel spelled with two e's?

Don't know, don't care. o_o I have my spelling quirks.

Fox: Which again proves my point that Webber has no clue except beyond his mouse-brain and wallet. Money may not be his main priority in this literary and symphonic rape (ooh I'm into "big" words today) but it is more than likely a starting factor.

Come on, we have three threads for one topic. So, let's make it one big ol' thread where we can discuss the Pros & Cons of this new idea Webber has gotten.

About a decade ago, Webber decided he wanted to make a sequal to his hit musical Phantom of the Opera by using the book The Phantom of Manhatten by Frederick Forsyth, which he had helped with in terms of content for the book. He only got as far as to write the song "The Heart is Slow to Learn." A video of it can be found on Youtube.com.

It dropped, but recently he has come back in full ego-swing from the hype of his 2004 musical-film, determined to complete it this time. Phans are mixed. A large portion of the phandom loath Forsyth's book because of its horrid portrayal of the characters and totally off-the-wall plot.

Webber says he is going to leave out some aspects of the book he doesn't agree with, but no one can say for sure just what those things will be.

DISCUSS:
- The very real possibility of PotO having a sequal
- Phantom of the Manhatten
- Do you like the idea? Yes or no and say why.
- What this sequal could do to and for the phandom
- Will the sequal bring more fanbrats?

what was the point of locking one of the larger threads and then creating a new one?

I am totally against this sequel. I even created a group on Facebook for people who don't want it to happen. Just an awful idea. As I've said (or, rather, typed) somewhere before, even if the music is great, the story will still be bloody awful.

Because we had three topics, regardless of size. It made more sense to make an "official" topic so that we wouldn't have multiple threads and get everything tangled.

yeah. i agree... even if the music is great, the story wont be as good.
ive also heard the song that alw made for the sequel (cant think of the name right now..) and i dont think it's as good as his other songs...

ohh you made a group on facebook?! lol.. im going to search it now.. xd

My gods! If the United Kingdom had enough sense of humor to host a comedy 'Roast', ALW would be the very first victim.

"Webber, listen. We love your music but we abosolutely f**king hate you!"

"Why don'tcha stop riding on that cash cow of an ex-wife of yours and not bother making the horrid Phantome sequel!"

"I'd rather be skinned alive by Robert Englund whilst watching Will Ferrel butchering Phantom than to see your next film!"

"If Erik himself was alive today,
I'm sure he'd praise you for making his name eternal then hate your advaricial guts!"

Hmm.. might make a separate thread for a guild roast. Bwahaha!

Oh my gonk

I truly hope this doesn't get made, because I think I'll cry. Then see it anyway, because I can't resist anything with Erik - even a badly done one - in it.

I feel in a similar manner. If the show is to be made, it seems rather hard to avoid seeing it due to general phandom and the train-wreck factor.

Haha, I found the group. Oh...actually there's like two...
Pssht, no one sees a musical for the story. talk2hand But no seriously, I also agree. Music alone, no matter how glorious, cannot fill gaping plotholes. It's like hanging a silk purse on a sow's ear...or something...

Any sequel is a travesty. I vote we picket about this. Who's with me?

Where would we picket? I doubt any of us have the money to go to Webber's house in England, much less find it.

Now, I thought PoM was okay, but now that I actually look back on it, there are SO MANY THINGS TERRIBLE ABOUT IT!! Why had I not seen this before??!?!!!

Anyway, instead of making Forsythe's book into a movie/musical, why not use Kay's book? It was well written and seems like it would make an interesting movie. Of course, it would probably be very long. xp

Also, as much as it pains me to say it, I would indeed see PoM. crying I can't help it! I must see everything Phantom related, it's one of my life goals! dramallama

First of all, I'm not too sure Kay would consent to that, especially if it was Webber. She might like the man, but come on. The guy is a doofus. Another thing is there's too much unrealistic romance/lust/naughty s**t going around in that book to be Erik's life. It seems like every stage of his life he gets rejected by love/someone lusts after him/whatever.

Wouldn't be a sequal anyway. *shrug* While Webber's at it, let's see him butcher CATS by doing a sequal.

Yes, I can see it now. DOGS. Lots of howling. Reminds me of when I first found out that the sequel was in the make. I was wailing at me computer.

Wait, wait! I've got a few refrences to different versions, so listen/look at your screen carefully.
2004: Christine died. Not much to go off of from there, is there?
Leroux: At the end, most of the characters die. Persian, Erik, the managers and the maestro guy.

I'd assume he'd go off the 2004 thing, but that wouldn't make any more sense than me saying something about a Persian!Meg phanphic. It just won't work, neither of those things would work.
Plus that matchup is weird...I had to think of something that wasn't an inside joke from my lunch table.
