Art is still a lingering possibility for me... My bf's uncle has a small business with making custom parts and stuff for motorcycles. He likes some of my stuff, (he saw two things, not that great) and wants me to learn how to air brush and paint on metal, so i can eventually customize for his clients if they want. Nothing is permanent, but I'm designing a 'logo' for his fledgling company. First time seriously using Illustrator..and with a Mac >_<.
I hear Art Institute of Chicago is SUPER expensive. $40,000 or something O_o;; and Columbia supposedly has a high drop out rate, though it's relatively easy to get in to.
If i do persue art, It'll likely be with in IL. my dad lives in VA, and i can technically use that address too, any schools near or in VA??

Keratin Though many of the art institutes are chop shops, Chicago Art Institute is not. Yes, do not confuse the School of the Art Institute in Chicago with the Illinois Institute of Art. SAIC is a great school if you're looking for a program that gives you a lot of freedom ~ If you want structure your best bet would be looking in to the more design oriented schools or... university art programs! Yes! Good ones exist, I swear! crying I wish there was an art school that gave you a balance between freedom and structure while also not being incredibly expensive. My absolute dream was to attend the School of the Art Institute in Chicago for my BFA, but it was way too expensive. Now I'm planning on going there for my masters, but it's incredibly hard to get in to for that. Right now I'm at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and it's a great program for design students. But I'm a painting major. Depending on what kind of art you want to pursue, some schools will be awesome or bad for you. Do a ton of research, I really should have done more. sad Good luck to you.

are you from chicago? (wootwoot) I think that SAIC is more classic art teachings, which can be cool but I don't see them having a great graphic design program. Columbia College is cool, but it has such a horrible reputation amongst kids in town for some reason. Plus its expensive for what it is. I think the student body is cool though. As far as I know, IADT is another one of those TV colleges, I wouldn't reccomend it. EDIT: Also, Columbia has some solid photo equipment; Imacon flexscans, profoto packs, rental hasselblads, mac pro labs. burning_eyes gahhhh, its to die for.

I didn't realize there were so many chicago-area people jeez!
I just got accepted into Parsons, and I'll probably go there because of their internship stuff, its a good place for that. It's an expensive school, but most of my tuition, minus the oh uh 18k for dorms. gonk
I went to a national portfolio day at the art institute, they have them every year. I'd reccomend going. I got to see SVA, Cooper Union, Parsons, SAIC, CalArts, blah blah.
Also, cooper union doesn't charge tuition, the only trick is being accepted. Definitely apply!

I graduated from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.
All I have ever ever EVER heard about SCAD is this: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
We have teachers who used to teach there... they speak ill of it.
Squaresville Pandemic goes there now. Ask him about it. He'll give you the real scoop.

Move and be FREE! Don't pick your school based on location. Select it by what is going to be best for you.
