Yeah, and a lot of them live here in America-land. Despite how much people brag about it being "The greatest country on Earth", it really isn't all that great. They just haven't heard of other countries. gonk

Poor London... London Bridge is falling down. sad

I was oblivious to the whole event for most of the day because I was in school. They didn't even announce it on the radio (which I was listening to all day). When I turned on CNN after school, I was shocked.

Sorry you had to deal with all the shitty aftermath, Mwa.

I'm sick of all this terrorist crap.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 08, 2005 3:58 am

gonk Thank-goodness my internet's back! (Why does it always break when there's something important going on?!!) Very glad to hear you're safe Mwa, hope all your friends and family are too. Hope you got home alright too.

Stupid americans... more people die everyday of poverty than they did in 9/11, and they act like 9/11 was the worst crime on earth. Well persoanlly, i think the fact that the country is so rich and greedy, is the biggest crime. scream I think that proportionally, if not outright, Britain gave more to the Tsunami appeal than America did... when america is goodness knows how many times more bigger, and more populated. And they went on about how generous they all were... stressed [/rant] I know that doesn't go for all of them though, and that they should be doing something about it right now. 3nodding I'm glad Mr Blair hasn't called off the G8 thingy. Very glad.

I'm also very glad many hundreds more weren't killed, and amazed at that, although very sad about the 37 that were... they still expect that number to rise over the course of the next few days though, as there are probably still bodies down in the tunnels. I was shocked to hear only 2 had died in the bus though... have you seen the pictures?!! *shudder* The top of the seats were blown off! Where people's heads would have been! gonk

They didn't announce it on the radio Ipo?!! The first I heard of it was on the radio, just after they realised it was a terrorist attack. I just don't understand how humans can think like that... that blowing other people up is a good thing... confused

So far, I don't know anyone personally that was killed, and only one injured, and I hope it stays that way, although I do know several people that were on the tubes/just got to work etc. I've heard some very lucky escape stories.

The emergency services were brilliant. So were the londoner's in the centre... I guess we're kinda used to it now... sweatdrop It was so strange watching it on TV, the streets were so empty at first, because they'd got everyone into the buildings, and hadn't evacuated the tunnels yet. This is London, just gone rush hour?!! Eery. Everyone was so calm too... they were all amazing. *very proud of our city's people*

Stupid americans... more people die everyday of poverty than they did in 9/11, and they act like 9/11 was the worst crime on earth.

If 9/11 happend to any other country, it would feel like the worst crime on earth to them too. Any incident where innocent people die because someone thought it was the right thing to do by blowing themselves up for whatever reason feels that way. It doesn't matter what scale its on. I'm sure the people of London feel just as upset as those of New York. If you're reffering to the people of Gaia saying that 9/11 is much worse and that everyone should stop "complaining," just know that they are wrong and don't understand what it's like. They probably never had something like that happen to them, or they cannot comprehend the feelings that come with an event like that. It's one thing to say something, but when you personally experience something like a bomb going off while you're in the area, it's really eye opening.

It's true that people die everyday from poverty, but in America, the average American probably only sees a "bum" every now and again. They don't truely see people starving and paper thin. Because they only see it on TV and not in real life, poverty and death like that doesn't really get across. Plus, the media rarely, if ever, does stories about other countries and ask for support. I see the occasional infomercial from groups that ask for help, but even those have been slowly disappearing. Do they often do stories about other countries in Britain? I hear that American news it really, really, close minded compaired to other news casts across the world. It probably has to do with censoring too. I think America is too sheltered to the rest of the world.

Did AMERICA go on about how generous they were, or was it just the politicians? Of course the politicians did something like that. They're good at sucking up all glory and good word for themselves and passing the buck when something bad happens.

"Success has many fathers. Failure is an orphan."

Of course Bush would say "We did good, look at us!" to take off some of the heat for the war. The government was really late on giving aid. I don't know what when on there. There was some political talk going around about why that was, but I don't want to get into that. As for not contributing as much as Britain, are you looking at the government sent aid only? I know lots of citizens rallied to give as much support as they could by themselves. Also, Bill Gates ALONE sent in ONE BILLION DOLLARS. eek That's one hundred million. I don't think he donated that much just for a tax write off either.

That's the funny thing about humans. Although we have the ability to reason and use logic, sometimes it's all screwed. Funny how we say we're the most advanced and intelligent beings on the planet, yet, overall, we show very little compassion for each other and are willing to kill our own for a plethera of reasons. Compassion and reason are two completely different things that often clash with each other. You can't be compassionate if you're totally logical and visa versa.

^_^ You should be very proud. From what I've seen, the situation was handled very well.

I guess what I'm trying to get at by responding to this post is, although I feel that America is too sheltered about the things that are going on around the world, we are not heartless. We feel hurt, we feel pain. America isn't ignoring everyone else's plight and only crying and wanting simpathy when something bad happens to us. It's been said that we're rich and that we're big, but in truth, that makes us just as vulnerable as any other country. We can spend millions and billions on safety, but it will never be enough. No one is safe from crazy people. They will find a way to hurt and kill.

Those who think that all other problems in the world cannot compair to 9/11 and that everyone else should stop "complaining" ought to rethink. If anything, that incident and others that involve the deaths of innocent citizens should bring us together. When something terrible like that happens, we should unite and support each other, not compair and compete in who had a worse attack. That's just wrong.

xd It was either Thing 1 or Thing 2 for presidency. I suppose it was more of a "pick the lesser of the two evils" kinda thing. I didn't like the candidates for the democrats or republicans, and the media NEVER EVER reports stuff about third parties. whee

I don't think it would... yeah, really really bad, and absolutely horrific, and should never ever have happened, but not the worst crime. Myeh, I learn to ignore idiots.

So? just because they don't see it, doesn't mean they can ignore it. It's the same case over here. (Not seeing it in real life) Although, alot of our college age people do go overseas to help out in poor countries for a gap year or experience or something. We do get fairly regular documentaries, and there are ALWAYS adverts on TV about aid, overseas work, stuff like that. I didn't realise that was such a big problem... confused You should start a petition! ^^

Um, that's what I meant... sweatdrop I shall know now to specify more when wrighting something like this again... >< It's only ever the politions that ever get to say ANYTHING anyway, unless something like the G8 happens... *grr*

And no, actually I meant the nation as a whole... even little kids over here were raising money, doing sponsored things, giving thier pocket money. I don't know what happened over there. I know some people over here were horribly greedy, and tried to cash in on this, some didn't give, some gave a little, and some gave alot. (Talking proportionally here, not in actuall amounts.) Of course exactly the same thing would happen in america, it's human nature. It's just that shocked me when I first heard it.

Bill gates doesn't need that one billion. Even he cannot spend that much. In PROPORTION, that probably wasn't any more than you or I gave, in fact, it could well be less.

Nonononono!! gonk That's really really really not what I meant AT ALL!!! I'm just really fed up of the way things like global poverty and global warming have been ignored for SO LONG, and annoyed that the countries (including Britain) that could have done something about it, havn't. I guess there's a fair bit of bad press against america here, things like in science lessons we're actually taught something about them not cutting down cfc's or soemthing? I can't remember... >.< (again, referring to the govornment of course.)
