Ok... about me. Real name: Sharalyn Dowell Location: San Antonio, TX Age: 18 Occupation: Telemarketing Representative (temporary because it pays well) Bio: Born and raised within a conservative christian environment. Always been surrounded by smart people. Excelled in school, flunked out in street smarts back in HS. Now I'm a bit more balanced since I started dating my future husband, Mark. Now my life consists of working in order to save money to get to Canada so I can be with him, eating, sleeping, and talking to Mark on the phone. I am a student at UTSA and just finished my last project due tonight, this afternoon. After I move to Canada I plan on studying at Westwood College through their online program and hope to get a degree in Web Design and Multimedia. I was born and raised in the heart of the Canadian west, Alberta which borders Montana and is usually called the most American province. xd Which of course is very appropriate considering my mother is an American ex-patriot from Vermont (which is why I'm a dual-citizen).
While I've always lived in Calgary (in the same house even), I have family all over the United States (in about eight or nine different states at any one time) and I visit them frequently, so I consider myself to be just as much American as Canadian, so I guess it's only appropriate that I'm engaged to a lovely lady from Texas (Thistle-chan aka Kara In-Ze), the most Alberta like state in the US. xd
While I read some comics as a kid like Archie's incarnation of the TMNT and some Spiderman, I kind of drifted away from it mostly because of the ever increasingly convoluted TMNT plot and the horrific Spiderman clone saga. However I got sucked back in when my mother bought me the February 1998 issue of Wizard because it had Spiderman on the front. Of course the cover article ripped into the subpar writing on Spiderman in the last few years, so I certainly wasn't about to jump into that again.
Instead I was rather captivated by Image comics (which was founded by hometown boy Todd McFarlane), specifically Witchblade and Danger Girl for rather obvious reasons since I was 14 at the time. I followed those and a couple others (Fathom, Tomb Raider, The Darkness) until 2001 when I decided rather misguidedly to dump comics in an effort to become a sheep. It was stupid and I did it, but hey I was shy and insecure at the time.
I started reading them again in late 2002 when I graduated from High School and regained my senses and individuality, but my interest didn't explode until 2003 when I was working at a bookstore with a modest graphic novel collection and an issue of Wizard on it's newstand every month. That got me back into reading Marvel combined with my newfound love of Daredevil after seeing the movie. The last straw was when I found out that my favourite writer (since picking up YTLM) Brian K Vaughan was starting up a Mystique solo title (I had always admired Mystique from afar since there was never anything remotely close to a good jumping on point for the X-Men and her apperances have never been regular enough to justify picking up any X book on a regular basis).
Since then my comic reading has exploded and my collection has grown about four hundred percent in the last twelve months (heavily populated by tradepaperbacks) and my discovery of Gaia (through the ad in Street Fighter) has triggered my all consuming Vertigo addiction. So yeah that's me and my story with comics in a nutshell.

 Hope I won't regret this sweatdrop Real Name: Amara Age:21 Location: Orlando, FL Occupation: Cashier/Student I was born and raised in Miami, FL. I'm from mostly Irish decent and I have one older sister. I grew up loving comics which all started one day when someone introduced me to Usagi Yojimbo. I later on got into the Wonder Woman and Young Justice comics. I also collect alot of the Teen Titans and Outsiders comics. I was first introduced to Gaia though a friend who all of you know as Sorce. Actually everyone in Kapow from Orlando knows one another. xp It's all Sorce's fault. I'm in college as an english education major. In the picture above I'm the one with the gold hair. And I hope Bruce won't get to mad because he's the guy in the middle xp ... He doesn't pictures stare .. I love reading and writing and hope one day to put out the great american novel. biggrin
