It's like some kind of crazy cheap surrogacy, except instead of a couple buying the baby, the state is. Man, typical surrogates get like, what, $20,000 minimum or so? Pft. Yeah, like everyone else, I woulda taken the money and used it for an abortion.

"Don't abort your baby! We'll provide free prenatal and free postnatal care, pay for the costs of raising your child, and if you don't want to, we'll lovingly raise him/her for you!"

There are people who supposedly do that. Some pro-life pregnancy-crisis centers offer to help women buy things like baby food, diapers, cribs, etc., pay for childcare, even rent for the first year. I'm not sure how much this actually is, and for how many years they give that kind of support, because that kind of coverage has to be expensive.

Yeah, to some people $500 is a lot. Like to me and my family... but I really hope the woman is smart enough to not take the $500 because if she is poor, then what about the REAL bills?
EDIT: There's probably a catch too if the person takes the money. DX
EDIT #2: How about they put better use to that money and donate it to the poor?

Because, with $500 extra dollars, you might be able to cover less than a fourth of the cost of giving birth to this child!

Oh ... wow.
Explioting the poor and attempting to dupe people into that ... I'm pretty insulted myself.
Do these people realize how much prenatal, birth, and postnatal care cost (not to mention any possible complications that will send your hospital bill SKYROCKETING) or are they just assuming that women don't realize this anyway?
Regardless, yeah, that's pretty sick.

I think I would take the money, get an abortion, and fake it as a miscarriage. That is, unless they're monitoring you or something. Then I'd just use my own money cause I do have some saved up! (Not really for abortion or anything, I'm just saving my money)

And care for it after, because personally, no way am I gonna let any child of mine be tossed from foster to foster until they're old enough to be kicked off the system. But yes, gestating and giving birth to it is a definitely start!

Avicia I don't get Texas. They're working to put basically an "express lane" in death row, however they go through this b.s. to protect a fetus. But those people aren't innocent, so they apparently don't deserve to live.
