Lucy Fugus
Orcas and dolphins are in the same family, yes.

A pregnant female bat can eat her body weight in insects every night!

Less than 0.5% of bats have rabies. It's just not as common as people think.
Lucy!! You're back!!! YAY!!

We saw some bats when we went caving... first time I've seen them in real life. Now I see why you like them so much... they're awesome!! =D

ALMOST all orange tabbys are male. I know this because I have an ultra rare orange tabby girl, with 5 fingers! Normal cats only have 4. I found her on the side of the road. I have loved her ever since. Her name is Ki Cat.

Cow tipping is a myth; cows do not lock their legs like horses, and only about one or two cows in a herd will doze off at a time and it's usually for less than a few minutes. Other than those rare "naps" [if you can even call them that], they actually /lie down/ when they sleep. Even if you tried knocking them over when they were taking a "nap", the other cows would be sure to notice. Besides, a cow weighs around 1,600-2,000 pounds, and it would take 6-7 very large men to knock one down.

I have a Simpsons quote that kinda goes with the theme.

Ralph Wiggum once said:
"My cat's breath smell like cat food."

also

Horses can sleep with their eyes open.

Really. That is amazing

I heard that fishes sleep with their eyes open, because they don't have eyelids. o.O

Penguins can jump almost 6 feet into the air.

A beaver can hold it's breath for 45 minutes.

Shark's need to swim, or they will sink.

The venom of a stonefish can kill a human in two hours.

The Emu is the world's third largest bird. The Ostrich and the Cassowary take the top positions.

Hopefully no one's mentioned this, but almost all calico cats are female. I believe the same is true with tortoiseshells.

Let's see... Horses have a valve on their stomach that prevents food from heading back up their esophagus, meaning they can't burp, throw up, etc. That's why colic is so dangerous for them.

A mouse's incisor teeth are strong enough to gnaw through concrete.

There is a species of animal, the zorilla, in Africa extremely similar to the North American skunk (it's often called the African skunk), except its spray is about 20 times more potent. It has been recorded that a pride of lions waited two hours to eat a kill they had made, because one of these creatures was wandering around it.

Horses can sleep with their eyes open.

I've been around horses for years, and I've never seen that, that I could tell.... They can sleep standing up, true, but I don't know about the eyes.

When dolphins sleep, only one half of their brain sleeps at a time. The other stays conscious so that it can still lean the dolphin upwards to take breaths of air from the surface.

A horse's eyes work somewhat like bifocal lenses. When they look down from them, they can focus better on items up close. Looking up from them lets them scan the horizon better. Check the next time a horse is curious about something closer to them. Chances are, they'll lift their muzzle enough to look somewhat down at it for a few seconds.

A horse can also scratch behind its ears with its hind hooves. Not just foals, either. I've seen a very tall mare do so as well.

The rhinocerus and horse have prehensile upper lips (our thumbs are prehensile...designed to pick things up). Giraffes have prehensile tongues.

When humpback whales make their migration down to Hawaii to have and raise their calves, they don't eat during the months they spend there. They live off of body fat until they return to Arctic waters, where the krill and small fish they eat are far more plentiful.

All purple queen fish are born female. When a male dies, a female changes to a male to take its place!

Pearlfish live inside other animals for protection and sometimes start eating them from the inside!

Some kinds of shrimp are born blind and live with gobies by building a burrow and the gobies watch for predators!

Cleaner fish wriggle their bodies to be recognized by larger fish so they're not eaten and they will actually clean larger fish!

Banded coral shrimp clean other animals skin and teeth hand eat what they find!

This is neat!
