{Playdate with Shouko}

Shouko Hiirigizawa lifted herself out of the somewhat uncomfortable seat she had planted herself into while she had eaten dinner that evening. Dinner for her consisted of various types of sweets and a mineral injection of her own concoction.

Researching and Observing wasn't the the best of jobs she had, as when she would call it quits for today she would return to her beloved hospital and clinic for the madness she truly craved. But for now....She would deal with this.

She adjusted her lab coat sleeve to cover her arm once more, concealing the bandage which covered the small puncture wound from the needle she used. Quickly, she gathered up her trash and disposed of it in the proper areas; after all if she did not do her part to help keep her environment healthy her brothers, sisters and cousins would die off quicker than the dinosaurs at the ice age.

She shoved the chair she had been using back under the table and grabbed her clipboard, pen and notes and turned to exit the room, hoping for a smooth walk back to Nhadala. Back to her prize.

Kitten and Seveda walked hand in hand down the hallway, swinging their hands between their bodies and humming a tune that the two of them were probably making up there on the spot.

In comparison to the pastel pinks and purples of the girl next to her, Kitten seemed strangely void of colour, minus the strange gold glow about her head. Gray hair and gray eyes behind her glasses was the most colour she wore beside the black tie and shoes and white jacket. They certainly made an odd couple.

So far, Kitten hadn't met any of the other researchers, but that wasn't completely a bad thing. Kitten was feeling rather nervous over her new charge and the last thing she wanted was to run into someone else and have them point out her various, and probably vast, mistakes. As meticulous as the woman can be, she manages to be quite the klutz and scatterbrain at the same time.

Pushing her way into the greenhouse, Kitten paused and pursed her lips slightly as she saw the other woman, but atleast she looked like she was about to leave, so perhaps she wouldn't stay and observe Kitten. It wasn't like the two of them were here for research, they were here for a little bit of fun.

Seveda spent so much time stuck up inside Kitten's room that Kitten just felt bad constantly, so she took Seveda around with her as much as she could. The girl had a wistful look about her, and there was a hint of a smile that seemed to show the dreamy thoughts that continued to tumble about in her head.

"Oh, I'm sorry, are we interrupting anything?" Kitten asked as she stepped away from the door to let Shouko out or otherwise just answer the question.

Shouko looked up from where she was standing and smiled. Great, people...That's the last thing my old a** needs is people. She thought to herself as she quickly collected her thoughts for a response. "No, no. I was simply going to collect Nhadala from her quarters," She stated with pleasant voice, under toned in annoyance. "Ah! I see you have a charge as well. I've not seen either of you here before, are you a new comer?"

Stupid question on her part, of course this woman was new, she didn't recognize her scent around here. Shouko clutched her clipboard to her ivy green colored sweater and awaited her answer, glancing to the new Vale in her usual plesant manner. Though some could say Shouko herself was a new comer as she was rarely ever spotted. She was crafty like that.

Kitten picked up the hint of annoyance in the woman's voice, but she wasn't stupid enough to comment on it. With a bright, almost faked smile Kitten nodded and gave Seveda a squeeze of her hand. "Yes mam, I'm new here, and this is the charge I've been given. Her name's Seveda and she's a beautiful tulipa puchella, aren't you my dear?"

Seveda giggled softly and blushed before shrugging, though it didn't look like she was going to bother speaking up for any reason. She was rather curious about this Nhadala person, wondering if she was like herself, but like before she didn't bother voicing her thoughts.

Kitten nudged Seveda's shoulder with her elbow and peered at the girl, mentally begging her to be polite. In return, Seveda blinked and cant her head to the side before speaking up, "Oh, I'm sorry mam. My name is Seveda and it's my pleasure to meet you."

"Likewise, child, likewise." Shouko murmured. This would be a grand opportunity to see how Nhadala would act with others...She pondered for a moment, I might as well give it a try, great research follows experimentation.

"Say, Seveda was it dear? Would you like to meet another of your kind? Her name is Nhadala. And she is about your age." Shouko smiled, switching on her more sweetened tone hoping to win over the nonchalant Vale.

Seveda perked up considerably. It wasn't that she hadn't looked happier a moment ago, but now she seemed to radiate joy. "A girl my age? Of course...I would love to meet her mam," she practically gushed before blinking and withdrawing a bit with a deep blush on her cheeks that matched her looping hair style. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so loud."

Kitten stiffled a laugh as she watched Seveda get shy once more. Although the girl acted shy a lot, she was actually quite friendly and bright when she opened up to people. Kitten didn't even remember the last time she had seen the shy side of Seveda.

Suddenly Kitten realized that although Seveda had introduced herself to the woman, Kitten had once again lost track of herself and forgotten to introduce herself to the woman. "Oh! I'm very sorry mam. My name is Kitten. I'm very sorry that I didn't introduce myself for you before."

"It's quite alright," Shouko mumbled, scratching the side of her cheek with a finger, "I too forgot to introduce myself. My name is Hiirigizawa Shouko, Ah. Shouko actually....Just call me Shouko." She smiled, extending a hand, "It's a pleasure to meet you Kitten."

Shouko smiled at Seveda once Kitten and her were finished formally exchanging greetings and extended a hand to the young girl herself, "It's also nice to meet you, Seveda....If you'll give me a moment, I can go retrieve Nhadala." She mused, pulling her clipboard otto her side and striding off quickly to retrieve the Vale from her quarters.

With a smile and a nod, Kitten extended her hand to grip Shouko's to shake it. "Just Shouko? Alright, I'm pretty sure I can remember that," she joked with a wink and the hint of soft laughter in her voice.

Seveda, having watched the curious exchange between Kitten and Shouko only managed to, awkwardly, shake Shouko's hand as well. You couldn't really blame her though, the girl hadn't really met anyone, and those she had met didn't bother shaking hands with them. "It's nice to meet you Shouko," she said again, seeming to have forgotten that she'd already exchanged pleasantries.

The two watched Shouko leave before turning to look at each other, both wearing an enthusiastic grin. "Well, this is exciting, isn't it my dear?" asked Kitten, reaching up and brushing some of Seveda's hair back into place and fixing a few of the petals placed in her hair.

Shouko returned approximately 10 minutes later, her clip board under one arm as she helped along a fragile young woman of average height and slender build. The young woman's hair was held in the air unnaturally by what seemed a phantom breeze. Her locks of various pinks swayed from side to side above her and around the front of her face giving off an ethreal essence. Her clothing was completely made of rose petals and ribbon, it was very pretty.

The young woman caught a glimpse of her new aquaintances as they neared and shyly ducked behind Shouko, peeking out from her shoulder at them with curious emerald eyes.

Shouko smiled as she pattered her way with Nhadala back to Kitten and Seveda and stepped aside a moment to keep Nhadala from hiding again and to introduce her, "Kitten. Seveda. This is Nhadala. She is my frail little charge. Nhadala, wave to Kitten and Seveda. This is not a time for rudeness." She spoke sternly.

The teenage Vale lifted a hand gingerly and waved the tips of her fingers at Seveda and Kitten with a shy reluctance, "H-hello Ms.Kitten...Ms.Seveda.."

While Shouko was gone, Kitten went about fixing up Seveda's skirts and frills, adjusting the petals in her hair and combing back a few stray hairs. Sure, she'd just groomed the poor girl moments ago, but Kitten was pretty compulsive with looks, and Seveda didn't seem to mind the pampering her guardian gave her.

Once Shouko returned the two looked up to watch the women enter, catching sight of the girl before she disappeared behind her guardian. That is, until Shouko stepped aside to reveal her once more. The girl wasn't just pretty, she was stunning, simply jaw-dropping in any aspect one might begin to imagine.

Kitten smiled at Nhadala and nodded, lifting a hand as well to return the wave, for she thought it might be almost rude of her at this point to assult her with handshake that seemed at this point unrequired.

Unlike Kitten, Seveda stayed quiet, watching the girl silently before looking back to her side where Kitten stood.

Oh, so that was the game was it? Poor Seveda, always needing to be told when it was proper to do things, otherwise she'd just lose herself to her own thoughts. Thus is the life of a dreamer.

"Hello Nh...Nhadala," replied Seveda cautiously and with the same shy tone that the other vale had used. Despite stumbling over the beginning of the girl's name she managed to make it through without butchering it, which allowed Kitten to sigh in relief.

"It's so nice to meet you Nhadala. Seveda's been hoping there was someone her age hanging about these parts. And even better you're a girl. Now the two of you can talk about all those...girl things, or whatever girls talk about these days."

Nhadala gave a sweet smile, stepping foreward towards Kitten and Seveda inquisitively and spoke in her soft tone, "What're....Girl things?"

Shouko internally groaned as she had never found a need to explain how gender roles had worked and what exactly Nhadala was expected to be interested in. She place da hand on Nhadala's shoulder and gave the girl a small smile, "I'll explain those things to you later on, Nhadala."

Seveda blinked at the question proposed by Nhadala and shook her head, turning to look up at Kitten after a moment. "I don't...I don't know what they are. Kitten, what are girl things?" she asked curiously.

Kitten shared Shouko's internal groan and rolled her eyes. Darnit, she should have known better than to mention that, huh? "Well baby, when you meet guys and stuff, and when you want to talk about doing your hair and dressing yourselfs up and such, those are girls things."

The tulip vale got a confused look on her face now, shaking her head once more. "There aren't any boys and you do my hair and pick out my clothes for me. Why would I talk about stuff like that?"

". . . nevermind sweetheart, I'll try and explain better later, ok?" Talk about a hopeless cause. "Heh, sorry Shouko. I'm afraid Seveda's just...not had as much interaction with others as I would like her to have."

"That's quite alright," She murmured, rubbing her neck abit to get the kink out of it. "Because of running my Hospital, Nhadala doesn't usually get to come out till the wee hours of the night. This is a first for her to be out this early." She looked ot Nhadala and gave her a small smile, and evaluated her a small bit. "She isn't very up-to-date about such girl things. Especially since I don't talk about them much to her...She is mainly book smarts."

Nhadala gave a bright smile as the compliment, or what she thought was a compliment. She lifted a hand and gestured as she began speaking, the wisps of her hair floating gently, "D-Did you know that water isn't an e-element? It's actually a combination of hydrogen and oxygen!"

Kitten placed a hand over her mouth to hide her smile and stifle her laughter, though there really wasn't a reason to be hiding it for it certainly wasn't a mocking laugh. Honestly, Kitten thought the girl was cute the way she boasted about something like her knowledge of water.

"It isn't? What's hydrogen and oxygen?" asked Seveda, flashing a perplexed look. "I don't really like to read," confessed the girl with a bland shrug.

Kitten groumbled to herself and shook her head. "I try my hardest to get this girl to read, or atleast pretend to be interested in reading, but everytime I bring out a book she just doodles all over it. The only thing she'll read is those silly romance novels."

"They aren't silly..." Seveda said with a tinge of hurt in her voice, casting her gaze to the side and blushing from Kitten's off-handed scolding.

Nhadala quirked her head abit at the word, "Romance?", she murmured, not fully understanding the concept of Romance. "What is Romance? Is it edible? Is it a game?" She questioned, looking to Seveda for the answer.

"Eh. Sometimes you can't stop girls from instinctually being girls." Shouko muttered, checking her watch quickly for the time.

Seveda perked up happily and clapped her hands together once, "Romance is the best. Stories about men falling in love with women and stories about things that happen to them. Usually something happens and the two of them are unable to be together for a time but they always end up together and it's a happy ending. I try to read atleast one every two days, but I think I can start reading one a day soon. I'm pretty good at reading," she finished, praising herself a bt.

With eyes shut tight, Kitten shook her head and put and arm around Seveda as a silent plea for her to be quite. "You wont be allowed to read any romance novels if you don't start focusing on your studies more. I wont have you failing out of science just because you don't know what hydrogen and oxygen are."

Catching sight of Shouko cheking her watch she cant her head to the side, "I'm sorry, are we holding you up? We didn't mean to keep you so long."

"Hmmnn? Oh no! No. I forgot what times it was. I'm supposed to be at a wedding in a couple of hours and I keep forgetting to check. My Granddaughter is finally getting married." She smiled, with a sigh. "It's so cute, almost like a Romance novel in itself, granted the only thing she really did was rope herself a now Ex-Priest."

Nhadala marveled at this. Her reading skills weren't THAT good, and added to Seveda's own praise with her own, "You're so talented, Ms.Seveda! It takes me 3-4 days to finish a book," She sniffed alittle in her own expressed pity," But I'm really good a math though! I can finish equations easily in afew minutes!"

It was amusing at Nhadala's own attempts to redeem herself in the youngers eyes. Perhaps Shouko would bring her delicate flower out more into the world, confidence is something she would need.

Innocent eyes grew wide and misty at the mention of being good at math and Seveda let out a breath of amazement. "Good at math and science, wow...that's amazing. Isn't that amazing mama?" asked the girl as she turned her head to smile up at Kitten.

The older woman laughed and nodded, reaching out to pinch Seveda's nose affectionatly. "It's amazing, especially compared to you silly," Kitten replied before looking back to Shouko. "She's great at composing and English but when it comes to calculations it's like there's nothing working up there," she said, teasing her charge and getting a pinch in her side in return.

"A marriage? Oh how wonderful! You must be very proud!" Despite Kitten's excited words, her eyes held the hint of sadness.

"The only one in the bunch so far to actually marry their mate." Shouko laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and muttering how marriage seemed to be taboo in her family. She rearranged a few petals from Nhadala's hair which caused the girl to look over wondering what she was doing, "It's alright." Shouko muttered, "Just a few things misplaced is all."

Nhadala blushed from the worry and looked down at the ground a bit to avoid the embarrisment. It was a little humiliating to have your 'mother' prissing you up, when it was technically supposed to be your job.

Seveda watched as Shouko fiddled with the girl's hair, but she didn't see anything to be shy about. Seveda just loved it when Kitten played with her hair, especially when she braided her silky locks of hair. Subconsciously, Seveda reached up and twirled a finger through a bit of her hair, toying with it by her temple before realizing and quickly dropping her hand.

Kitten sighed as she watched the two girl. Both were nice and polite, but they both seemed so reserved; she wondered if there was anything she could do to get the two of them to open up a bit more. Seveda would certainly be a ball of chatter if just given the chance, but she didn't want to make the other girl feel nervous.

"Uhm, if you want Nhadala, I have one of my romance novels that you can borrow if you want. It's not one of my favorites but I don't think it's bad at all," the girl spoke up, poiting over at the table she'd set the relatively average sized book sitting upon.

"R-Really?" Nhadala squeaked, perking up a bit from her near humiliation by her 'mother'. "I-I'd like that!" She smiled, clasping her hands together in a happy manner, "And if you want, I-I can help you with some of your studies! We can have study groups!" She said, the excitement with the prospect of having someone else to study with nearly bursting out of every pour in her being.

Shouko smiled, at least she knew the girl's social skills weren't completely lax. She would definantly have to bring her out more now.

Seveda's smile grew bright and she nodded enthusiastically, turning to hurry over to the table and grab the book to present to the other girl. The cover was scrawled with bright colours and two princesses posing and making silly faces up at the reader. "It's-It's about these two girls, they're princesses, and they both fall in love with the same boy, but he's not a prince so they aren't allowed to marry him. I wont tell you how it ends of course because that would be silly to spoil it for you."

Kitten did her best not to groan; she hated those stupid romance novels. Where the hell was the substance? It was all just a bunch of wishy-washy nonsence! The only good side of those silly books was that Seveda's imagination seemed to grow in leaps and bounds, and her grasp on languages seemed the be helped along by so much reading. "School's starting soon if I'm not mistaken. You two girls should sign up to be in the same classes, hmm?"

"Oh yea! That would be really fun! I really need help with studying!" Seveda replied, looking just as excited as Nhadala.

"They have schools for them?" Shouko questioned, looking surprised. "I didn't know they had school for them...I thought the majority of them were just babies..."

This bothered her a slight bit, she didn't want them to hinder Nhadala's already developed skills by using a different method of teaching on her. Especially one she might not be able to regulate.

"I can't wait!" She smiled, before hearing Shouko's watching go off. "What's that noise??"

Kitten's had rubbed at the back of her head in a nervous fashion, her shoulders lifting to emphasize her non-commital reply, "Uhm, well, I guess I can't tell you anything for sure because I'm not all that positive myself. From what I understoon there would be a school opening up relatively soon and that the classes would be divided according to the level of the Vale." Kitten had probably only passed the notice once, so she really didn't know what else to say or any more information to give the woman, so she just offered a smile instead. "If there is a school though, I think Seveda and Nhadala should try and take classes together, hmm?"

The noise of the watch didn't seem to bother or phase Seveda, she just blinked those big doe eyes and looked over at Kitten as if in question of something, but Kitten wasn't sure what the question was.

"Indeed." Shouko agreed before noticing that her watch was making noise; it was its alarm going off. "Ack!" She said, peeking down at the time with widened eyes.

She peeked back up to Kitten and Seveda and gave them an embarrassed smile and a small apologetic bow."I have to go now. If I don't start dressing quickly I'll be late." She laughed nervously. "It was nice to meet you both, and yes, we should make sure these two are in a class together."

Nhadala blinked back at her mother and than to Kitten and Seveda before she got what Shouko meant, "Wait! You mean we have to leave???" She whined, a disheartened look spreading upon her face.

"You'll be able to see them again!" Shouko hissed, hurrying along Nhadala before her. "Hope you both have a nice evening! Sorry to leave so suddenly like this!"

"Bye Seveda!!! I hope we meet again soon!!" Nhadala cried, tears falling from her eyes at being torn from someone else like her. It was a depressing feeling...

Both Seveda and Kitten had one of those wide-eyed, confused expressions on their faces as the two women began bustling about and leaving. Seveda was the first to snap out of it and her expression sank into one of forlorn adoration as she waved good-bye to Nhadala. "Bye-bye Nhadala! I'll see you soon," she giggled softly, trying to help Nhadala feel beter about having to leave.

Kitten placed a hand on Seveda's back in a form of comfort, her other hand lifting to wave good-bye to her new friend as well. "Do have fun Shouko, we look forward to seeing you again soon. Please send me a message with the best time for Nhadala and Seveda to have class together, I'm sure we can work around your schedule."

The gray-haired woman grinned sweetly at Seveda, "I'm glad you made a new friend today Seveda.." she said, brushing a lock of hair out of the girl's face as she nodded in confirmation. The two got back to the things they'd originally come to do, Kitten researching various things and Seveda reading one of her gooey love books.

Seveda met her first Vale today. It wasn't quite what I had expected I suppose.

The young Vale's name was Nhadala and she appears to be somewhere around Seveda's age, though I'm sure she's probably a bit older than my Seveda. I think she has a very unique and stunning look. Honestly, I think she will probably end up breaking many hearts when she gets older.

Despite Seveda and Nhadala getting on fairly well, they appear to be the exact oposite of each other as well as the same person at times. They are both so reserved when it comes to meeting new people. but they are warm and friendly once you get them talking. Seveda's clearly the slower of the two, when it comes to academics. I mean, sure, my little girl can kick butt in English, but this is a scientific lab sh'es living in. If she's going to help me out with my research then she's going to need to learn a few things from Nhadala. I hope they become the best of friends.

Nhadala's caretaker on the other hand, I'm not really sure what to think. She just...feels irritated with something. Maybe it was me and my Seveda, I don't know. I tried to be pleasant but it still felt like the woman didn't really wish to have anything to do with me.

Oh well, if our Vale's become friends then I am sure that Shouko and I will become friends as well.

{Playdate with Yiiei}

Kitten looked up at the clock as it ticked softly on the wall, drumming her fingers against the book she was reading before closing the book and standing up to move over to Seveda. "It's almost time, do you think you're ready for this?" the gray eyed woman asked the tulip child reading her own book. Much to Kitten's dismay it was another romance novel, but at the very leave Seveda was gaining bits of creativity from reading so much. Either way, Kitten knew she was going to need to start schooling the girl properly, but Seveda could be so stubborn.

"I'm no done reading yet," the girl replied wistfully, looking up from her book with a forlorn look. Kitten shook her head. "It's your responsibility. You can finish it after you're done babysitting little Eury. She's just like you and you know you're always asking to meet other Vales."

Kitten had prepared a lot of things for the girl to do with Eury, but she didn't actually know what the girl liked, but Kitten didn't want Seveda to screw up. If Seveda did something wrong then it was fairly likely it would also be pinned on her and Kitten's rep with Vale wasn't good, but atleast it wasn't bad!

Eury was cradled in the arms of Yiiei as she napped though being shifted every once in awhile, she was a heavy baby for the small young woman, she slept peacefully. Her head rested gently on Yiiei's shoulder as a hand wrapped around the obsever's neck. She liked the way her guardian felt. Warm. Soft. Lightly fragrant.

As Yiiei glanced from the piece of paper in her hand to the house in front of her she juggled the baby slightly as she tried to get to the door. Rapping at the door with a couple of knocks, she took a step back and waited for someone to answer. The student prayed that this was the right house. She needed to get her work done for both the VoE and for her college courses.

Someone answered from inside. "Its me, Yiiei."

A few minutes later the door knob turned and Yiiei hastily readied a nervous smile, praying silently that Eury wouldn't scare her babysitter before Yiiei had a chance to escape.

Kitten was partially startled by the knocking of the door. Honestly, she didn't expect for the two to show up just as she mentioned they'd be there 'any minute. With a laugh she plucked Seveda's book from her hands and gave her an affectionate poke in the arm. "Go on, open the door. I'm not going to be helping you with this unless you really need it. You hear me? I wont be babysitting this child for you."

Seveda wrinkled her nose in the way all teenages did when faced with something they weren't overly fond of. "You're the one that signed me up for this, not me," she retorted before standing up and brushing out her billowing skirt. Honestly, Seveda didn't mind at all that Kitten had voluntered her to babysit, she was just irritated that she wasn't able to finish her book until later. Seveda hated having to put a book down half-way through.

Moving to the door, Seveda pulled it open just a crack and peered out with inquisitive eyes, just to make sure this 'Yiiei' person was who she said she was, and not some intruder pretending to be someone dropping off her child. Pulling the door all the way open, Seveda motioned for the woman to come inside. "It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Yiiei. And is this baby Eury?" she asked with a sweet smile.

"Hello Seveda. Its nice to meet you," Yiiei greeted as she entered the home, shifting both baby and baby bag. Once pass the threshold, the young observer turned to Eury and nudged her gently.

"Eury, wake up now," she said gently but the baby didn't budge. Yiiei frowned at the persimmon girl before steeling her voice. "Baby do not think I do not know that you're playing." Yiiei knew that the little girl wouldn't understand her but she would understand her tone of voice.

And that she did. The baby lifted her head drowsily before turning to give a bored expression at the older tulip girl. Her expression was blanked as she watched with steady eyes before turning them to Yiiei and leaning back into the curve of the observer's neck. She wasn't interested.

The dark haired girl gave a nervous laugh and apologized, "I'm sorry Seveda. Eury can be a little grumpy after her nap." Her dark eyes then searched the room, "Is Kitten in?"

Seveda couldn't help but to smile and shake her head, stifling a giggle as the girl chose to ignore her instead of greet her. Seveda understood the sentiment perfectly and didn't take any offence to the gesture. "The poor doll. We have some really comfy beds around if Eury would like to continue her nap," Seveda attempted to offer with a smile. Not that she wanted Eury to sleep the whole time, but an ungrumpy baby would be pretty nice.

Kitten peered around Seveda's shoulder with a bright smile "I'm right here Yiiei! Aww, Eury is too cute!" Kitten cooed, slipping past Seveda to tickle Eury lightly on the cheek and coo cutely at her. It was certain Kitten was a bit more maternal that Seveda, but Yiiei shouldn't be too worried, Kitten wouldn't leave Seveda and Eury alone. "So how long will you be gone for?"

Eury wrinkled her nose as her cheeks were tickled by the strange woman. She gave Kitten a similar look of indifference. Why was she here? She wanted to go back to sleep at Yiiei's quiet place. The baby turned her face away from the strangers once Kitten had stopped tickling her cheeks. She really wasn't interested.

The observer gave an apologetic smile, "I'll be gone only for a few hours, I just really need to get some things done. You know the number to reach me at if you need me. I really appreciate this Kitten, Seveda." As Yiiei shifted the baby and dropped the baby bag onto the floor gently, she asked, "Did either one of you want to hold the baby?"

The pink-haired girl smiled as the baby shifted away from Kitten. Babies could be just so adorable without meaning to be. When Yiiei set down the bag, Seveda quickly shiffled over to pick it up and move it out of the way, placing it upon the table beside the couch she'd just been lounging upon.

Kitten nodded at Yiiei's words, stepping back a bit as Seveda moved forward. This was, afterall, her job to do. "Of course, of course. You don't need to worry about a thing. We'll call if there's a problem but I can't imagine anything going awry with little Eury. Is there anything special we need to know about? Feeding, naps, allergies?"

At the question of who would be holding the baby, Kitten held up her arms in the classic 'not me' pose, shaking her head with a smile as Seveda reluctantly stepped up. "I'd like to hold her mam," replied the girl politely, holding her arms out in the best mimicing pose she'd seen Kitten the last time she was given a baby to hold.

Yiiei handed Eury off to the young teen, shushing the baby to keep still and behave. She took a step back and smiled, exchanging a few words of goodbye with Kitten before leaving. The young observer prayed that Eury would behave herself.

The baby had begun to struggle at being handed to one of the strangers but after being given the look from her guardian she had settled down. Eury looked over the tulip teen with blank eyes. She really didn't want to be here. She wanted to be back at the lab or Yiiei's place but it was too late as she watched her guardian leave before she could make a complaint.

"Yiiei," Eury began to say. It was such an easy name unlike this purple colored strange who's name made her tongue trip over itself. The baby kept calling for the guardian but the observer never came to answer her call. Leaving the baby to stare at the babysitter with displeasure.

Seveda gently rocked Eury in her arms and moved over to the couch to sit down so Eury could rest on the teen's knees. Not that Seveda couldn't hold Eury, but it was probably better to not have to make her arms tired too fast. A pink finger tickled gently att Eury's cheek as Seveda spoke to her, "Hi there Eury, I'm Seveda. You can call me Sevvy if you want. Can you say that? Seh-vee?"

Kitten watched quietly for a moment before slipping into the kitchen to do her own chores as well as pick up a few of Seveda's. As a deal, Seveda had agreed to babysit for free in return for Kitten taking on some of her chores, such as cleaning dishes and doing the laundry. This way Kitten would be close-by and could help if she needed to but at the same time wasn't being too hands-on.

Kitten and Seveda had decided to spend the afternoon in the one of the various greenhouses, their interest in the outdoors growing slighter as the dark clouds continued to gather. It looked like rain, and let's face it, the rain's no fun unless you're a plant. Ok, so, technically Seveda was a plant, but she was growing more and more human with each stage and Kitten didn't even know if the woman would enjoy being caught out in the rain like a common tulip, for Seveda was a great deal more than common.

Seveda didn't bother to fathom what her 'mother' was thinking about, it allowed her own mind to wander happily. Seeing the dark clouds had promped the girl to want to water plants, carrying her own little spray bottle as she stepped from plant to plant, cooing to them and carrying on playful little conversations as she spritzed each one lightly.

"Aren't you a pretty one?" Seveda asked a particularly brightly blooming plant that she didn't know the name of. The girl wasn't grand with remembering all these long names and scientific names, simple names are another thing but these weren't labeled with simple names.

The older woman smiled as she watched her charge before looking back to her work, make a scribbled note here and there with a decorative pen that clicked as it scratched across the page. Neither of them really expected any company.

The rain began to pour down on the laboratory. The wild elf Kyo was holding his charge in his hands, who of which was wrapped up in a blanket. Too much water on a cactus could cause them to rot. Obviously Kyo didn't want this to happen to his baby charge, but he needed to get to the out side green house and work on a few things.

The cold chill of the rain fell onto the elf’s face as he stopped in his foot steps to take a look at the gathering rain clouds above the two. Kyo let out a long sigh, he loved everything about the rain, but with Opuntia he knew that experience was going to be limited.

The green house door slammed behind the two as Kyo was kicking off any excess water from his shoes and his brown shoulder length hair.
    "Opuntia you ok?"

Kyo lifted the blanket off his charge and stared down to the smiling green baby along with his new friend. A firefly, the two decided on the name Morti for the follower.
"Well it's good to know you both survived." Kyo grinned, but as he smiled he looked up and saw that they were not alone here.

"Oh hello, I don't believe we've seen either of you around here before." Kyo nodded, looking down at Opuntia with another smile.

Opuntia stared up at his guardian, a little flustered the warmth of the blanket was removed from him. A small sight left his lips, but that was soon interrupted as his friend Morti lifted up off his shoulder. The light fluttering of his wings tickled the cactus' face.

Opuntia turned his head slightly around to see who Kyo was looking at. There had been two other people in the green house. One who was brightly colored, which caught his attention the most.

Both women turned their heads at the sound of the greenhouse door, and both held their breath anxiously to see who would appear. Kitten simply assumed it was another researcher, but she hoped it wasn't a researcher that was feeling particularly territorial about this greenhouse, for she didn't want to have to go out in the rain. Seveda on the other hand, her imagination running wild as usual, imagined a dark and shadowy figure stepping in out of the rain and doing terrible things to the people happened upon.

Of course Kyocho wasn't like that, but after reading so many romance and mystery novels, the girl sometimes lost her grip on reality. As Kyocho spoke to Kitten, Seveda slipped around the side of one of the plants so she would be behind the attacker. She didn't hear that Kyocho wasn't a bad guy, instead she lifted her spray bottle and aimed it at the back of Kyocho's head.

"Leave my mom alone!" she shouted, sending a few spritzes of water in the mans direction. If he turned to face her she'd stop and run away. Protecting her mom was all well and good but she didn't want to get hurt either.

Kitten groaned and put her face in her hands. "Yea...we're new," she'd manage, amazed that she could speak considering how mortified she was.

"Wow... well I though we might get out of the rain by coming inside the greenhouse, but I guess you'll never get away from it." The elf just simply smiled, the cool chill sent shivers up his spine as the water trickled down his neck.

Looking down at Opuntia so that he could make sure none of the water landed on the cactus child.
"Looks like your still ok" Kyo nodded. Turning his head slightly to see a flash of bright color out of the color of his eye.

"Hey you wouldn't mind watching over Opuntia for me while I go do research in here, would you?"
The elf was rather oblivious to the fact that some one else was in here, or rather why this huge plant was trying to fight him off with a bottle of water.

"I would say you two are new, I haven't seen you guys around. Oh by the way I'm Researcher Kyocho, head of the Esperanza wing."

Kitten thought she could probably kill Seveda at this point. What in the world was that little dreamer doing anyway? Trying to kill the chance that they'd be accepted around here? Awesome, that's just what Kitten needed. "I am so, so sorry! She doesn't usually do stuff like that, I think she's just -- DON'T you dare young lady! Get over here and apologize to this man right now."

The gray haired woman had caught sight of the impish girl sneaking closer, and she wasn't about to let her spray the man again. "That's right, get over here," she grumbled as Seveda slinked over. When the girl had gotten in reach, Kitten pulled her over to her side. "Researcher Kyocho is it? It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Kitten and this is my Vale Seveda, who would be more than pleased to watch over Opuntia for you after apologizing."

"I'm very sorry. I thought you were attacking my mom..." Seveda explained, hanging her head and scuffing a toe against the floor. "I'd be more than happy to watch Opuntia for you, not a problem. I'm sorry again..."

Seveda stepped forward to accept the child from Kyocho, if he forgave her and let her watch over the boy that is.

"Wonderful, that would help out a lot and your apology is accepted" A smile adorned the elf’s fair skinned face. Feeling like a ton of bricks had been lifted off his shoulders. At least with Oak at home he didn't have to keep his eye on him constantly.

"Just watch out for his spines... there kind of sharp, he's still growing into them though." Kyo nodded a smile still on his face as he looked down at his charge.
"Ok Opuntia I'm going to hand you over to this wonderful Vale and she's going to keep an eye on you while I work." Kyo smiled then handed the babe over.

"I'll just be around in the back, if you need something just give me a holler," Kyo grinned and sighed as he left the presence of the two. Nodding to Kitten.

Opuntia stared up at the brightly colored Vale named Seveda. A yawn escaped his lips, but what happened next was completely unexpected. The cactus babes eyes turned almost pure white as a pot off to the left began to lift into the air then come crashing back down. His eyes returned to what they once where as a grin grew on his face.

A smile lit up Seveda's expression at the discovery that she would not be punished for her attack of the elf. Spines? Oh no. Seveda did the best to keep her smile cheerful as she carefully took the baby from the man's arms. "I'll be very careful, wouldn't want anyone to get hurt, would we?"

Kitten nodded and peered over Seveda's shoulder at the little green boy in her arms. "Opuntia is just adorable, you must be a very proud father," the woman commented before watching Kyocho leave. "I'm sure there wont be any reason to interrupt your work. We'll be here whenever you're done."

Seveda had begun to tickle a finger at Opuntia's chin and coo cutely at the boy when his eyes changed colours. The teen lifted her brows sceptically as she looked down at the boy, not noticing the pot beginning to hover in the air; the crash that came afterwards did not go unnoticed though. As the pot fell to the ground Seveda let out a yelp. "What in the world?!"

Opuntia cooed and giggled at the woman then he fell forward and dug his head against the oddly colored plant woman's body. Luckily there wasn't any spines that had yet grown on the front of Opuntia's body.

The boy then lifted his body back up, but his two hands had clasped onto the woman’s clothing. Opuntias eyes looked up and stared once again at Seveda, a small grin drew across his face. Since Seveda was new to him there wouldn't be any harm... in playing a few games, right?

This was getting fun for Opuntia, first he tested her reaction with the flying pot, but now he wanted to test how she would react to another situation. Opuntia's eyes once again began to turn almost white, although this time a pot didn't began to lift up into the air, this time it was the him.

Finally it donned on the busy working Kyo that he forgot to warn the two about… Opuntias abilities. Shaking his head left and right, knocking a few strands of hair from behind the safety of his ear, the elf just passed the thought on by and returned to work. Thinking the two of them would survive, how bad could it get?

Seveda blinked as she let her hand pet against Opuntia's back, careful to not harm either of them. Eury had been a lot less hands on when she'd watched her, so she wasn't exactly expecting this little boy to be any different. She was in for a surprise though, and thankfully Kitten would be there. The girl didn't say anything when the tiny fists wrinkled her clothing, but she couldn't help but ponder about the ironing she'd need to do later.

As soon as Seveda lost herself to her thoughts about doing her laundry she realized that Opuntia didn't feel quite so heavy in her arms, though he hadn't felt heavy earlier anyway.

"Mom? Mom? Kitten..." Seveda began, growing a bit more frantic in her words as the boy grew lighter and lighter. "Mom! Something's happening! I can't keep a hold on him!"

Kitten groaned and rolled her eyes as she had returned to the desk to work on the things she'd been assigned. The woman simply assumed Seveda was panicing because the boy was wriggling about too much. "Seveda, you just need to hold onto him. If you let go then he'll fall and...yea, you just can't drop a baby Seveda."

Opuntia was on a roll. A small chuckle and giggle left his lips as he went a bit higher... and higher and further away from Seveda. This game was getting fun, but it was starting to get old. He was only barely penetrating his abilities and he wanted to push them to there limit. The boys eyes went glossier this time and a pot started to hover as well, although Opuntia seemed to keep a constant height the same couldn't be said for the terracotta pot.

It rose and rose higher into the air and moved a bit to the left... and a bit to the right until finally... it stopped... almost right above Seveda and the hovering babe.

Despite Opuntia's insistance on floating away from her, Seveda would refuse to let go of the little boy's hands. She was not going to screw up and give herself and Kitten a bad rep around the Vale. The only way she'd let go at this point would be if the boy started biting or lifting her off the ground. The pot was completely ignored by the girl, but when Kitten finally decided to come and investigate what all the fuss was, the older woman would let out a stiffled yell and hurry over to the two charges. "Seveda! What have you done?"

Opuntia's focus was completely lost. His eyes returning to there natural state, but exhausted. The boy had pushed it to the max and it was getting close to nap time anyways.

Opuntia fell back into Sevedas arms. A yawn escaped his lips as he began to doze off.

Suddenly the pot that hovered in the air came crashing back down.

Kyo was completely oblivious to all the racket happening deeper into the greenhouse. Ever since Opuntia came into his life... he was a tad more used to the random floating items.

Seveda looked overly relieved at the sight of the boy calming down, her arms closing protectively about him as he began to doze off. If he felt like trying to float off again she'd be ready for it.

As the pot came crashing down Seveda let out a small shriek; the pot was, afterall, pretty darn close to her this time and she hadn't really noticed it until it was too late. The poor teen looked like her nerves had been shot in a total of only a few moments.

Kitten put an arm around Seveda and tried her best not to laugh as she looked at the napping boy. "It's nothing to be upset about Seveda...I've read that Vales are able to learn levetation...so I believe this little Opuntia has already mastered some of those abilities, don't you think?" Seveda didn't look comforted.

Kyo's Elvin ears decided to finally kick in. Picking up the sound waves of the shriek sent by the brightly colored Seveda, Kyo came running. Worried that it might have been already to late to be any help to the two.

Pots lied broken amongst the green house floor, leaving the elf in total shock. Lifting his right hand and placing it on his forehead, Kyo began to mutter some words in a foreign tongue.
"I'm so so sorry. I should have warned you two before hand. It completely escaped my mind."

A small chuckle resounded through the elf’s mind as a small grin grew in the corner of his face.
Well that was a good way to test the reactions of the older Vales towards the younger gifted Vales.

Kyo jotted a few mental notes down in his mind. The way Seveda seemed to be nerve racked was forever placed into his brain.

Seveda smiled and shook her head, her arms continuing to bounce the baby lightly against her body as it drowsed; the action something that just happened to come naturally to the girl the supposed. "No, it's fine, he's alright. I'm really sorry about the pots..."

Kitten nodded as she fixed Seveda's hair absently. "Yes, we're very sorry. how much do we need to pay the Vale for the pots? I hope there weren't an specimine in them, and I hope they weren't priceless artifacts stored here..." Kitten paled at the thought of having to replace priceless artifacts, that was simply something she didn't want to fathom.

"Oh it's ok. There just pots and pots tend to break a lot in here. I wouldn't worry about it." Kyo nodded and winked. Reaching out Kyo gently placed his arms around the cactus' body and lifted the drifting boy closer to himself.

"Thank you for watching him I really appreciate all your help." Kyo grinned, "I believe it's time for me to get back to my lab and put this guy down for a bit of sleep." Kyo nodded as he walked slowly towards the green house door chuckling silently to himself all the way to and out the door.

Seveda allowed Kyocho to take the boy from her, but she was overly-carfeul that the transfer didn't result in the boy floating away again. "Oh good," the girl said with a sigh, rubbing one of her arms anxiously with a hand. "Rest well little guy," Seveda managed as the two of them walked off before the girl let out a light groan and looked over at Kitten. "Well, that was fun."

Kitten just smiled and moved to gather her things. "It certainly was. Lets go home, I bought you a new romance novel that I was going to give you for a 'start of school' gift, but I think it's a good reward for yu hard work today."

The two of them left shortly after Kyocho with Seveda saying goodbye to her little plant friends she's been watering previously.

Kitten and I were in one of the greenhouses, minding our own business and hiding out from that nasty storm when a man with long ears (Kitten said he was an elf) came in carrying a little green baby boy. I thought he was an intruder so I shot at him with my spray bottle I'd been watering the plants with.

Opps! He was a researcher! So far, I haven't been grounded, but Kitten might change her mind about that if I'm not lucky!

To apologize for spraying him I offered to watch over his little boy for him while the man, Kyocho, worked on a few things.

There was a lot of weird stuff that happened! First I was holding the little boy, being careful not to hurt myself with his little spines, and then all of a sudden there are pots getting smashed up all around me and then little Opuntia started just floating away from me! I was so scared! When Kyocho finally came back I think he probably thought it was funny how scared I looked, but he was nice enough not to say anything. Of course, if he had said something sooner then maybe I wouldn't have been scared. Oh well.

Opuntia is adorable, but I prefer little Eury. She was hard to handle but Opuntia was even harder!

The Assistant yawned, she touched the cold metal of the nearby railing, pressing fingerprints into it. Removing the fingers quickly, she delicately placed them upon her forehead, trying to absorb the cool temperature quickly. Her shoes clicked upon the linoleum, making her way slowly through the hallways. The Vale seemed different now. Time seemed almost to flow nonexistent through its veins. It had slowly grown, with her integrity intact. This was truly one of her greatest achievements. The simplicity of the Laboratory, and the complexities of what lay within. It was a myriad of labyrinths from one Observer to another, whispers of what may come greeted her ears, and she'd smile with gentle pride. Whether some people knew it or not, the secrets of the Vale were probably more intricate than any others they would ever hear. How lucky these few Observers were, to be allowed entry into this sacred establishment.

Uenoh'ai moved along the floor slowly, walking down flights of stairs that still made her heart skip a beat. It had taken over a month of careful consideration and review of resumes before she'd finally been able to make a choice. So many candidates for the role of Zoology head, so many with good stable backgrounds. It was hard, the idea of turning down so many others and only allowing one admittance to the hallowed halls of the Vale's domain. She tucked her legs under her as she sat upon a bench by the fountain in the middle of the Laboratories. The one remaining manila folder, with letters scrawled across the small tab in the Assistant's unruly handwriting. The lucky one, who would oversee almost any odd creature that came through.

Her eyes trailed to Laboratory Sixteen. It was time to alert the new recruit. She stood up in a fluid motion, and suddenly decided to see how fast she could get there. Before she knew it, her excitement at the childish challenge had carried her across the tiles and up the stairs, laughing a little to herself and racing around the hair-pin turns. When she got to the top, she smiled, the small bit of adrenaline cheering her generally tired expression. Remembering her decorum, she smoothed her hair back and calmed her breathing, still walking ever closer to the Laboratory.

She had arrived, and knocking on the door she gently turned the knob and opened it. Uennie smiled, and nodded gracefully to the blossoming Tulip Specimen. The young woman stepped inside and smoothed her spotless coat, turning to the scientist inside.

"Observer Kitten, may I have a word?"

It had started off as the most ordinary of days, the alarm startling Kitten out of her slumber and the groggy woman shuffling through her room to rouse Seveda from her own sleep. There was breakfast to be made and research to conduct. One couldn't hope to just lounge about like a slug all day! As usual, showers allowed both women to wake into a far more alert state than the 'just rolled outta bed feeling' but the hot toast and bacon were what really got them talking. Kitten took to the task of informing Seveda about the chores she needed to do while the teen just rolled her eyes and nodded. Cleaning wasn't something Seveda really felt like doing today, but she was running low on her romance novels, so she might as well not rush through them.

Neither of them could have suspected what was hurrying towards their little laboratory on such a lovely day. Kitten had long since forgotten about the application she'd sent in for the Zoology position that had opened up soon after her acceptance into the Vale. Not to say that she didn't think herself worthy of the position, but she readily assumed that there were just more qualified people for the job, especially more qualified people that had been around longer. New people just didn't have the time to build up a reputation for things like this, especially when their Vale went around drenching Researchers.

At the knock of the door both women turned to open it, only to find that it was already being opened by the most surprising figure. Kitten couldn't remember if she had ever seen the assstant before, but she was sure she'd seen a picture somewhere and she knew that the woman coming into her lab was either very, very good or very, very bad. Seveda's cheeks lit into a light blush as Uenoh'ai greeted her first and she returned the silent nod. A blush was not what was appearing on Kitten's cheeks when the assistant turned to her. Cheeks paled at the request and she nodded, "Of course, what can I do for you mam?" Kitten didn't think it was too much of a coincidence that Uenoh'ai was showing up in her lab so soon after Seveda's attack on Kyocho.

The Assistant held the folder to her torso and offered the young Observer a warm smile. With her other hand she made a graceful upward sweep with her hand, gesturing for the woman to stand. She opened the doorway wider and stepped to the side of it, allowing room for the scientist to walk past. The young Tulip specimen suddenly registered in her mind. It was the teenaged creature she'd recently brought out of comatose. She wondered faintly, if the child remembered her?

"May we walk together, for a moment?" Uenoh'ai raised her voice slightly to be heard. The resume weighed in her hand, she wondered for a moment if she was sure this was right. Did they really need another high-ranking Researcher. The negative thoughts evaporated quickly, as she admonished herself mentally. Yes, they did. It was vital to what would happen soon. Better to prepare now than be caught unawares later. Organization and planning ahead was her bread and butter.

Kitten paled even more at the woman's words and she nodded silently as she pushed herself up and away from the table she'd been working at; and today had been looking as if to promise to be quite relaxing. Noting Uenoh'ai's gestures to move through the door, Kitten turned to Seveda and told her quietly that she would be back soon and that Seveda should be a good girl and read while Kitten was gone.

Seveda only nodded as she watched quietly; Kitten almost never looked so anxious and her mother's pale cheeks were making the teen ever more nervous. Just before Kitten had left the lab however, Seveda looked once more at the assistant and something in the back of her mind tickled at her. "Mama, mama. She's really nice, I know, I remember," she said with a smile in Uenoh'ai's direction before slipping away into another room to find the book she wanted to read. The girl couldn't really remember the older woman to the fullest, but she got a feeling of protection when she looked at her.

The woman attempted to look relieved for her child, but her heart was still racing. "Uhm, if this is about Seveda attacking Researcher Kyocho or the pots that were broken in the greenhouse we are both truly very sorry and will pay the Vale back if needed."

Uenoh'ai raised an eyebrow, she had heard something had happened, but as far as she knew it had been handled. Perhaps she should look into it? She mulled the idea over in her mind. She was constantly buried in paperwork, trying to find meanings behind the letters from Amelia, and going over costs of the Vale. Another matter that needed her attention would probably be a minute addition. The Assistant nodded to Seveda before closing the door behind both botanists. She walked beside the young woman quietly, and shook her head. Dismissing the question, she stayed a step ahead of the walking companion to lead the way, down the steps and down a hallway that was generally unlit and off-limits to other personnel.

It was indeed dark, and she used a key to unlock a nearby fuse box. Flipping a switch, the fluorescent lights began to illuminate, creating large knocking sounds that echoed off the walls as each one lit. The lights beamed down from an immense dome that continued straight until the very back of the enormous room, where there was a doorway leading to an even larger section. They were viewing this, from the other side of a tall wrought-iron gate. It seemed almost out-of-place here, as she unlocked it and pushed it to one side, gaining entrance.

"This is the Darwin Wing, probably one of my greatest pride and joys." Uennie said loudly, her voice echoed back and forth in the room. On the ceiling delicate murals of flora and fauna through the ages flowed in careful detail. Glass displays lined the walls, and cases peppered the marble floors. She reached out a hand and gently placed it upon the knee of a dinosaur skeleton. "A little dusty, I'd wager, but nothing a little elbow grease couldn't fix." Assistant Uenoh'ai frowned, she should've sent a crew down before they came.

"There are corridors to other parts of the wing on either side of the room. You'll find a very lovely collection of displays playing upon ancient civilizations and different animal habitats." She cleared her throat before motioning to the large door in the back. "That is entrance to the Vale's Menagerie. You will find almost any live animal there. As you probably guessed, it is a door to the outside, a zoological park if you will. Indeed it is set up as one of the finest Zoo's in the world, and you'll notice the stone wall surrounding the entire thing." Uennie turned to a glowing map of the area and placed a finger on the "You Are Here". Moving it across the plastic she tapped her index upon a room near the Zoo.

"For anyone you'd like to recruit here, that is their worker's quarters. There are ample supplies to maintain care of this facility there, as well as a small kitchenette, television, and seating." Uenoh'ai turned to the scientist, of which she assumed was probably very confused. "Young lady, you are the new head of Zoology here at the Vale. Congratulations, and well-done on your resume, Researcher." She held her hand out to the girl as a sign of goodwill. "If you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask."

The heart beating within Kitten's chest felt like it would come loose at any moment and fall right to her feet. The longer Uenoh'ai continued to walk the more Kitten felt like she was being lead to her doom, like one of those shows where pets were sent to the pound and then the worst of the worse happened when no one picked them up. The silence too made the woman's ears ring painfully. Was she supposed to talk to the woman? Was there anything that could be said at the moment besides sorry that would get her out of hot water? The poor woman was so hung up on thinking that she was in trouble for the whole Kyocho incident that she didn't notice where they were going. It wasn't until the lights flickered on that Kitten blinked gray eyes to adjust to the new glow of the fluorescent lighting.

Where the devil were they? It was certainly somewhere she'd never been...or many people at that thought as she noted the dust here and there. How...empty and hollow the place seemed. For being the favorite place of the assistant it seemed to devoid of life. Maybe the woman was being brought here to clean it up a bit? The second string of words uttered by Uenoh'ai seemed to put the nail on the coffin for the girl. She was being punished for Seveda's attack by cleaning the entire wing.

The rest of the woman's words were almost complete lost to Kitten as she hung her head, a hand lifting to her hair to twirl a few locks; the woman could revert to quite the immature state when she felt like she was being punished or scolded. Subconsciously her short gray hair began fading to a moody blue at the tips. Kitten didn't notice since she wasn't looking at a mirror, but it was a noticable change for the other assistant.

Suddenly the sight of the hand before her made Kitten start and she looked up with a perplexed look. Congradulations? On what? Oh snaps, what had the woman been talking about?

Hurridly Kitten took Uenoh'ai's hand and returned a firm handshake, a bright smile lighting up her face as the words the woman had spoken just a moment earlier seemed to rewind in her ears. "I - what? Zoology Head? Really? Oh wow, that's amazing! Thank you so much for this opportunity!" Kitten sputtered in an over excited manner. She wasn't being scolded! She was being promoted! What a change of events this was turning out to be.

For the first time Kitten took a better look around the wing, her eyes wide and misty, filled with the excitement they get when they've just found out Christmas came early in a form of a surprise present from their parents. She was the owner of a grand museum, and more than that she was now the owner of the most extensive zoo in the, what was it, the whole world? Well, ok, so maybe owner wasn't the best of words, but this was hers and that just made it something special.

As amazing and unbelievable as it sounds, I've been promoted!

Uenoh'ai came to me and asked if we could talk. I swear, I was so nervous I thought I was going to pass right out, but some how I managed to hold on. Good thing I did too! The assistant took me to the Darwin Wing. I'll confess, I'd never even heard of it before or seen it on any of the maps, but it's there and it is amazing.

There's an entire collection of animals, alive and dead and I'm in charge of all of it. I think it will probably take a lot of work and hard effort but I'm bound and determined for it to be a great place to be. I think I have a few plans and ideas up my sleeve, but I feel hesitant about implimenting them. I feel like a child that got the toy they always wanted but is too afraid to play with it just yet.

I haven't told Seveda the good news yet, but as much as she loves animals I'm sure she'll be just as estatic about the promotion as I am. I also hope to see Shouko and Kyocho again soon; Shouko because I feel that friends should tell each other things (and I want to be friends with her) and Kyocho because I remember him saying he was a researcher, maybe he can give me some tips.

Mama came back looking strange. She had a funny light in her eyes and she practically skipped with each step she took. I was a little afraid to talk to her, but i was really curious as to what had happened.

That woman, Uenoh'ai did Kitten call her? The woman came and took Kitten away for several hours. I was so worried they would take me away from my mama. I know Kitten isn't really my mother, but I don't want to leave her, she takes such good care of me and helps me to learn new things.

Would I even be here now if it wasn't for Kitten? I realized, when I was looking at Uenoh'ai, that I was reminded of the assistant. But where do I know her from? I don't think we've ever met and yet my mind tells me we have met, my mind tells me that she is a kind woman and that she cares more for the Vale than anyone could imagine, but I don't recall ever meeting her.

I realized I don't recall much before being introduced to Kitten. What was I like when I was younge? Does everyone forget their childhood like I have?

{Meeting Emily}

...// Opening Meeting.exe
...// Loading May 1st 2007
For the third time Emily Lucinda found herself treading slowly into the greenhouse. This time, tucked safely under her arm sat a notebook. She had yet to meet this “Edwin” fellow (Whom during her first few days was called Deadwind by the young girl) and as a result, she still hadn’t a clue where she was to do the planting that she was told she would be doing upon being hired. However, this didn’t damper her mood any.

She hummed a chipper tune as she skipped into the familiar room and made her way to one of the plants that had intrigued her during Dala’s tour. She had made up the idea to take notes on the currently existing specimens in the room for later reference, rather then sit there and do nothing hoping something would happen.

Pushing a lock of hair behind her ear, she took a seat on the ground and opened the spiral notepad. Soon she began scribbling observations on the sapling.

"What are you doing?" piped up a curious voice belonging to one tulipa puchella specimen. A sweet smile was upon the teen's face and it made her eyes light up like pools of dark rose water. Her green dress was smoothed but it wrinkled on its own despite the girls insisting hands. "Are you new here? What's your name? Clearly this girl was full of questions and it was only the manners her mother impressed upon her that kept them from spewing forth.

Kitten, oblivious to the fact that someone had entered, was busy scribbling away at her new assignments. There were plans to be made and things to be researched. A blueprint of the Darwin Wing was spread before her with numerous scribbles and words scratched out; clearly the woman just couldn't decide what she wanted to do. She was really going to need some help soon.

Emily squeaked at the voice that shattered her concentration. When she saw the owner of the voice she was delighted to see it was yet another one of those unique children she had met before. Her eyes sparkled with joy almost instantly. “I’m taking notes.” She chirped her response before standing up, leaving the notebook abandoned on the floor. “Why yes, I am new here. My names Emily!” The girl stuck out her tongue in a childish and playful manner before offering out her hand.

“What’s your name?” She piped out her question. “Why that’s a very pretty dress.” She added with a smile.

Seveda's eyes slipped to the abandoned journal and she lifted her brows before looking back to this so called 'Emily' with a wide grin. "I'm not used to not being 'the new one'," Seveda confessed with a shrug that brushed her shoulders against the looping twists of her soft pink/purple hair.

At the sight of Emily's tongue being shown to her the teen's expression became perplexed. Kitten didn't allow her to watch TV and Kitten had never done such an action, so she knew not how to react. "Why did you do that? Is there something on your tongue that you wish to be removed?"

The girl was oblivious to the questions, and you couldn't really blame her, especially given the confused look in her eyes.

Kitten lifted her head at the murmurred sound of voices and she furrowed her brow. Was that child talking to her plants again? The whole ordeal had started of cute, but it was growing tiresome. Hopefully when Seveda began helping Kitten with the animals in the Darwin Wing she'd stop talking to inanimate objects and start talking to living things. Not that plants were technically alive, Kitten just hoped that more than a leaf would benefit from her girl's sweet voice.

“Huh- oh?” Emily instantly flushed at the girls question. Her hand went to the back of her head as she scratched it in a nervous manner. “I- well- no I—“ Not finding any way to explain the action, and the girls response, she moved onto the statement made before the question.

“Not used to being the new one?” Ah, did that explain why the girl didn’t understand when someone stuck their tongue out? Was she the newest…child?

"Kitten, my mama, is the newest observer. Actually, she's a researcher now. She should be around here somewhere..." the girl said absently, her voice trailing off and a wistful look blanking her face.

As if knowing she was being spoken about, Kitten turned the corner and came face-to-face with the girl named Emily and her darling Vale. "Oh, uhm, hello," Kitten managed, not having been expecting to see a person conversing with Seveda. "You're not a plant." Genius. Pure. Genius.

“Oh! Newest researcher?” As the question escaped her lips, the woman in question appeared in eye sight. Emily smiled warmly. “No, I don’t think I am.” She giggled looking at her arms, and then her legs.

“Last I checked, I didn’t have roots.” She winked at the other girl before another giggle left her lips. Mentally she wanted to smack herself for seeming so childish, but ahh- what was done was done. What could she do? “I’m Emily."

Kitten had noticed that the girl was acting rather...immature, but she didn't think it a negative aspect unless it was a negative impact. As far as Kitten could tell the woman was just trying to be cute with Seveda and Seveda no doubt thought it was quite a great deal of fun. Seveda enjoyed anything out of the ordinary, idle conversation. Kitten was a wondeful mother but she wasn't the best for gossip and fun.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Emily. May I introduce Seveda, if she hasn't already introduced herself, and myself, Kitten. If you need any help with anything by all means please don't hesitate to ask, I'd be more than pleased to help you out. Might I ask what it is you're doing back here though?" Seveda paled slightly at Kitten's speech. Yes, she had forgotten to introduce herself. "Yea, I'm Seveda..." she'd chime in with a bashful smile.

Seveda? Seveda… OH! Dala! “Seveda? You know Nhadala, right? I met her just the other day and se told me about you!” With that Emily dragged her eyes to Kitten. “And you as well.” She smiled warmly, her hands clasping together in front of her.

“I’m here because I’m the newest greenhouse helper. Matter of fact, Dala told me I should seek you out for help. You see, I don’t know where I will be working with the seeds. She suggested you might know.”

"Nhadala spoke of me?" the Vale asked with an excited tone, seeming to visibly wriggle with happiness at the thought of her good friend mentioning her. People didn't go around mentioning people unless they liked them; that or the person wanted to cause others harm and Nhadala definitally wasn't the type of person to do that. Kitten didn't much seem to react to the news that people mentioned her, she had been recently promoted so she was used to people whispering about her as she passed.

"A greenhouse keeper? I believe Edwin's in charge of them," she started before wrinkling her nose and looking about the greenhouse curiously. Seeds? Kitten hadn't ever heard of that, but it made sense. Someone had to plant all these greenhouse babies and Edwin surely didn't have enough arms. "I'm afraid I don't know Miss Emily, I never did that so I'm afraid I'm a bit uneducated on the matter. I could find out if you'd like?" she offered with a warm smile.

“Yes she did.” Emily giggled, cocking her head to the side as she watched the teen before her bubble with energy.

It wasn’t a second later that she had turned her attention back to Kitten though. “Ah, yes. Edwin. I’ve been looking for him, but he seems to be elusive.” She confessed with a shrug. She knew she had a job to do, and she knew she needed to get it done. But when there wasn’t the boss to be found, what was a girl to do?

“Are you sure you aren’t too busy?” Emily asked in reference to the others offers. She thought back to the bitchy woman- Shouko?- she had run into earlier with Dala and shivered. She seemed amazingly busy, and she wasn’t sure all the other researchers were that busy or not. She mentally winced at the thought that the woman before her could even possibly be more busy then the living-horror-movie girl.

    Busy?

Kitten looked over her shoulder in the direction of the table she'd left, thinking about all the things that had probably piled up in the short amount of time she'd been away. Yes, Kitten was very busy, but she didn't want the woman to know that. It was the researcher's job to help others and help others she would. "Of course I'm not too busy. Please, allow me to find him. Enjoy Seveda's company during my absence. If you enjoy romance novels she's the perfect person to talk to," Kitten said with a smile and a lifted hand to wave as she moved off to locate this elusive Edwin.

Seveda blinked and turned her head to look at Emily as she'd momentarily let her mind slip and begun to imagine about the things she'd be doing that night, such as starting that new book of hers. "Hmm? What did I do?" she inquired, smiling at Emily obliviously.

”Oh that’s such a relief!” Emily breathed out as she watched the other woman leave, calling out a “Thank you!”

Left once more with the tulip girl, Emily smiled. "Romance huh? Who’s your favorite writer? What’s your favorite book?” Personally, she was more into action romances, simple mush wasn’t enough for her. But even a little Nora Roberts was nice at times.

Maybe she could kidnap a book or too from the girl for home reading if she had anything that sounded interesting enough.

At the question the girl paused, putting a finger to her lips as she pondered to herself before shrugging and shaking her head, "I lke anything worth reading I suppose." A finger was pulled into her mouth and she began to chew lightly upon the nail of her index finger. Seveda wasn't really happy with the answer personally, but she thought it was the best at the moment.

As she thought and chewed she suddenly felt like she could hear Kitten scolding her about chewing on her nails. Quickly her hands both flew to the front of her gown and she bundled the green cloth into clenching fists. "I suppose maybe Mercedes Lackey. I really love anything written by her. Oh! I really, really love Tamora Pierce as well. They both write so wonderfully and their stories are exciting. I don't think I have a favorite book though, there's just too many to pick from."

Anything that was worth reading seemed like a fair enough response for Emily, but the girl had gone on to explain further. She hadn’t heard of the authors the girl mentioned, but then again she wasn’t one big on romance novels so this came as no surprise to the girl. Instead she nodded thoughtfully, making a note to at least look them up.

Personally she was more into Orson Scott Card, finding Ender’s Game to be the best read she had had in years. And his parallel novel Ender’s Shadow had caused her to form the deep drive to take part in the science field. Though it wasn’t biology she was working in, she found there was still a unique trait from the section of science she had chosen.

By the place she was now employed at, she’d venture to say a much more interesting trait then she would have ever guessed. She smiled at the girl in front of her before taking a seat on the ground where she had originally been, before patting the ground next to her; asking the girl to join her on the ground.

Idly she wondered if this girl would get the romance story she had read a, seemingly, great amount of. Or if she would be as amazing at scooping facts as some of the characters from her own favorite books. It wasn’t something she was entirely sure either would know about, even when it happened, but for now she contented herself with pulling out her notebook and brushing the pencil gently across the paper. It wasn’t long before the line turned into another, and then eventually another, as Emily found herself sketching out the flowergirl.

Seveda watched the woman curiously as she didn't respond, fiddling idly with her dress in an apprehensive manner. Silence put the teen off guard, which is why she was always asking questions. As Emily sat down the pink-skinned girl paled slightly, Had she angered the woman? Were her answers not appropriate?

Lips were parted to give an apology when she suddenly noticed the woman patting the floor beside her. A smile replaced her worried expression and she crouched down, not actually willing to sit upon the floor like Emily was. Knees were tucked in against her chest and her rump rested against the heels of her black dress-shoes and she watched the girl begin to sketch in her book.

"What are you drawing?" she asked curiously before the image could take shape.

Emily smiled while the girl crouched near her, but didn’t respond to the question right away. Opting instead to remain in silence as she worked. She hummed a chipper tune, and when she was finally certain the figure’s hair and head were recognizable Emily turned to the girl and showed the product of her work.

“What do you think? Any good?” She asked after awhile, tucking a pencil behind her ear with her free hand as she did so.

Seveda pouted slightly as the woman refused to answer her. So she was mad at the teen? What had Seveda done to upset the previously pleasant woman? It wasn't even like Emily was mad at her, instead it just seemed like she was ignoring her.

Chin tucked against her knees, Seveda closed her eyes and sighed, not noticing the sketchbook being turned back towards her.

At the sound of Emily's voice the woman lifted her head and looked curiously at the image for a moment before letting out a delighted squeek, "It's me! I love it miss Emily! Wow...you're such a great artist!"

Emily chuckled nervously at the girl. She had taken up art as a hobby when she was a younger. She knew she wasn’t amazing, but she had at least passed the stick figure stage triumphantly. So when Seveda complemented her drawing she flushed a little ducking her head down. She had a passion for drawing flowers and plants from her passion of studying said figures. She had had a general disdain for drawing people, finding not that they came unshapely, but more so it wasn’t just…fun.

Seveda gave her the passion as if she were drawing a flower.

She smiled after awhile before turning the sketchbook back to herself and going back to sketch the girl’s dress. “Do you draw Seveda?” She questioned as her pencil brushed over the pad with eased practice. “What’s your favorite flower?”

The girl watched with dark rose-water eyes, their misty depths glistening in the filtered light of the green-houses sunlight. Watching people draw, she decided to herself, was her next favorite hobby after reading. Emily's concentration to detail and the way she held her pencil were all things that the tulip specimen observed.

At the question she shook her head, a petal falling from her pinned up hair. "I don't think I can. I've never tried before I guess." Sure, the girl had doodled things all over her science books, but it wasn't really drawing in her opinion, just silly stars and swirls honestly. "I like water lilies a lot," she mused. Obviously tulip was one of her favorites as well, but she thought that might go without saying.

Emily nodded her head and moved on to the sketch girl’s arms, and then worked on the hands holding a bouquet of water lily’s in her hand. She stressed her mind for the exact image of the flower to appear in her minds eye, wanting the detail to be perfect.

She could practically feel the seconds turn to minutes, but when she finally finished the drawing she signed it with a “There!” And then passed the notebook to the tulip girl. “Put your name right there?” She asked with a smile.

Leaning back on her hands she looked at the girl. “If you haven’t tried, how would you know?”

Seveda watched silently, she didn't want to interrupt the girl. Idly her mind wandered. Where had Kitten wandered off to? No doubt the woman had gotten lost somewhere in the complex. It seemed to be pretty common these days.

At Emily's words she snapped out of her own thoughts and peered wide-eyed at the paper with a bright expression "Oh wow! That's so cool!" As she was handed the paper she peered at it before taking the pencil and scrawling her name in a fancy script where Emily had motioned.

Shoulder were shrugged as she handed back the notebook, "It seems like it's something that you have to practice at, isn't it? I haven't ever tried so I can't imagine being able to have the talent."

Emily nodded before closing the notebook. “It does take practice. But you know, practice makes perfect- excuse the cliché moment there.” She giggled. “You should draw me a picture some time and next time you see me give it to me. I’ll stick it up in my house.” She offered her pinkie up as a promise gesture that she had used when she was younger, giggling all the while.

“Think your mom will be coming back soon?”

The pinkie offered was curious to Seveda. Like the act of sticking out one's tongue, Seveda wasn't familiar with it and thus she simply looked at the pinkie as if it was an alien attatched to Emily's hand. "I-I might...I don't think I can start out with people first. I can draw you some stars?" she offered with a bashful expression.

Turning her head she peered at the door to the greenhouse as if Kitten would walk in at any moment. "I bet she's lost," Seveda reaplied with a laugh and a shake of her head. The girl didn't honestly know where her mother had gone.

Not getting a reaction from the infamous pinkie swear, she shrugged it off mentally. “I would love some stars.” Emily spoke with a nod before standing up and offering a hand for the girl to take. “Wanna go wait for her at the door?”

After having met Shouko, Emily was weary off doing to much with the children. Honestly speaking she was a bit scared of talking to Seveda without her mother around to ‘take notes’ on it, because of Shouko’s previous reaction. But Kitten had allowed them to talk, so she assumed it was fairly okay.

    “I bet she’d come soon.”

"You don't think you'll get tired standing by the door? I don't know when she'll be back," the girl replied, standing and brushing off her skirts without the woman's help. Not that she was refusing it, just that she didn't notice the offered hand.

To be quite honest, Kitten wasn't as diligent with Seveda as she should have been. She didn't have journals filled to the brim with Seveda's every movement, or even major events. The researcher was too busy with the Darwin Wing and Seveda wrote in her own journal enough that Kitten could monitor her that way if she desired. In otherwords, Kitten was very much not like Shouko. Not that Emily would know that of course.

The teen shrugged at Emily's optimism though she didn't share it.

Truth be told, Emily couldn’t care less if the other woman didn’t show up instantly or not. She just wanted to stretch her legs some. “I don’t know, Maybe.” She responded without much thought. She smiled at the girl as she brushed off her skirts and when she was sure the teen was done moved to the entrance of the door, wincing slightly as the blood rushed back through her veins.

Pins and needles, pins and needles. When the sting had finally gone she relaxed increasingly and leaned against a nearby wall. “So how long have you known Dala?” She asked, attempting to strike up another conversation.

Kitten returned before Seveda was able to answer the question and the teen shut her mouth so her jaw didn't dangle open looking silly. Kitten didn't much look like the Kitten that had left a little while ago however. The woman that had left, a gray-haired, gray-eyed chick with short hair was now replaced with a woman with short but curly locks of black hair frosted with a light, ice-blue and eyes like saphirres. The characteristically bright smile had not changed though and so Seveda knew it was her mother.

"I'm sorry it took me so long. I took a wrong turn somewhere along the line and, well, I found your man and I've returned with a map for you my dear!" Kitten held out a sheet of paper with doodlings scribbled across it, including an 'x-marks the spot'. "The guy you're looking for, Edwin, he's in the Biodome. I got him to draw a map for you so I hope you can find it better than I did."

“I- Wha?” To say the girl was baffled was an understatement. She wanted to ask what had happened to the other, but the words weren’t there. “I-“ She tried again.

And suddenly Emily was doing a great imitation of a fish. Her mouth opening and closing, opening and closing again and again. Finally she muttered a soft “Thanks.” As she took the map and forced away a frown at the object. Ew. Another map.

Oh well, at least she could find her boss now. “You look…great.” She smiled at a feeble attempt at bringing up the sudden appearance change.

Blue eyes were blinked in curiosity at the woman's reaction and reply. Not only was the girl looking at her like she'd just stepped out of a space pod but she didn't seem all that appreciative of the hard work Kitten had gone through to get her the map. "I can show you where it leads so you don't get lost if you'd like?" she offered, though she wasn't thrilled about the time she'd wasted. There were language classes to compile and the zoology department to research.

Seveda stepped over to her mother and reached up to tug lightly at one of the black curls. "Mama, you changed," the girl said sofly with a smile.

Kitten blinked once more before smiling bashfully. Instantly the locks straightened and faded into gray and the blue in her eyes seemed to drain out. "I'm sorry, that must be a bit of a shock. It happens sometimes when I get flustered or frustrated. Often I can't tell that it's happened so I can't actually change it back. I hope I didn't scare you?"

“Oh, no, no! The map is perfect thank you!” she cheered holding the map closer to her then need be.

    But then kitten changed.

Emily’s jaw opened, her eyes widened to the size of plates. Once more she resumed her fish impression as she hugged the map closer to her. Oh dear god, she could only wonder what she had gotten herself into by getting hired at this place. “…woah.” Was all she could murmur out when she finally got over the shock. She mentally winced when it came out as if she was high.

Kitten couldn't help but hold back the laughter from Emily's reaction, but this only made her snort and that sent her into a fit of giggles. "You've never seen a changling before, have you then?" the woman asked, looking back over to the woman.

the researcher couldn't help it. Hair like waves of gold grew quickly out of the short gray locks and her eyes become a violet purple. Of course Kitten could change just about anything else on her body, but changing her hair and eyes was the easiest hting to do and it was a great deal quicker.

Emily had opened her mouth to respond, but again the girl changed. A whimper came from her mouth as a response and she could only shake her head no.

Finally though, she broke out of her stupor, and she rushed to Kitten, her eyes still wide but this time twinkling with delight. “Wow! That’s so cool! Do it again!” She cheered, walking around Kitten in a circle trying to take in the new change. “Oh man! I wanna do that!”

Emily's reaction pleased the woman, for Kitten didn't want the woman to be scared of her anymore. "Give me a moment and I'll do more than change my hair colour," the woman replied with quite the mischevious grin.

It's an odd thing, watching a 5 foot something woman suddenly begin to shrink, but shrink Kitten did. Now standing at three feet with brilliant orange hair cut straight against her shoulders and prim bangs falling just above green eyes. Her cheeks and nose were smattered in freckles and her body had, well, filled out.

"E'r met a dorf?" the woman asked in a faked but not terrible dwarven accent.

“mmkay!” Emily cheered and watched with childish glee as the woman before her shrink. It seemed as if the only thing about her that hadn’t changed in any form or manner was her green eyes.

“No!” Emily cheered giggling and clapping her hand together once, before lacing her fingers together.

She found herself curious all over again, with what kind of place she had found herself employed to. Abnormal children, and morphing researchers.

“Have you always been able to do that?”

Kitten shrugged wide shoulders and gave the woman a nod before growing to just a little under 5 feet with soft purple hair that seemed to shift like the moonlight and deep purples eyes, slanted and cat-like. With her long, pointed ears it was obvious the girl had morfed herself into an elf.

"I got it from my mother's side of my family. You should have seen the look on my father's face when I sneezed as a baby while he was holding me. I can shift into a whole other species or I can change only small things, such as eyes or ears, or whatever I want. Some things are a lot harder than others, but if I don't change for a while then it's easy. I don't usually change so shifting like I am now isn't hard. Just, don't ask me to be a dragon. That takes weeks to recouperate from."

“Wow!” Emily breathed out, as she took in not only the sight of the other woman, but the information. A bit of her really did want to see the dragon, but she knew better then to ask. “Does your father not...change?” She asked curiously after awhile.

Even as she talked, however, her eyes weren’t locked on the other’s purple ones. Rather instead studying her from head to toe. One day too many playing DND with her father and older brother made it all too easy to recognize the transformation and Emily found herself more then just a tad envious.

“Seveda? Did you know your mum could do this?” A pause. “Can you do this?” At that question Emily turned wide, curious, eyes to the tulip girl.

Seveda blinked as Emily rounded on her before the girl shook her head with a blank look. "Yes, I knew, and no, I'm not actually, well, blood related to Kitten, so it wouldn't make sense if I could do something she could. She's my mom, yea, but she didn't give birth to me." The tulip girl gave a brught smile before turning to gather her things. She knew what Kitten was going to say next.

"My father's just a mortal. He didn't even know my mother was a shifter until after I became a little horned imp in his arms." Kitten smiled at the thought of the fond memory that she only shared through the stories she'd been told.

Snapping out of memory lane, Kitten gave an apologetic smile as she spoke, changing back to her 'normal' shapes and colours. "Actually Miss Emily, Seveda and I really need to be going now. I hope you're able to find Edwin and I hope you come see Seveda and I again very soon."

With a smile, the two women left Emily with just the silence of the plants and the map in her hands.

Not blood related? Well if it had been to this woman, the different appearance would have made sense. But now she was drawn to her original theory. This place, the place of work, was birthing children that seemed to have something to do with plants. Dala had rose petals in her hair, for example.

She nodded her head to this new information. “Makes sense.” She murmured but couldn’t help the giggle at Kitten’s ‘horned imp’ story. “Suppose he was in for a shock, huh?” She snickered behind a hand she had brought up while laughing.

At the mention of them needing to leave, the giggles slowed, then halted. A smile planted itself on her lips, her hands coming together in front of her, her fingers lacing themselves together. “Okay, I understand. Thank you again. I’m sure it will help a lot. Hope to see again as well.” And with that the two were gone.

Once she was certain both had really gone, and weren’t coming back, Emily shifted in her spot, then spun around all together. Her legs carrying her briskly to the spot where she had left her notebook. Picking up the said object, she fumbled through the pages until she reached the picture of Seveda and stared at it intently.

Then, flipping the pages, she sat back down on the ground and began to draw the image of a woman who could change her shape. When she was done, she would leave the green house, but at the moment she was content to just her drawings.

I met one of the new helpers today in the greenhouse. She's a really good artist and I'm really envious, but I think I'm going to pick up drawing as a hobby. I think that with a lot of practice I'll be able to be a good artist as well. Maybe I wont ever be as good as Emily is but that doesn't mean I can't be good, does it? I spent a lot of time with her alone. She seems to know and be friends with Nhadala, which is so cool. I hope I get to see Nhadala again soon. Maybe the three of us can do something fun together!

Kitten came in after I spent a lot of time talking to Emily. For a long time Kitten showed off her morphing powers. I got kinda quite I think. I will always be envious of Kitten's powers. I really wish I was blood related to her, but I don't have anyone at all. It's not fair really. I want a real mother and a real father and I want to have a sister or a brother or someone that I have a connection with. Emily seemed pretty surprised when I said I wasn't blood related to Kitten. I guess I was a little surprised because I don't look anything like Kitten, unless she morphs to look like me. But even then there's no one else like me...

Kitten was excited and the way she looked really seemed to express that. Her hair was spiked and a bright orange with yellow tips while her eyes glittered yellow like the sun. "Explosive" was the best way to describe the woman. "Seveda my dear! I've brought you a gift! Where are you?" Kitten searched the lab curiously, peeking into each individual room quickly before retuning to the main room with a confused expression. Even her bright hair seemed dulled now that she couldn't find her little charge. Now where in the world could that teenager have gone? the woman thought to herself before beginning another scan of the rooms assigned to her and the specimen.

Halfway through her exploration of the lab she heard the main door open and shut softly and the sound of mary-janes clicking across the hard floor. "Seveda, is that you?" asked the woman as she stuck her head out of the room she'd been searching. At the sight of the tulip girl her locks brightened again and she practically lept from the room to get to her daughter. "Where have you been?" Seveda shrugged lightly and lifted her brows curiously, "I was down at the greenhouse before I forgot to water one of the plants after meeting Emily. Is that ok?" the teen asked, placing her water spritzer off to the side and moving over to the table where the two usually ate meals.

Kitten placed the small box she'd been holding down next to Seveda with a bit of a triumphant twinkle in her eyes. "I got you a gift that I know you'll just absolutely love," Kitten explained, presenting the box as if it were the gift and it was the single most special thing in the entire world. Seveda didn't really know how to reply so she simply took the box from the table and rattled it next to her ear as if trying to figure out what could be hidden within the box. "Is it a new book?" she asked, though she knew it couldn't be a book; the box wasn't large enough and the item inside just didn't sound like a book being shaken up.

"Of course it isn't my dear," Kitten replied with a laugh, sitting down across from Seveda and watching the girl inspect the box. "Come on! Open it!" Seveda, lost in her pondering over the box, jumped lightly at Kitten's explaination. With a nod and a smile that seemed to say 'ok, ok' she tugged open the box and blinked at the small black...thing that came tumbling out. "What is this? A matchbox?" Slim fingers reached out to pick up the small black item, her expreession growing even more confused at the sight of the long cords dangling from the item and ending in two ball shaped objects. Kitten snorted back laughter and her hair and eyes flumped back into their average gray shades. "It's an MP3 player silly girl. You put those balls into your ears and puch the button that looks like an arrow and it will play you a song. At the moment it's only big enough to hold one song but when I can afford to buy you more space you'll be able to put more music on it."

The teen's face lit up at the idea. She could listen to music while she was watering plants and it wouldn't bother Kitten with her research. She could only remember too well how angry Kitten had been when her research had been interupted with a giant pen slash across a very important form when Seveda had set up a small stereo near her work station. "What song is it?" the girl asked as she fiddled with the ear buds, trying to put them into her ears properly while not hurting herself. "It's a foreign language I would like you to start learning my dear, it's called Japanese. Once you've mastered it we will start on other languages. I hope you enjoy the song, it's about romance. Once you can tell me what all the lyrics say we'll buy you a new song to listen to. How does that sound?"

Seveda nodded eagerly as she hit the play button and lost herself to the slow hip-hop tunes of her new MP3 player.

Kitten was busy, as usual, with arms full of stacks of papers and her girl following behind with only a tiny novel. Not that the girl was being disrespectful, Kitten just refused to let Seveda carry heavy things without a reason. For one, it helped Kitten boost her strength (minimal as it was) and for another Seveda usually ended up dropping them at some point along the way.

Oh well, you want something done right you gotta do it yourself.

The destination for the two today? The Darwin Wing of course. That was...if Kitten could just remember which way she was supposed to go. Snaps. She knew the way perfectly when leaving from her lab, but from where she'd started out she just seemed too turned around to help herself.

Why weren't there others in the hall? Not that asking anyone which way the Darwin Wing was would do her any good since not many knew about it just yet, but Kitten would have felt better asking for directions.

Raven walked down the hallways of the Laboratories purposefully. Even carrying Eirinn in her arms did not slow her down in the slightest. After all, there were places to go, things to do, and working in two research facilities and teaching at one was rather draining on a woman. Even if she was a powerful, accomplished woman.

The problem with walking with such purpose was that her mind tended to block out other stimuli. Like people going in the other direction. So when she finally saw the other woman, it was too late, and she walked into her.

Eirinn was watching the hallways pass by, but when she was suddenly rammed into a person, she let out an uncharacteristically loud shriek, followed by her more usual sniffling cries. What was THAT?

Normally Kitten would have noticed the distracted woman and avoided her, especially bogged down with as many papers as she was, but today was just not turning out to be her day. Clearly. The woman had only take a short moment to turn her head and tell Seveda to catch up when she felt something rather large collide into her.

Naturally, the woman's first reaction was to drop the rather large bundle of papers; her next reaction was irritation. "Bloody f--fickle papers," she'd started before noticing Seveda's curious gaze and the woman and child before her. Cursing was not befitting of a Researcher of the Vale.

"I'm sorry," Kitten grumbled as she knelt down and began scooping papers back into her arms, shoving a few at Seveda to hold as she gathered so the other woman wouldn't have to put down the child in order to help. Kitten didn't much want any help anyway.

Such was the amount of distraction that Raven didn't even notice that she had plowed into somebody else until she heard Eirinn's scream. A moment later, she felt something hit her foot, and she looked down. There was indeed something- or rather someone- stooped there, gathering papers. She seemed apologetic, at least.

"It's alright," Raven said dismissively, offering no apology of her own. After all, if the other woman apologized it was clearly her fault. Her focus was not on the other observer much, but instead on the specimen- and of course, her own crying charge.

Whimpering, Eirinn had buried her face in her hands. Whatever was going on, it was unusual and scary and she did not like it at all.

Lifting her brows as she stood, Kitten looked inquisitively at the woman standing before her and holding her child. True, Kitten hadn't wanted to cause the woman any discomfort by asking her for help but she wasn't going to accept the woman not apologizing.

"It would be alright if you would apologize as well," she said, attempting to be sweet. She had to keep a good face for Seveda, bickering with a woman over something as silly as running into one another was really, very silly.

Seveda smiled and tried to wave at the little green girl, clucking her tongue against the back of her teeth in an attempt to get her attention. If the little girl did manage to look over at Seveda she'd flash a silly face to try and cheer her up since she seemed quite upset.

Raising her eyebrows, Raven actually looked at her fellow observer then. Did she just ask for an apology? From her? Clearly this one had some spunk after all. Raven wasn't entirely sure she liked that, especially when she went around demanding things in that soft-spoken way.

"And it would be alright if they made the hallways bigger," Raven finally replied coldly. "Now we each know what the other wants."

Still, she would have to stay on guard. If this woman was going to make things difficult for her, then something would have to be done.

Shying away from both Raven and the other lady, Eirinn responded instantly to the clicking noise, turning her head so fast that it made her hair float on end for a moment. "Mmma?"

Seveda turned too look at the woman who'd just back-talked her mother. To be truthful, the tulip girl was even less aquainted with the rules of the Vale when it came to observers, but she'd always been in the belief that those with older Vale meant more experience and thusly garnished more respect. Of course, Seveda and Kitten hadn't been around all that long and it was entirely possible that the other woman and her Vale to be far more experienced than Kitten and herself, but that was without mentioning Kitten's recent promotion.

Unlike Seveda, Kitten didn't blink a lash at the woman's harsh reaction. If the woman wasn't willing to apologize up front then it usually meant that she wasn't willing to be pleasant about much else. "I'm sorry mam, is that an official complaint? I'm pretty sure I have one of those in here, Kitten replied, trailing off as she turned to look into her stack of papers, leafing through them until she found a sheet with 'Complaints' written across the top.

Hefting the stack of paper's into Seveda's unexpecting arms, Kitten pulled the clipboard out of the stack and reached for the pen in her lab coat pocket. "So that was on request for larger hallways? Was there anything else that I could report for you? I've no doubt Miss Uenoh'ai will be pleased to learn of things the Vale can do to improve your experience here," she asked, scribbling across the paper, "Oh! And I'll need your name of course." Kitten was good, she didn't let herself leak a single drop of sarcasm into her short speech, instead she sounded like an over-excited Greenhouse Helper.

And that was exactly what causing trouble looked like. To Raven at least; to anyone else it was probably known as resolution. Not used to being put in her place, she took an involuntary step back. Apparently she had run into somebody of a higher rank than herself. It was bound to happen, but that didn't make it any better.

Raven's voice was far softer when she spoke again, but retained most of its iciness. "A suggestion, not a complaint. Another helpful tool might be to have mirrors installed at intersections, so that it is possible to see others when coming around corners."

The voices were a bit too loud for Eirinn's liking, and she began to whimper again, balling her hands into fists and placing them over her ears. There was too much discord, and even though she couldn't recognize it for what it was, she still felt uncomfortable and on the verge of crying again.

Kitten's face fell in a playful manner that showed she was clearly only joking, "A suggestion? But that's a whole different form," the woman pretended to quip before shrugging her shoulders and handing the form back to Seveda and sticking her pen back into her pocket. "No doubt, but accidents do happen despite such measures that could be taken. I'm sure Uenoh'ai will appreciate the suggestion none-the-less however so I shall mention it to her next time I meet with her."

The researcher's voice was nothing more than soft and pleasant during the exchange, so the sight of the little green girl in the woman's arms growing upset was a bit of a worry for the woman. "Is she ok?" Seveda asked before Kitten was able to ask the exact same question. "What's her name? Is she yours?" the girl continued sweetly, inching closer to the child bit by bit.

If Raven were more experienced with people, she might have given the whole situation more thought. Instead she continued on her path, voice slowly smoothing out, as though someone was pouring honey on it. "Accidents will always happen, sadly. However, I am always glad to be of assistance, miss."

Slowly letting her hands uncurl and fall away from her face, Eirinn looked up again. Her wide eyes took in everything, and also showed how green they were- startlingly similar to Raven's, though it was the only trait they shared. When she saw Seveda coming closer, a shy smile appeared on her face. She was pretty!

"I'm sure she's fine," Raven tried to assure them. "She's quite clingy. Something I'm working on, of course, but it's a challenge, and she is still young." Once she felt she had covered herself as best as possible, she looked at the other specimen. "Her name is Eirinn. And I suppose you could say she mine. My name is Pro- is Raven, and I would certainly like to know yours."

Seveda brightened considerably at the smile from Eirinn, smiling back and wiggling her fingers in another friendly wave. The teen was just so damn maternal. Kitten wondered sometimes if the tulip specimen was more of a mother than she was even as a meer teenaged girl. "What a lovely name...Eirinn. How are you little miss Eirinn?" The pink girl reached out to touch the child's nose gently.

"Oh! I'm so sorry for my rudeness! My name is Seveda, and this is my mom, Reseacher Kitten. She's incharge of the Darwin Wing. It's really cool in there, there's so many new pets and eve--" Kitten cleared her throat to cut of her daughter politely. She knew how long Seveda could go on and there were a few things the teen knew that Kitten was hoping to keep quiet for just a bit longer.

"My apologies, she can be quite a chatterbox, can't you dear?"

Giggling a little, Eirinn reached out and grabbed for Seveda's hand, but she wasn't close enough. That didn't mean that she gave up though. She wiggled and stretched out as far as she could, even kicking her legs in an attempt to get closer. It wasn't enough, but that didn't dampen Eirinn's mode or her determination.

Raven's eyes widened visibly, and then she winced- partly at the specimen (if she wasn't a specimen, what was she?) calling her Observer "mom." Partly because she apparently wasn't an Observer, but a Researcher. While Raven might have missed a few key rules when she arrived, she made sure she knew the ranks and how to address them. And even if she hadn't, the "in charge of the Darwin Wing" cleared up any confusion. The woman was in charge of a whole wing? No wonder she had leverage!

Listening to Seveda chatter demurely- she hadn't heard of the wing, but apparently it dealt with animals in some way- she then flashed a knowing smile at Kitten. "No need to apologize, Researcher Kitten. After all, children will be children."

The pink haired girl laughed softly and held her hand out for the girl to grasp or chew on or whatever it was she wanted to do. "Eirinn, Eirinn," the teen chirped softly before looking up at Raven. "May I hold her mam? I promise, I've held other babies and I'm really good with them," she said hurridly with a bright smile, ready to drop her armful of papers at just the meer thought of a positive reply.

"But of course," Kitten replied with a nod and one of those knowing nods. Seeing Seveda all too eager to hold little Eirinn, the woman reached out and grabbed the papers from the girl's arms. The last thing she needed was for the girl to go ditching the papers on the ground again. They were all so scattered already in the cluster that Kitten was going to lose valuable time resorting them.

For the first time, Raven smiled. While the Observer- or rather, Researcher- might have a few things to learn, her specimen was clearly charming and obedient. Nodding affirmatively, she handed Eirinn over, pleased to have a break from carrying the girl. She might not have been especially heavy, but Raven wasn't especially strong either.

Frozen momentarily, Eirinn panicked as she was being handed over, and tried to grab hold of Raven's labcoat. Her fingers slipped over the smooth material, and in moments she found herself in the arms of a stranger. But it was a nice stranger, and Raven was still nearby, so at least she wasn't being abandoned. Still, that didn't make her any less nervous.

Casting an awkward glance at the messy papers, Raven nodded again. "I'm sorry your paperwork spilled." It was as close as she ever got to an apology. "Is there a way I can help?"

Deep eyes glistened with excitement as she took the child into her arms, bouncing the small green child as she slipped her to her hip. "Little miss Eirinn, how are you today? Do you like to spin?" the girl cooed affectionatly as if the little girl was her very own treasure. Making sure her arms were protective about the little girl, Seveda did a small spin on the balls of her feet, nothing too fast and nothing dizzying by any means; she was only testing to see if the child enjoyed it or not, not wanting to scare her.

Kitten shook her head, waving her free hand infront of her face in a dismissive manner while she hoisted the papers onto her hip like it was her own child. "It's nothing, thank you for the apology but I really should have been watching where I was going. Me dropping a collection of boring forms and papers is nothing compared to what would happen if you'd have dropped Eirinn. I'm relieved that she's alright."

The bouncing didn't do much to reassure Eirinn, but it did distract her sufficiently. Then came the spinning, which was actually enjoyable. It wasn't too fast, but she could still feel the air moving over her face, and she extended her arms about halfway though the spin, reaching out with her fingers as if to try and grasp the wind.

Raven did not comment. What could she say that wouldn't tarnish her image in front of Researcher Kitten, but that would have some vein of truth in it? More than anything else, Raven hated being made a fool of, and in situations like these she did not know how to react, other than giving a halfhearted shrug. It was because of this that she was so comfortable in her research, working in laboratories with subjects, magical or biological, willing or less so.

The researcher only continued to smile as if there was nothing to be bothered about in the world. Honestly, one had to fall pretty far and pretty hard for her to think anything too terrible about them, and even if she disliked someone personally she would never consider letting it sink into her business, especially since her business was now the Vale. "I hope you will bring Eirinn by the Darwin Wing when it is opened more officially...I believe there was an announcement previously but I missed it completely and didn't find out until after the fact. As far as I'm aware the main area's are still closed. Either way, you're both welcome to come have a sneak peek whenever you want as long as you offer up some suggestions. I'm in charge of researching the pets so if I'm researching pets others want to know more about it does nothing but help me."

Seveda giggled as Eirinn stretched out her arms and she'd do another slow twirl, her flowing green skirts billowing and looking quite a lot like like an upside down tulip. "Little miss Eirinn enjoys that? Cutie little girl, how old are you? Cute as a button you are, hmm?" Seveda was talkative even when the person she was talking to didn't jibber right back at her.

A personal invitation? How could she resist? Smirking, Raven nodded yet again, and wondered idly when she had been turned into a bobblehead doll. "I would enjoy that. As would Eirinn, I am sure. And I believe I could come up with a few... suggestions," she continued, emphasizing that last word. "It would be a pleasure."

Though the mention of pets made Raven tense up a bit. Were the Vales all to get pets? That could prove inconvenient. There was already a slacking, useless child running around with a dragon, did she really have to deal with a child and its little pet as well?

That really was fun, and while Eirinn was getting a bit dizzy, it was, in her mind, a good thing. She liked how the girl's voice sounded too- affectionate, and more caring than the one she was used to. Wrinkling her fingers, she held out four. It was an inaccurate answer, but Eirinn didn't really understand the question.

Playfully the teen put on the most shocked face she could manage, gasping softly and wiggling one of her fingers against Eirinn's palm. "Wow! That many? What a big girl you are! I bet your mommy is so proud of you, hmm? Are you a good girl for your mommy?" Kitten tried her best to keep from rolling her eyes. Was it really necessary to be so...so gooey? Well, ok, so that's how Kitten treated babies for the most part as well, but that was completely beside the point. "I'm just glad it's not floating," she thought out-loud and instantly flushing a very deep shade of pink at her slip up.

"I'll be sure to show you only the 'soft' pet's area while Eirinn is with you of course. Not that any of the pets are terrible dangerous but they can be quite...intimidating. I wouldn't want the poor girl to be scared. Any time you'd like to visit the other areas Seveda would be more than capable and most likely more than willing to watch over your little girl. Actually, I'm sure she'd be more than willing to watch your little girl anytime you just needed time to yourself. Seveda's sort of become the Vale's head babysitter," Kitten finished proudly, watching the girl attempt to make a cute, cross-eyed fish expression at the baby.

While the words didn't make much sense to Eirinn yet, the tone was simultaniously fun and comforting. She laughed again, louder, and stuck one of her hands in her mouth. It was then that she saw a bit of Seveda's hair dangling in front of her, swaying temptingly, and she reached out with her sticky hands for it.

Cocking her head, Raven shrugged. Floating? Whatever was that supposed to mean? But she didn't ask. After all, there were some things that just didn't need to be shared. She was far more interested in the invitation, and even more in the information that came after it.

"Oh really?" How absolutely fabulous to hear! Raven's smile widened, and she made a mental note of that in rather large letters. "That is very good to know. I may have to take her up on that as well. You see, I work elsewhere as well, as a teacher, and it is difficult to balance the two."

Kitten couldn't help but laugh softly at the expression on Raven's face; it certainly wasn't a hurtful laugh, just a bit of a chuckle, the woman knew what it was like trying endlessly to find just a little bit of peace from the hectic life of taking care of a child. "Of course, Seveda just adores children, if you couldn't tell. She watches them for free, plays games, reads stories, takes naps; you know, all the good pieces of being younge thrown on in there."

Long locks of the softest pink hues were relatively well pinned back and away from her shoulders, but it wasn't until Seveda realized that it wasn't pinned far back enough that she felt a small tug and noticed the drool-laden fingers. Wrinkling her nose while poking it against Eirinn's cheek she muttered, "Oh gross Eirinn. You know, you're lucky slobber is easily washed out." Seveda tried to sound like she was being a good authority, but it really failed; her voice was just too sing-songy for its own good.

"Youshould be proud of her," Raven praised. For once, it wasn't entirely empty. While she wasn't fond of spending too much time with children herself- odd for someone in her line of work- she had something close to respect for those who could, and comraderie with those who nurtured the potential in a child. Furthermore, Seveda seemed obedient and well-behaved. Raven could only hope that Eirinn would turn out as well.

The voice changed, but it didn't sound bad. If anything, it sounded funny, and Eirinn laughed again. "Lobba," she stated, clapping her hands together, and then reaching out for Seveda's hair again.

Watching this interaction, Raven couldn't help but frown. Eirinn was a mild-tempered child, but her development was so... slow. She didn't try to form words, or to walk, or anything. "Tell me, Researcher Kitten, how was Miss Seveda's progress growing up?"

It was probably every mother's greatest accomplishment when others complimented their children, and it was Kitten's favorite moment to hear ' you should be proud'. Proud the woman was. Kitten beamed as she watched her teen play with the child, wrinkling her nose and talking to her, the best thing to encourage learning how to talk. "Eirinn is quite sweet, you should be proud of her too. She is just a child afterall, so it's not like she can be doing cartwheels, but she is a fantastic little girl."

"Lobba? No, no lobba," Seveda replied with a sweet smile. "It's Seveda. Seh-Veh-Dah. Can you say Seveda? Can you say Sevvy? Seh-Vee," said the girl slowly so Eirinn could understand. It was really amazing how well the teen could interact with children. Kitten hoped that the girl would be as maternal with her own child when the time came.

At Raven's question the researcher lifted her head and looked over at her, lost in watching her own daughter she was. The question made Kitten's cheeks drain slightly and she'd hoped that Seveda didn't hear. Thankfully the teen was too preoccupied with teaching the green girl her name. "Uhm, well, actually I don't know. I'm sorry. Seveda came into my charge just a few months ago so I don't know how she was when she was younger," Kitten replied before lowering her voice further, "I don't...think she remembers either though."

Proud of a child? Raven wasn't sure she understood. After all, it wasn't as though Eirinn had actually learned anything yet, much to Raven's dismay. What was there to be proud of, other than the satisfaction of a job well done? When she actually did make progress, she could be proud of it. Until then, she would have to keep at it.

More interesting were Researcher Kitten's next comments, and Raven nodded knowingly. "Yes, it is my understanding that there are several specimens who had to change hands, Eirinn among them. Somewhat distressing, however if they couldn't keep up, it's better to move on."

Sevvy? What was a sevvy? Eirinn wrinkled her nose. "Vesy?" she tried, hoping to parrot the other girl. But it was no use, she'd mixed it up. It sounded funny to Eirinn though, and she giggled. "Vesy!"

Seveda puckered heer lips cutely at Eirinn at the, well, could you call it a nickname? "Vesy? What's a Vesy? Try again. Sssssss eh veeeeee," she said, stressing each syllable so the girl could easily follow along. Of course 'easy' carried a different definition between a teen and a child, but Seveda was making it as easy as she thought she could make it. Lifing a finger she poked Eirinn's nose lightly, "And you, little miss, you are Eirinn. Can you say Eirinn?"

The researcher's shoulders shifted into a slight shrug and she sighed. "Indeed it is better to move on, but my heart aches when I think of the trouble Seveda is going through. She's one of the oldest in the complex I'm lead to believe and so when she sees children, learning and growing and making memories with people they hope to know for the rest of their lives, her expression grows sad beyond belief. She knows she's missing everything that they enjoy. Perhaps it's why she takes to children so well. I think she's trying to remember." Kitten didn't know much else to say. Instead she looked down at the papers in her hands and quickly took her pen from her pocket to scribble something down on some form she'd just realized was filled out improperly.

Was this a new game? Eirinn clapped her hands again, and tried out the word. "Sssseeeehh..." That part was easy. But the other part was harder, and suddenly Eirinn was having trouble with the "v" sound. "Sssseh... fi! Ssefi!"

"Remember the past? Whatever for?" Blunt, perhaps, but there was no point in languishing over lost time. Raven had to learn that lesson the hard way. "One can learn from the past, certainly, but knowing when to move forward proactively is key. It least it seems that Miss Seveda is doing that." As was Raven, in her own way. She brushed back an errant strand of hair, and glanced over again. Not a bad child, as children went.

Wrinkling her nose the woman shook her head and laughed softly at the girl. "Sefi? I'm Sefi now?" The teen shrugged. It was closer than the other names the child had tried and she was clearly progressing so Seveda was pleased. "Mama, I taught her my name!" the girl called out to Kitten with a bright expression of pride. "Well, as close to my name as I think she will get. I thin she's having trouble with the v sound."

"Oh my yes, Seveda does not dwell on the past. But I think that unless you have no memories you cannot speak so freely about how to deal with it. I don't believe Seveda to be so obsessed with learning her past that she thinks of nothing else, but I do believe that when she is alone and there is nothing to think of her mind wanders to it. Her recent meeting with Assistant Uenoh'ai seems to have shaken her, but she doesn't want to show it." At the sound of her name being called the gray-haired woman turned to look at Seveda with a warm smile and a nod. "That's great to hear Seveda."

When she heard Seveda's claim, Raven turned outright and stared at the two girls. "What was that? Are you sure she said something real, not just babbling?" That was more than she had done in Raven's presence. Perhaps some socialization was doing the child good. If that was the case, then that would have to be taken into account, though Raven wasn't sure how to arrange for that yet. "Very interesting..."

"Ssefi!" Eirinn repeated, having more fun each time. Was she doing it right? Perhaps not, but she didn't especially care. At the very least, the pink girl seemed to be having fun as well, and that was all that mattered.

"She will manage." That Raven didn't doubt at all. While the children she liked were few and far between, and at the time did not include the ones in her care, she did have her favorites, her "teachers pets" that she came to grow fond of, in her own way, and Seveda showed traits that Raven approved of. "And I'm sure you will help, will you not, Researcher Kitten?"

There may have been a trace of scorn in Raven's voice at the end, but her face remained as unemotional as ever.

Kitten picked up on more things than people usually gave her credit for, and she did note the tonal change in the woman's voice. As before however, Kitten didn't bother trying to call the woman out on it. What wou'd be the point? Nothing. She'd probably just end up making an enemy of Raven and that was much farther down on her list in comparrison to over-looking a tone. "I will help my daughter with anyhing she requests of me. If she does not ask for my help then I will not interfere. Seveda's life is her own and although I call her my daughter and she calls me mom, I cannot presume to claim control over her. She knows she has my support if she just ask."

"Ask about what mama?" the girl asked as she moved over to the two women, snuggling Eirinn affectionatly. After every time the little girl said Sefi Seveda would reply with Sevvy. Far as she was aware, repetition was a great way to learn new things. That's how Kitten taught the pink teen her studies. Seveda was sure that the little girl was making a concerned effort at saying the teen's name. It was too much of a coincidence to be catching onto Sefi when she was trying to learn a word so close to it.

Nodding noncommittally, Raven eyed Eirinn carefully. "I must say, you seem to be getting along well," she commented. "Both of you."

"Ssefi!" chirped Eirinn, clenching her sticky fingers into a fist. "Sssa."

"Very interesting," Raven repeated, thinking to herself. "Miss Seveda, I wonder if you would like to spend more time with Eirinn, perhaps on a scheduled basis." Her mind was racing. If the girl really was interested, maybe she would finally get back to work.

"Vee. Sevee," the teen coached slowly and carefully, trying to stress her mouth movements in the way she pressed her upper teeth against her lower lip and made the humming sound that is the beginning of most v-sounds. She was cut short in the middle of her teaching though when she heard Raven's request.

"Really? I could? Seveda looked over at Kitten to make sure it was ok, but the guardian just shrugged. It was Seveda's time, she could do with it what she wanted. Why bother restricing the interaction; Seveda was having fun and Kitten didn't have to do anything. Actually, it provided a lot of research information about her specimen. "I would love to Miss Raven! She's such a sweetheart and she picks up on things so fast!"

While Eirinn had no idea what was going on, she could tell that people were happy. And that made her happy, and when she was happy she squirmed, just a little, trying to exercise her stiff muscles. "Sseffifi!"

Raven smiled. "In fact, it would be a big help to me if you could, sometimes. I can't watch her all the time, you see, not like this. I have a job outside, and I couldn't possibly take her with me. But if a smart girl like you would want to help- and you would be compensated, if you like- then I think everyone would enjoy it."

Mostly herself, but she couldn't say that. And if the girl wanted to take care of children, all the better.

Seveda laughed and bent over to let the child down. She'd been holding the girl for a while and her arms were growing tired. A squirming little girl would not do well to be in the arms of someone too weak. Carefully she watched to make sure if the girl could stand or not, her hands holding onto Eirinn's. Even if the girl couldn't walk, Seveda would make sure she wasn't about to fall over like a sack of potatos.

"I don't mind at all. I love to spend time with children, and from the other children I've met Eirinn is just the sweetest little girl." Not to say that the other children she'd met had been horrible, but Eury was just so...reserved and Opuntia played his little tricks on her. She adored both of them, but she adored a happy, open child just a bit more.

Kitten lifted her brows at her girl's responce, "Seveda, I think it would be better to phrase your words more carefully. I know what you mean but you don't want to say something like that to someone who doesn't understand."

At first, Eirinn was confused. Why was the pink lady putting her down? Did she not like her anymore? The balls of Eirinn's feet touched the ground, where they swayed for a moment, but it was clear that the toddler couldn't carry her own weight quite yet. It was only because Seveda was holding her that she hadn't falled yet.

"Wonderful," Raven murmured, ignoring the comment about Eirinn. If Seveda thought she was sweet, fine. But her opinions were not quite settled on that matter yet.

Glancing at her precariously balanced specimen, she added "Eirinn isn't quite walking yet. Soon, I hope." Carrying the girl everywhere was exhausting.

Seveda giggled and lifted Eirinn up by her arms just slightly to put the girl's tiny little feet on Seveda's own dress shoe clad feet. "Now she can walk," the teen said as she took a few steps like her own little waltz with the little girl, keeping her steady by holding her hands over her head.

The gray-haired woman smiled at the two of them in their own little world. An off-handed glance at her watch made her eyes widden a bit and she gave an apologetic look over at Raven. "I'm sorry Miss Raven but I really must get this work done for the Darwin Wing. If you would like to join me then you are more than welcome. Of course we're all busy here so I am sure you had your own agenda."

Teetering around was not nearly as fun as the parroting game. While she liked being on the ground, something that Raven rarely let her do, Eirinn felt like her arms were going to be pulled out. Tears welled up un her eyes, and she let out a shriek.

Hoping to avert a messy tantrum, Raven swooped down and picked Eirinn up again. "Maybe she'll catch up to you, soon enough," she said calmly. "And of course, Researcher Kitten, I understand. I have work to attend to as well. I am sure we will see each other again soon."

With that as her goodbye, Raven set off down the hallway again, her mind already on what she might do with connections such as these. Embarrasing or not, it had been a very beneficial meeting, for both parties, perhaps.

Peeking over Raven's shoulder, Eirinn waved one hand at Seveda. "Bah-ba!"

A woman ran into me in the hall earlier today. I didn't really mind, but she didn't even apologize to me! I asked for an apology and she just sort of shrugged me off. Seveda and I played a double-team on her though and I think we put her in her place. It helped that I had just been promoted I suppose, but even if I hadn't been I'm not interested in people with bad manners back-talking me infront of my child.

Despite my initial impression, I don't think the woman is too terrible. She's clearly concerned for her Vale, but I don't think she is concerned for the girl the way a mother should be concerned for her. If I'm not mistaken, the woman looked like she was more interested in a prodigy child instead of the one she had. I tried to tell her that her daughter Eirinn was quite delightful and she should be proud of how well behaved the little girl was, but my words didn't much seem to matter.

I think Seveda really got along well with the child. I'm so proud of how she handles everything. Seveda is probably the most social teenager I've ever met and her maternal instincts are all right on tabs. If I had another child I would leave them in Seveda's care at all times because I think Seveda might be a better mother than I am!

I hope to start teaching Seveda Japanese soon. I hope she'll take well to it like I did. The language is hard but with dedication I'm sure she'll do well. I've told her that when she learns Japanese she'll be able to choose her own language to learn if she likes, though I actually hope she'll take up an instrument instead.

Seveda was visiting her favorite haunt, a damp corner of the green house where sun often had trouble visiting due to the way it was set to the side and away from the glass that trapped in the warming rays. The corner was sweet and Seveda personally had plans to move in a few things in order to bring it to its optimal comfort level. An oversized chair and a little table with a light would be perfect to curl up into and spend hours reading since the spot was just a tad cooler than the rest of the green house. Unfortunatly for Seveda, this little plan wasn't quite possible at the moment for she first had to ask whoever was in charge if it would be ok for her to do such a thing. At the moment, all she had was a floor and the light of the sun to illuminate her book, but that was more than enough for the girl who was now deep within her new book.

Kitten watched from the side, a small glass container in hr hands. She sighed slightly. Seveda was so secluded all the time. Sure, she was open and friendly with people when the first met, but where were these people now? Why did she spend day after day with a book in her hands and her face in that book? Why wasn't she out there making new friends, confiding in people, doing something or anything that would be normal for a teenage girl. But Kitten knew. Seveda was not a normal teenage girl. Perhaps if Kitten had the ability to bring Seveda up out in the real world it would be a different story, but as it was, Seveda was more like a caged animal and at least she was a calmly caged animal. Things could have been worse. But that was why Kitten had brought Seveda something new to see.

Stepping forward, Kitten cleared her throat and smiled at her girl when she looked up from her book. "I've brought you a present," the woman said cheerfully, holding out the jar that started to glow a toxic green before the light dimmed down and one could see a small glow-bug settled at the bottom of the glass. "What is it?" Seveda asked without interest, reaching out to take the glass from Kitten and plave it atop her open book to look at it. "Well, it's name is exactly what it is. It's a glow-bug. I mean, there are other names for it, but really all you need to know is that it's a glow-bug. What would you like to name him?" she asked with a smile that was loosing a bit of its warmth. Apparently Kitten had chosen a bad day to present her daughter with a pet.

"I'll name it Qavoil," she said simply before putting the bug on the ground beside her and picking her book back up. The conversation was over as far as Seveda was concerned, she had things to read, such as what would happen to the main character of her current book, Qavoil.
