Hienna was startled at the cold tone of her mate's voice and she most definitely noticed the sudden tenseness. And what did Guilian mean it should be obvious what he was doing? Wasn't he just talking? But that didn't sound like that was what he was doing by the tone in his voice. After all, why would it be bothersome if her mate came....oh.
"N..no, he didn't...I don't think...I mean his wing touched my leg earlier but that was an accident." Oh, yes, innocent. "We were just talking." At least that's what Hienna thought.
Why was Zaphiro so upset? Slowly she stood up and tilted her head, "Are YOU okay, Zaphiro?"

Ok, it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Guilian may have been up to his old tricks, but he hadn't gotten very far. That meant he didn't have to kill him. As soon as Hienna was standing, Zaphiro had his wings around her in a close hug, pressing his cheek gently against hers. "I'm fine as long as you're fine, Hie."
Watching this little tableaux, Guilian's first, most basic of reactions was acute disapointment. Even the most untried of youths would have been able to divine the meaning in the actions of both Zaphiro and Hienna, and he was far from being an untried youth. And if they were involved...that meant he wouldn't get to be experiencing Hienna's sweetness for himself, sadly.
But once the initial disappointment had worn off, Guilian's grin was back, even wider than before. And why not?
Giving the two a moment, Guilian finally broke in. "Zaphiro, my dear friend, I had no IDEA that the two of you were lovers! You know the way I operate, and had I known she was involved with you I would never have even attempted to make a move on her. My congratulations to you, though, and my sincerest apologies for not realizing. Those go to you as well, Chica...but please don't hold it against me too much. I merely have an eye for the ladies, and you are a rose among the daisies."

Hienna leaned against her mate and smiled a little. It was nice to be so cared about, "I'm fine, love, I promise." She sighed softly and nosed him before turning her head over to Guilian.
So he was trying...? And did he just compliment her appearance? While that likely worked on most mares, it simply irritated the unicorn and Zaphiro would definitely feel her tense up at the compliment.
"I assure you," she said softly, "I'm very much a daisy. A rose stands out in the crowd and can be said to be vain - it knows that is far more beautiful than most flowers. However, in the mundane I find more beauty and I would rather have a mundane beauty than a vain one."
It probably made no sense to anyone but her - and POSSIBLY Zaphiro. However, that comment was the closest that Hienna had come to being rude in her entire life.

Hienna's words, rude as they might seem to her, only served to make Guilian laugh and give Zaphiro a rueful look. "Such a spirited one she is, so much fire beneath that cool exterior! I envy you beyond what words can express, my friend. And you might think you're a daisy, Chica, but no matter how much you deny it you are a rose."
Zaphiro was far from mollified; even though he knew Guilian was pleased for him and even being complimentary in his own way, it was only serving to remind Zaph EXACTLY what he hated about that particular herdmate.
Still holding Hienna against him, Zaphiro didn't even turn to face Guilian before he spoke. "Guilian, I suggest you leave. Now, before you insult my lifemate or myself anymore than you already have." He didn't turn or raise his voice at all, but the exact same level of cold fury was in his voice as before, perhaps a little more now that he could feel how tense Hienna was. "Otherwise-"
However, Guilian could understand. After all, that was why he was out himself tonight, right? So he was swift to cut in on the blue stallion's words. "-No worries, friend; I will leave the two of you to your trysting, and set my sights elsewhere. Until such a time as we meet again!"
And then, laughing, the red stallion was winging his way skywards, a red spot against the darkened sky.

His insistence that she was a rose caused her tail to twitch lightly and she was so very thankful when Zaphiro asked him to leave and he did. Hienna had thought his conversation had been pleasant, at first, but now she was simply annoyed.
Even him leaving didn't quite relax the unicorn and she took a deep, steadying breath. "Thank you, Zaphiro...I...I'm not a rose, am I?" She lifted her head to look up at him, her tail still twitching irately.

Head tilted upwards, Zaphiro didn't look away from the departing Guilian until he couldn't even make out even the faintest traces of red. Nevermind what he said, there was simply no way he'd EVER trust that stallion, and especially not around his mate!
However, Hienna's soft question rapidly brought his attention back to his mate; meeting her eyes with his, Zaphiro gave her a gentle smile and caress with his wingtip. "Hienna, you're always going to be my lily; graceful, beautiful, and unassuming. And for the record, it's simply best to discount Guilian. He's...hardly the type to dwell on." To put it mildly. "Rather, he's the type to completely shut out."

That made her smile. A lily. She liked that, quite a bit. Hienna leaned up and pressed her nose gently against his, "Thank you, Zaphiro. And as for Guilian...We had a pleasant conversation until..." she frowned a bit.
At least he was gone. "But let's not dwell. What were you saying about the bedding, love?" Hienna hoped he found some. She was tired.

Nosing at her chin, Zaphiro only had one more thing to say on that subject. "Don't worry about it, Love. And as a matter of fact, not only did I find bedding, but a whole new place to bed down. You'll love it; a little clearing, totally covered in the most gorgeous, soft heather imaginable...
And then he was leading her off through the trees, off towards the new clearing.

She followed him without protest, "It sounds lovely, Zaphiro. I'm sure I'll love it. Doesn't happen to have a cave nearby, hmm?" It would be absolutely a miracle if there was. If it was as nice as he said it'd make a nice little spot.

"Not that I noticed, but I wasn't exactly looking for one. It's sort of dark, after all."
And indeed it was; luckily it was a clear, starry night; otherwise the cross-woods jaunt could have been much more unpleasant. As it was, the trees stuck out starkly in the moonlight, more like skeletons than anything else. A wee bit unsettling...
But the end result was worth it, as he finally led his mate up to the miniature meadow. "What do you think?"

The trek to the clearing was indeed a bit unsettling but she just stuck close to her mate and when she got there her eyes widened.
"Oh..Zaphy, it's lovely!" She let the nickname slip without a second thought and then blushed deeply, "I mean, Zaphiro. I'm sorry." As comfortable as she was with him she had absolutely no idea how he'd respond to a nickname that was so silly.

...Zaphy?
As a matter of fact, the nickname was hardly a novel one; when he was young, his friends had called him that, and even his parents; nowadays, a couple of his herdmates persisted in calling him 'Zaphy-boy'.
But hearing Hienna call him that was a bit different; it provoked a blank stare for a few moments, then a low, long chuckle. "Zaphy? I'll take that as an endearment, I suppose, because if it was supposed to be an insult you missed your mark."
Still chuckling, he waded out into the heather (which rose almost high enough to touch his stomach, then turned to smile at Hienna. "And if you think it LOOKS nice, you should try lying in it!" Which he immeadiately did, vanished down into the heather.

"It wasn't an insult, I promise." She flopped down with him and giggled a little bit. It was a nice little hideaway wasn't it? Nobody could see them and it was as if they were in their own private little world.
"Oh this is wonderful. Zaphiro, this is absolutely wonderful." She could lay there forever. Hienna leaned in and nuzzled into her mate's neck and gave a light sigh.
"Could stay here forever."

Snaking a wing around his mate as he was in the habit of doing, Zaphiro gently lipped at her mane with a smile. "If we stayed here forever, we'd never find that cave you so have your heart set on, and then where would we be?"
Well, literally they'd be in a field of heather, but that was beside the point.
"Besides, we'd undoubtable get bored eventually."

Hienna smirked lightly, "Oh, I don't know, I could think of one very special thing that could occupy our attention for some time." When had SHE ever gotten so forward? A few days with Zaphiro and not worrying if she said the wrong thing or not did wonders for her.
"But you're right. We'll start looking again tomorrow. For now, we can pretend we have forever here."
