I prefer the darker style his vocals presented in Tool, though I can't say I prefer a particular album style. The range he presents in them (Ticks and Leeches, say, where when he performed it live, he threw out his voice for three weeks) to the softer, calmer Wings for Marie.
I will say that A Perfect circle has more harmony, more melody, and his voice is a lot softer than Tool, and his range seems to be slightly (SLIGHTLY) larger in his APC albums than his Tool albums, I nevertheless prefer Tool. The slightly coarser, more primal undertones and beats, mixed with the variation of musical intruments appeal to me.
And I all around just don't care for Puscifer. Sue me. -_-
Now, when I say APC has a larger range than Tool, I'm not just picking the heaviest, roughest song and the softest, most melodious song, I'm referring to the all around consistency of the range, and how a lot of the songs that he sings for APC have broad ranges.
My vote? Tool, definitely.

I personally prefer A Perfect Circle to either Tool or Puscifer (both of which are amazing, but that's a fruit's opinion) because of the voice you hear from Maynard. I really hope he can still do it, because it fits his vocal style, as well as the more acessible sound of APC perfectly. With Tool and Puscifer (lol I almost typed "Puscifert") his more famous voice fits better to the tribal, more intricately structured thinking metalhead's sound of Tool, and the more poppy, disco dance floor sound of Puscifer. It all sounds almost perfect, but there's a reason now why they called the band "A Perfect Circle."
Thank you, good nite.
