I have to say you are all right about dime bag (over rated), but me bieng a bass player I love Cliff Burton, and although not my favorite bassist, a very good one. Not over rated at all. (everone else is just under rated 3nodding )

I'm a yey-sayer for it as well... I think Pantera was a fun band.. and I liked the Reinventing the Steel album... but Dimebag is way more praised than he should be...

k...heres my viewpoint...

pantera was a fun band, not the greatest band ever, but fun. dime didnt suck, but he did get more attention than was perhaps called for.

early metallica, again, wasnt the best, but they were fun. really, after cliff died they started their downward spiral. he may not have been the greatest bass player, but again, he didnt suck.

yes there are better players than both cliff and dime, but that doesnt mean you hafta go around saying they blew. yeah, its a sad thing that people like chuck schuldiner aren't remembered, but that doesnt make it any less sad that dime's gone. while i agree with shade that its sad that dime and cliff get all the attention, while i agree that others should be noticed, it isnt gonna stop me from wearing my dimebag RIP shirt. because its sad that someone had to die, especially in front of an audience, before he even reached his fortieth brithday. yeah, i know chuck and everyone else was young too. its sad they all had to die. i try to respect them all, especially the underrated ones...but just cuz theyre underrated and dont/didnt get enough attention doesnt mean im gonna stop respecting guys who may have been less talented but were still pretty good...

You pretty much summed up everything I was going to write.

And how come no one ever takes time to remember dead drummers? R.I.P. Krzysztof 'Doc' Raczkowski

And to follow up one the sub-discussion of Tyr, Eric the Red is my favorite album. I love Ragnarok, especially Rage of the Skullgaffer and Wings of Time. But I have to say Eric the Red is one of my favorite albums of all time. I love the large amount of traditional Norse folk song influence.

You take a mortal man.

I don't care if they're alive or dead, aslong as they make good metal.

And put him in control.

Dime didn't suck. He is most likely better at playing than you are, so show a little respect man.

What if he doesn't have any interest in playing the guitar? Being better than someone doesn't mean you're any good.

Yeah, because a good guitarist plays the same chords throughout a four and a half minute song. Christ, the only good song Pantera had was Cemetary Gates. Everything else sucked. Dimebag is one of not only the worst guitarists, but one of the most repetitive.

guitarists, or METAL guitarists?

because drag the waters was a LOT less repetetive than a lot of non metal stuff...the ramones, chuck berry, bob dylan - all are great, but all are also simple musically...and fairly repetetive.

In fact I think I can play way better than him. But I'm not having that discussion, at least not with you.

I'd hate any undeserved respect so much, that if people respected me because I was dead rather than they respected me for the great things I did(if I did any), I'd come back to life just to kill all the ******** who did so. That's why I don't pay any respects to Doushebag, because since I couldn't take any undeserved respect, I won't give any undeserved respect to someone else(Dimebag in our case).
