Alex stared at the yellow and blue card. What use is one card?? the thought floated through his head. He wasn't even entirely sure how he go the card.
He had seen a large crowd of people around a shop, the shop didn't look like much but the people sure seemed to think it did. "Scuse me coming through," Alex shoved his way through the crowd, his curiosity pulling him closer. It seemed the people were getting all worked up about... cards?
There seemed to be some kind of card game going on or something. Alex only got a quick glance at the set up when someone shoved him rather hard. "Hey!" Alex said, his glasses falling off his nose onto the table. He scrambled frantically patting at the table, the entire world a blur. Alex didn't really mind the part about not being able to see without his glasses on, it's how he looked without his glasses on. He had tried contacts once but found his eyes excessivly large without the shrinking effect of his glasses. On his already girlish face he found the effect quite undesireable.
"Would you like a card?" the voice seemed to raise itself above the crowd's noise without sounding loud at all.
"What? Oh, yes, whatever," Alex said, hardly glancing up at the blurry red-orange figure he figured must be speaking.
"Then pick up the deck and then drop it again. Then pick the top card," the red and orange figure said again. Alex distractidly followed the directions, hoping they would get him out of the crowd faster once he was done finding his glasses, as people seemed to give him room to watch him draw the card.
"Thank you," the smooth voice said as Alex pocket the card.
"Err, welcome," Alex replyed just as he found his glasses. Without even looking up to see who he had been talking to (whoever it was had seen him without his glasses, how embaressing!) Alex shoved the money he owed and struggled back out through the crowd. He turned for home and walked away leaving the noisy store behind.
Now that Alex thought back about the expirience, it seemed very wierd. Why were all those people clambering around to get thier hands on one card? You couldn't even play a game with one card. Unless the game was.. burn the card or something. Alex shook the thought out of his head. He felt compeled to keep this card for some reason, worthless as it was at this point. Five of diamonds huh? He tossed the card on his bedside table. "You're yellow and blue to ohuh? Just like Xander used to wear.... I guess I'll call you Xander my little lonely friend. Not like a cards name means anything..."
