Those winter eyes met his again and danced with the faint light of hopefulness. So unique. Again she thought of him as a prince among wolves, though he may not think of himself so. Her tail brushed the twinkling snowpack in the starlight as she swayed it thoughtfully, knowing that she should answer him with the truth whatever it might mean for herself. Ah how she knew the moment between question and answer would torment her. Waiting was a woe beyond measure at times.
"I wonder.." She began in a soft, musing voice, and turned her eyes to meet a gust of southwind. "Winter in spring is not meant to last, Shining Star. Tomorrow the winds tell me it will be time to withdraw to the high plains, mountains where rain in the vally is snow upon the peaks. Heat I cannot bear, it withers me unkindly." The fluffy white ears drooped a little further, and she turned back to him.
A great lash it would be if she could not look upon him again until next winter. How spring was cruel. She felt she must bring herself to finish her thoughts or risk such a wound either way. "Will you come with me?" There, her heart lay upon the snow for the taking or the casting aside. Such was a thing Livia did not easily bring herself to do, and hoped against hope that it would not be a folly.

His body stilled as he sensed her gathering herself to some great truth, so far unshared. When she turned away in a struggle for her words, he gave her that space willingly, trusting that she would tell him when she was ready, and in her own way.
His ears swiveled to catch the wind's whisper for himself. It did not speak to him as it must to her, but it was indeed warmer than the chill breeze before sunset. It had stopped snowing long ago, it occured to him. Perhaps... perhaps it wasn't the sunset that would steal her away, but the melting of the snow? His eyes grew wide with worry, and his breath caught in his throat. Tomorrow was when she would be gone forever? The very idea had him trembling.
But as she met his eyes and softly spoke the question she needed the answer to, his heart positively stopped in his chest. He gasped for air in a few strangled huffs, then literally fell at her feet. "Dear Winter Eyes, your bidding is my honor! That you would want me by your side as you return home humbles me, and brings joy to my heart." Still crumpled at her paws, he raised his nose to gaze adoringly up at her. "Of course I will come with you, to the ends of the earth, if it is me you wish to accompany you."

A lovely blend of emotions swept over the icy female. She was absolutely exubirant to know he would come with her, and by doing so had no ties elsewhere. His dramatic fall to her feet had her taken aback and flattered at the same time, such that she blushed visibly beneath her fur for the first time in a long time. The whole situation seemed to melt the cold shoulder she might have otherwise turned, since she was well prepared for him to reject her proposition.
But most of all it was joy! Livia leaped to her feet, tail swaying this way and that madly, and could have licked his muzzle in her happiness. She nearly did this, but some measure kept her from it. A first meeting was not the time perhaps. He could follow her to the peaks where she could come to know him, and she might open up to him. The female's mind was flooded with thoughts such as these, knowing she would not walk a cold night alone again, but the night would walk with her.
"Then come with me, Shining Star! The snow will wash away to water by morning, and with it goes me. Up, up, away we go!" She dashed around him in a quick circle, bounding like an energetic pup, and began to streak off toward the mountains like a shot. The walking ice paused only every so often, not as worried about him following now. Night had a way of keeping his promises.

It delighted him to see her pale cheeks glow as she blushed at his declaration to follow her devotedly. He had meant it, and loved how she took him at his word. His tongue lolled out happily in a fast pant of excitement as she darted around him enthusiastically. He had made her happy! Him! It made him feel like singing his joy to the world.
Thus, when she charged off towards the higher ground, he too keapt to his feet with an energized yelp. In the blink of an eye, he was bounding after her, every step leading him onwards to a new place, a new territory, and perhaps... just maybe... a new love? The idea sent shivers down his spine, his eyes wide to the now starry sky and the stunning image of the she-wolf flashing through the snow, a piece of the winter come to life to steal his heart. Willingly he followed her, ever higher, to discover what life was like for this lovely winter wolf.
Overjoyed, he threw back his head and howled, leaping beneath the welcoming night sky after his Winter Eyes.
