Although I found this very useful, you might want to start super basic with like pronunciation and things for those just starting. I don't know how easy you want to start though.

Mh... Yes , you're right. Although it's quite tough to explain the french pronunciation x'D

I actually have books that explain French pronunciation rules. Sometimes those are harder for native speakers to get because said natives have accents. I've never heard a French person without any accent. mad D
So if you'd like help, I could outline the rules for you.

That would be awesome <3
Especially since I wouldn't be able to explain french phonetically using english sounds xD

Yeah they are really quite similar. 3nodding I was going to take Spanish in high school but my friends said it'll be much too easy since I've taken French already. So now I'm just continuing in a Gifted French class. whee

Lol XD I was fearing that it may be a bit complicated surprised
I didn't know for the tenses...
Anyways, it's not surprising, latin roots in common ;]
The main difference between French and the other Romance languages , I think, is the Greek roots [like... 30/40 % of the french words come from the greek ] surprised

Quite few actually surprised
If you go that way , there's also arabic, spanish, english influences ;]
But the main are latin [ at least 50 % ] and greek [ 35% let's say xD ]

Check at étymologie [ I give the french page, because the english one doesn't even mention it XD]

The influences aren't really in the words themselves. It's the pronunciation of those words. mad D

Yep. mad D

Sorry that I'm taking so long to get a good pronunciation guide. I'd forgotten how many rules there were, and it's difficult to assemble everything into a coherent whole.

You did an awesome job! Very clear and concise. I haven't read through of all of it yet, however I would like to suggest a part on Idioms.

I do not want to be out of my place, however got a couple of suggestions that maybe helpful. I know these things helped me a lot.

I know there are sites online which have pronunciation of some basic things which might be useful for anyone who wants to know how something sounds. About.com is a useful one.

Also, some other sites of interest, if anyone is interested,is wordreference.com (online french dictionary-it has quite a few idioms) and verbix.com (which does verb conjugations)
