Mad Madam Mimm

Harriett sat on a blanket, outsie a shop, her legs outstretched. She tapped thoughtfully on a set of bongo drums she'd had at the childrens home. The wind ruffled her hair and she began to tap to a stronger rhythm. Morodin sat watching her, his pale blue eyes almost thoughtful Then He started to twitch his tail. He started to hop, from left to right, almost... in fact, he was... dancing! Harriett laughed in amazement. She carried on tapping, then stood up and danced with the cat. He put his paws on her legs, and they danced a strange rumba as she tapped away. Passers by stopped, looked and laughed. Some even threw coins at their feet. They played and danced for a while, and when they stopped, Harriett counted the coins.
They had earned enough to keep them both fed for the rest of the week. She scratched Morodin under the chin, and began to pack things back into her bag.
"You're welcome."
Who... She looked at the cat. No, it cant be... can it?

"I'm sorry. Am I in your way?"
Kai's eyes widened when she turned to look at him. He hadn't noticed the injury on her knee. He looked her over. She didnt' look that strange to him but then, Lucille always told him he was a strange boy. He quietly shook his head at her.
You're not in the way at all. I wonder if you're alright. You look so sad. He looked down at the bread in his hand. He really wasn't hungry. He held it out to her.
Please take it. I've got a roof over my head and warm food waiting for me when I get back.
He attempted to smile at her but he wasn't sure the attempt went over very well.

Emile looked at the loaf. She was hungry. She took it and smiled again. "Thank you." she said softly. "My name's Emile. What's yours?" she asked. Her voice was still soft, but she tried to get this boy to talk to her.

Areailla shook her head as she floated down, unnoticed in the 'bad' part of town. She stared up at the apartment complex.
"Greg. It's been a while."
Lifting her robes, she crossed the street and began to mount the stairs.
"I know you can hear me. You always could even when you didn't want to. I don't care if you wish to speak to me or not. It's happening again. The wind whispered it to me. Already three have appeared."
She finished mounting the stairs and waited for him to open the door. She didn't knock. She knew it wasn't needed.

"My name's Emile. What's yours?"
He smiled back at her, a more natural one this time.
"Kai."
His voice was little more than a whisper but he was sure she could hear him. He looked at her injured knee again.
Maybe I can help.
He walked a little ways away from her to an outside fresh water faucet he had used as his source of water while on the streets. He slipped out of his overshirt then shed his undershirt and put the warmer one back on. He carefully ripped the little shirt in two then wet one part and carried them both back. He cautiously sat down beside her. He would have to talk again.
"May I?"

Emile nodded. She rolled down the blood soaked stocking. "I'd appriciate if you did." She looked at Kai and smiled. "Kai. That's a nice name." She closed her eyes as he placed the rag on her wound. It still hurt a little.

Gregory reclined on the natty old sofa, that had come with the appartment.
"Areallia. Been a long time." He sipped athis beer, and looked at her. "I'd offer you a seat, but this is the only one i've got."
He crossed to the fridge, and looked inside.

Narrative

Gregory had known she was coming. He'd seen it. Heard it, rather. But he didn't care. He'd survived, he thought, so could these new ones. As Gregory and Areallia settled down and talked, the "new ones" went unawares. Kai was called back to his carer's shop, and so was forced to leave Emile. Her knee felt better now, so she decided to go and find a place to rest after her journey. Harriett and Morodin continued walkin, doing their dancing act, till they earned enough money to rent a room at a small Bed&Breakfast.

((Eh, he needs to show a spark of power I guess.))

Kai blushed lightly at the praise and gently set about cleaning her wound. He was trying not to touch the injured flesh but couldn't help but brush it every now and then. He found himself wishing that the damp little cloth could heal people.
He gasped lightly when a sharp spark of something shocked his fingers and looked down to see what it was. The wound... it had been bleeding and open and quite a mess before and now it was completely closed and looked as if it was a week old at least.
He made a strangled noise in his throat that was his attempt at screaming and leapt back from her as if she was on fire.
He raised his hands and just stared at them, shaking.

Kai, after this strange incidence, ran back to his carers shop, hoping the girl hadn't noticed. He couldn't think clearly after this shock.

Emile fell back in the abandoned room she'd found. "For the night this will do I suppose." she opened her suitcase and pulled out a nightgown. She had eaten the loaf Kai had given her, but she was still hungry. "I wonder why he wasn't scared of me? Not that it bothered me. It was nice that someone didn't run off screaming in terror this time."
PostPosted: Wed Mar 14, 2007 1:39 pm

Kai didn't hear the girl. He was too busy running.
What happened? Was that me?
He shook from head to toe as he re-entered the shop.

Lucille looked up from her work.
"Oh good. You're back record time too. Did you... Kai? Land sakes child you look paler than a ghost! What happened?"
She hurried over to the child.

Kai just shook his head, his eyes still wide in terror and began to cry. He was terrified.
Lucille tried to comfort the child, her face pinched in confusion. What in the world could have happened to him?

Kai nestled a little deeper into Lucille's chest. It was moments like these when he really loved his caretaker. He had stopped crying quite so hard and now his panic attack was reduced to mere sniffles, hiccups and whimpers. He closed his aching eyes and listened to the soft lulaby she sang to him in her slightly out of tune voice. He decided to try to forget about the strange event and pretend it had never happened.
Yes, that's what he'd do. If Lucille asked, and he doubted she would. Even after living with her for so long all she had were vague hints about what his life had been like before she had met him on the streets, beaten yet again. He thought she might have figured most of it out by now but wasn't sure and didn't care. He relaxed further into her arms and allowed the melody to begin to lul him to sleep.

"So..." Gregory turned his back to his guest. "What do you want? Or wait..." he laughed sarcastically. "Bet i can't guess!" He threw himself back down on the sofa, and looked at Araellia. "You know whats really funny? You know what's really freakin' hilarious? You see all these cheap, two-a-penny magic shop acts on TV, raking in the money. We actually have the skills and the powers and can't say a word for fear of exile. I mean isn't that hilarious? Isn't that spit-on-your-neck, slap-on-your-face fantastic?"
he dropped the sarcastic smile, and glared at the cieling.
"Go on then, Rae. Tell me how its my duty to do whatever the hell it is your garbled female thoughts are on about."

Areailla had wisely refused any offer of food considering the state of the apartment and immediately got to bussiness.
"What do you plan to do about the new ones? I'm told they are all just children and none have had easy lives."
She closed her eyes remembering the ones who hadn't been strong enough to bear the powers.
"I fear that these may not make it if we do not interfere. The powers mark all of us, making us almost incapable of leading normal lives, especially at first. We did have to learn the powers on our own but that's only because we were the first."
She sat and remembered how her life had been. It had been a happy life until the powers came. So happy...
