Verbena Moonsong
I did not see this! surprised

I'm Stephanie, I'm 18, from New Hampshire, and I'm an aspiring soprano. Yeah, yeah, like the rest of the world. It sucks that there are so many sopranos out there. If you're a mezzo (or a male), there are way more singing opportunities because there are fewer of you. But anyway, I love opera, and hope to have a career in it. I'm going to be majoring in Voice Performance/Pedagogy next year at Plymouth State University, but will try and transfer ASAP because they don't have a Bachelor of Music; it's only a BA. But they have an excellent music program nonetheless. smile I like pretty much any type of music; I don't usually go for rap or country but there are a few of each of those that I enjoy. Favorite composers include Puccini, Chopin, Palestrina, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Wagner, Mendelssohn, Holst, Faure, Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert (or as I like to call them, the Shoes)... Name a composer, I probably like at least one thing he or she wrote... although that gets less likely as we head further into the 20th century. xd If something is atonal, I like it to make SOME sense.
I've been playing the piano since age 4, but it's not my main passion. I have perfect pitch, which makes sightsinging a breeze, but sightreading on piano a pain in the a**.
Rehm and I (And DNBMathGuy, who isn't exactly in the guild, but whatever) are currently working on a jazz trio so we can go gigging around various restaurants and such. 3nodding Should be fun.

edit: I also love film editing and I want to make a movie trailer someday. I love matching film clips up to music. Not surprisingly, I love making Anime Music Videos when I feel inspired. smile

yay theatrical trailers!

btw, we're called 'Skylight'. Verbena has our logo somewhere.

Hello!

Well, I'm Kate, and I'm seventeen, heading off to Reed College in Portland, OR as a freshman next year. I plan to major in classics and linguistics (ah, I love dead languages), and, hopefully, to be able to play in the school's Chamber Orchestra. I've been playing violin since kindergarten (11 years, give or take a few breaks), but since I tend to focus more on the actual school aspect of things, I'm not as good as could be expected from starting so early. Violin is so bothersomely popular, too..

Composers.. I like Dvorak, Debussy, Satie, Puccini, Rachmaninov, Korzakov, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky.. I seem to have developed something of a block about listening to Baroque casually, though if I focus on it I enjoy it. Otherwise, I think, the mathematical nature of the music isn't as interesting to a casually listening ear as the more emotional nature of the later music I prefer. I also enjoy early choir music, as performed by the Tallis Scholars, for example (the "Miserere" is so beautiful..). Favorite conductors? George Szell (of the Cleveland Symphony, when alive) and James Levine (a fellow alum of Walnut Hills High *grin* )

I'm glad to be here. smile

Mmkay, I just thought I'd take a look because... yes, I have lots of time on my hands.

I'm Fuoko; I like most all sorts of music pre-dating 1900 with liberal exceptions made on both ends of that date. Let's see, I like most all artsy things and... yes. Not much one can say on the subject of me... stare

Time on your hands? If you are talking about school holidays, I discovered something wonderful about them.

You can use that time for artistic persuit. I'm going in a few minutes to practise Chopin etudes- Something I rarely have energy for after school, work, organ and piano [I mean, conciertos] take their toll on my day.

I feel compelled to ask you about your liberal exceptions!

I'm Dan, and I'm 15. I first got hooked onto music seriously once I joined band in the 6th grade, playing the flute. After two years, I decided I wanted to go into Jazz, so I switched to the Alto Sax. I didn't really want my parents to have to go pay for two intruments (rentals or purchases), so I switched...I guess permanantly. At least until I have enough money to maybe buy a flute. I feel like such a youngin' in this guild. If I didn't have to drop a core class to take music theory at school, I would take it. I play water polo and I swim, both for my high school, and water polo is year round.

Probably the main reason I joined this guild was to protract the musical experience. Learn more about things. Not just wonder why this happens, or why this sounds this way, maybe learn some facts and theories. And discuss them as well.

I look forward to talking with you all in the near future!

Ohhh, hell yes. Go music geeks! ;DD

Name's Kaitlyn, though you can call me Ascend. I'm fourteen and reside in California, though I'd rather be in New York. I play mainly trombone and piano, I'm learning tenor sax, and I used to play flute. ^^; Trying to get it back, but it's taking some time. I play in the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra and soon my high school band. (I didn't realize you had to try out beforehand for the jazz band gonk ) I prefer orchestra to band, though.

I adore modern music, though classical and jazz are a close second. <3 Favorite composers include Debussy and Beethoven.

And, um, I guess that's it. @__@ (:
