"I...I'm sorry for making you feel that way, Zaphiro, it was not my intention though I must admit I felt the same way. I thought...I wasn't good enough, in some way, to cause you to want to leave."
The hopeless romantic won out against the skepticism, "It scared me because I never felt this way about anyone either. I never believed in the concept before."
Or rather she wouldn't let herself believe.

If he'd had any concerns about how this was going previously, that comment clinched it. Eyes shining, Zaphiro gave Hienna a tender smile. "That prime piece of idiocy you got to witness last time was me panicking about not wanting to mess things up and succeeding at doing just that. I didn't want to leave, but I felt that, given how you'd said you felt about romance and whatnot, that if I stayed I'd wind up losing you."
Instead, leaving had lost her, but who was keeping track anymore?
"These last two weeks have been hell without you, Hienna; even though this is perhaps a tall order, given your unease with the concept, all that I want to do now is stay with you. Maybe, in time, we'll know for sure?"
He wasn't exactly sure how to interpret her comments, at least literally. After all, she had said both she wasn't sure and she WAS sure, but best to err on the side of caution. Regardless, time wasn't an issue anymore, not now that he'd found her.

Nothing was worse than a confused and unsure Hienna, that was for certain. Fortunately for Zaphiro, the mare had decided to shut up and simply smiled and gave a nod of her head. There was no way to misinterpret that, was there?
A nod was affirmation that he was being given permission to stay with her.

The nod was enough for Zaphiro, at any rate; all he needed was a chance, after all.
Returning the nod with a smile, he then took a step back; he'd been given a chance, not given any permissions, so until such a time happened (hoping it would, naturally), he'd just continue as before; give Hienna her space and treat her respectfully, but ultimately win her over just by virtue of being himself.
Hopefully.
At any rate, this was a significant moment! There was a problem, though...
"So, what do you suppose we should do now?"
He hadn't really thought this far ahead!

Neither had she. Actually, Hienna had never thought she'd see him again so already she had been taken by surprise several times that night. "I wouldn't mind watching the stars?"
The night had fallen in that short time, the moon casting its shadows across the water and the sands. It was, in actuality, quite the romantic setting. Zaphiro would likely appreciate it.
"Or finding a place to stay for the evening..."

Laying back and enjoying the night, the moon and stars casting their pale light earthwards and the breeze carrying salty sea air inwards...that sounded quite pleasant. So did finding a place for the night, for that matter, but considering how late it was...
"Well, it's a bit late to start looking for a different place, I'm thinking, so what would you say about spending the night here, Hienna? There's enough sand, and the beach is wide enough that we ought to be able to settle down safely out of the tides' way...and then once we're settled, we can see what's going on up in the sky."
A fabulous plan, impromptu as it was!

"It sounds lovely," she answered, tail flicking lightly as she looked along the beach. At least the ocean appeared calm that night and it didn't seem like there would be any storms. Hienna couldn't imagine the wreckage that could happen if a storm came upon them.
She surpressed a shudder and looked back up to Zaphiro with a warm smile, "Have a spot in mind, Zaphiro?"

"Well..." Glancing about the beach thoughtfully, Zaphiro eyed the sand with all the intensity of one making a serious decision. Trotting up the beach a bit, he turned and moved towards a place where the sandy strip of coast widened into a broad stretch of sand and made his way over to where the sand lay in drifts, unsolidified by water.
Casting his gaze about critically, he pawed at the sand to make sure it wasn't otherwise occupied, then flopped himself down as one final test. It was still warm, and very comfortable. Looking back down the beach at Hienna, he gave her a grin. "Over here, maybe?"
While he waited for a reply, he took advantage of the moment to once again simply look at Hienna; after all these weeks, being able to see her again was pure bliss. And just as the morning sun made her gleam like a jewel, so too did the moonlight highlight her beauty, defining every shimmer and glitter of her body.

She felt his appreciative gaze on her and blushed deeply as she made her way to the place Zaphiro had decided to lay on. She trusted him and while that was something that would take some getting used to the mare just found oddly comforting to be able to trust another person.
Hienna lowered herself down beside him and gave him an appreciative glance in return. He was just as lovely as she remembered.
"Good choice, indeed..." Her head lifted and she looked into the sky, "The sky is quite pleasant tonight."

Smiling at the mare as she settled herself down beside him, Zaphiro gave her a nod of greeting, as though they had actually been apart. He would have honestly liked to drape his wing over her, to feel her snuggle against his side for warmth and simple comfort, but for now this was more than nice enough.
Casting his glance skywards as well, he murmured in agreement. "It truly is. Considering how cloudy it's been, the clarity tonight is amazing." And indeed it was; the stars shone like diamonds in the clear noght sky, adding to the more than adequate lustre of the half-moon. "They really look like we could just reach up and touch them, don't they?"

It was good that he just let it be - as it was, Hienna was a mess inside trying to figure all these feelings out. Sorting through what her mother told her, how Zaphiro made her feel, her own thoughts. It was a lot to deal with for the unicorn who rarely had contact with anyone.
"Yes, they do. Sometimes I lay out and look at the night sky - when I can actually stay up..." she hadn't mentioned her inability to sleep lately and didn't think it needed mentioning anyway, "And just wish that I could hold the beauty of the sky some how. It'd be nice to have hands, like the two leggers." She laughed softly.
Sometimes she had the strangest thoughts.

Glancing back at Hienna from the sky, Zaphiro had to laugh as well; brief as his time spent with the two leggers was, he'd often pondered about the usefulness of hands himself. Tugging things along with one's teeth was all well and good, but you couldn't really talk at the same time; besides, some objects coulnd't be carried in the mouth.
But on the whole, he was content with his hooves. No gripping, maybe, but they were certainly tougher; and having four legs meant that the Soquili could move faster.
Still, it was amusing, especially in conjunction with Hienna's comments. Looking her way, he gave a slight shake of the head. "Even if we had hands, it would be tough to hold onto them, methinks; and hands would look odd on the end of Soquili limbs, don't you think?"
As he spoke, he held up one foreleg, the markings glimmering in the starlight. "Picture this with a hand. Bizarre, wouldn't you say?"

Hienna couldn't help but let out a very unladylike snort, "I suppose not. I often wonder what it's like for them to do things with their hands, though. Pick up something, cradle something, hold someone's hand in their own." And now was when she was going to show off her closet-romantic side. "I've seen the two legger couples and there's so much affection that can be conveyed through a hand. It would be amazing to experience, I think."
She was silent for some time, looking thoughtfully up at the sky again.

Perhaps it was mere abstraction on Hienna's part, but Zaphiro couldn't help but smile at her words. He'd never seen a two-legger couple himself, so he wasn't exactly sure of what she spoke, but they weren't the only ones who could show affection.
Glancing at Hienna in a somewhat sideways fashion, he was a bit quiet when he replied, not exactly sure how what he was saying would be taken. "Well you know...we Soquili are pretty good at showing affection as well. I mean, hands aren't everything."

"I wouldn't know," she said softly before looking back over at him, "Never really had any shown to me either way. Concern, perhaps, but not affection..." Hienna paused.
Asking him to show her was just on the tip of her tongue but she couldn't quite force it out. Not yet. First, she wasn't that bold - and second...Well, she was still confused anyway.
"All I know are my own ponderings and what I've observed."
