Avis-yam
YAY! I've been waiting for this. 3nodding

These confuse me a bit. sweatdrop

Quote:
É - pronounced like 'ye'.

G - Gé - never pronounced like the 'g' in 'gin', it's either soft (try pronouncing 'gh' softly icon_confused.gif) or hars like in 'go' or 'egg'.

Is the soft G like in "mirage" (the French J sound)?
And I don't know how to pronounce é. x3

Oh man, these two are so hard to explain. But 'ye' is very close to how é sounds, you know, like in the song! Oh come, all ye faithful...

The soft G is.. gah! It's not like the french g, no. It's sort of like.. you put the back part of your tongue up to your soft palate, almost at the throat, and then you sort of.. blow through it, its very 'airy'. But sometimes, G sounds like Y, like before I.

Magi (stomach) = Mah-yi
Laga (to fix) = Lah-gha (the airy one)
Garður (garden, park) = Garth-ur (harsh one)

Don't know if this makes any more sense.. confused

Ahh, OK I thought that was how "ye" was but I wasn't sure. It's like Old/Middle English "ye" then. 3nodding

The G sounds difficult. I'll have to hear someone say it to replicate the sound myself. sweatdrop

it's Yeh, it's spelled like the old english "Ye" but they pronunced it yee!....this is just to help clear things up

Let's see here...

Halló! Ég heiti Dave. Ég er 21 ára gamall, og ég er "american" (:XP smile . Ég er í skóla. Áhugamálin mín eru tónlist og tungumál.

eh, eh? xd

to draw:
1.p.sing. (ég) teikna
2.p.sing. (þú) teiknar
3.p.sing. (hann/hún/það) teiknar
1.p.plur. (við) teiknum
2.p.plur. (þið) teiknið
3.p.plur. (þeir/þær/þau) teikna

A few questions:

Is there an Icelandic version of Dave (or David)? Or should I just be like, "Ég heiti Dave!"

How do I count higher than 10? Like, "Ég er 21 ára gamall," but how would I say the 21 part?

How do you say some other nationalities, like American, French, Chinese, etc.?

Keep going, this is fascinating to me! biggrin

Dave gets a 10! (=A) domokun

We have the Icelandic name Davíð for David. It's your choice whether you want to keep yours as it is or "Icelandic-ize" it. ;]

I was going to edit more numbers as soon as I remember and have time.. which should be tomorrow or Wednesday. >.> 21 would be "tuttugu-og-einn" though. :]

Nationalities, noted. And countries. :3 American is "bandarískur" (for masculine, "bandarísk" for feminine). I'll add them when I add the numbers.

I'm glad you're interested! ^^

That's only if you're talking on the phone here are the many ways to say Hello/Hi. Right Ljos?

Sæl og blessuð (said to a woman)
Sæll og blessuður (said to a man)
Komdu sæl og blessuð (said to a woman)
Komdu sæll og blessuður (said to a man)
Hæ hæ!

Here's mine:

Ég heiti Ole-Ravn, Ég er 16 ára gamall, Ég er Dönsku og Svíþð (is this right (Svensk?)
Ég er frá Ameríka

Koko: No, not really. The ways you posted are all correct, but we very rarely use them, apart from 'hæ' (pronounced pretty much just like 'hi'), and not necessarily in two's. The longer versions are rather formal, and not used so much (I think I already said that in my first posts.. anyway).

Yeah, I know, I meant instead of saying "I'm from America" ("ég er frá Ameríku/Bandaríkjunum"), saying "I'm American" ("ég er bandarískur"). :]

Very good Dave! The (-i) in some of the masculine words was meant to signify that they didn't have the i in the dative. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear on that, I should have explained it. ^^
And sorry about Systir, I didn't realize, haha! I'll replace it with something else. :]
(For your information though, Systir declinates as "Systir - systur - systur - systur", hope it won't confuse you though.)
But yeah, it was really good. ^^

And Koko, rúm does mean bed, I said so in the lesson myself. ;]
