Hydra-Star Mr.Ownage Tillisnut Hydra-Star Tillisnut I do not do it unless I'm very irate. I use it just for emphasis and only rarely. I use other substitutes instead most of the time. That is my opinion, so don't take offense. No offense taken, of course. ^^ I swear occasionally when I'm very angry. I've found that swearing has a lot more effect when you don't do it very often. It's actually more effective if you don't do it all the time. I agree with you on that point. But if you do, tone of voice determines it's effectiveness. Me, for example. If I'm laughing and say "I'm gonna ******** kill you." I probably don't really care. However, if I say the same thing through clenched teeth, lingering on every word, running is recomended. Yeah, but if you only say it "through clenched teeth, lingering on every word" then it's even more effective. It adds extra emphasis where as if you use it all the time it really doesn't. It's just the way you're saying it, not what you're actually saying. Which, of course, was my original point.

Okay, I must have misinterpreted you. I thought that you were saying that the swear word added emphasis if you said it a certain way. Sorry. What I'm saying is simply that they're crude and you don't need them. It doesn't bother me if you use them, but in my personal opinion it makes you sound less educated. You should be able to find a more socially acceptable, less crude worde to express the way you're feeling.

To me, words are just sounds that form communication. I'm terribly simplistic like that. The thought that a certain set of sounds stringed together could cause offense makes me giggle like the little school girl I am. :D But. Well. We shall agree to disagree.

I rarely swear at school and other places, but only if I'm extremely irritated or angry.
I hear people swear at each other all the time. It's annoying, 'cause swear words shouldn't be insulting. If you want to be a smartass about it, you'll know that what was said isn't true at all.

My head is giving me life or death....I'm pro-swearing. I've never seen anything wrong with cursing to express your emotion, and I think it's ludacris to tell a someone not to curse or to bleep out cursing in television programs and such. It's unconstitutional to try and control what one is saying. I'm often told that cursing is not allowed in school, and if I do so I will ge expelled, but I just usually say back, "The first amendment in our constitution is "Freedom of Speech". People have died for me to use my rights to their full extent, and you do not have the power to restrict them. So I'll ******** swear if I want to swear." But I can't choose...

Unfortunately there's a hole in that argument. As long as you're a minor and/or enrolled in a school, on that school's ground you don't have the freedom of speech. It's horrid, I know. But it really is the law. Minors don't have nearly so many freedoms. @The Nature Fairy: I'm with you on that.

Rose Is Saying...I am kinda with The Nature Fairy, I rarely swear in public and most certainly never around my mother or people who know her.
I do get irritated with people who are loud and obnoxious, I don't like it when people just Cuss just to Cuss. I have to be annoyed on some level for me to use that language .
I do agree with Xx-Semi Sweet-xX when it comes to censorship. I am ANTI-CENSORSHIP! I hate it when I'm watching a film and if some one says " I think your an a*****e" They bleep out a*****e and replace it with some ' childish word' that doesn't have the same affect that it would have had if that had kept it as a*****e. And then if some one says a** or b***h,...they don't change it or bleep it out, it really pisses me off.
And I hate it when they chop films up cause of content and if they are showing it on public TV, what ever they cut out isn't always that bad. Why isn't slapping a rating or a disclaimer in the corner of the screen enough? You see the warning, don't like it...don't watch it. Don't Sue the Network for showing it just cause you were curious and ignored the rating. And rated R probably means younger kids should be kept in the other room if you don't want them to see it. [ Fumes/] ( I could go on and on but I have ventured into a completely different subject, woops ^^ )
Why is America so uptight about this stuff? Europe will have Cursing on TV whether its called for or not and Nudity is the same way, Europe and plenty of other county's are very Free Sexually and Nudity is Not A Big A Deal.
What Crawled up Americas a** that we are so Prudish?

Sorry, I'm hungry...I have to wait for my mother to come home so I can make tacos crying XD It's okay! Rants like that are just what this subforum is for. I agree with you in a lot of ways. I certainly don't like censorship. Unfortunately, the child development class I took a few years ago is going to force me to say this. There is a very good reason why even small things such as slapping shouldn't be shown in the middle of the day. Night (even after 9 PM) I'm fine with, but in the middle of the day small children are watching. Many parents will leave their child in front of the TV and go make lunch or dinner. Or the kid will watch it on their own. Or, in the case of small babies, their parents will be watching it and they'll subconsciously pick things up (yes, this really does happen). Some things can cause serious harm to a child's mind, such as violence when the child gets older or nightmares. Particularly things like domestic violence or extreme violence. I really don't think that cursing or even nudity should be censored (except maybe on family oriented channels), but violence definitely should. Because, let's face it, parents don't always know what their children are watching. As for Europe, they have a different culture. Such things have been built into their culture for centuries. Our culture simply evolved differently and thus has different values.

I can understand to an extent of bleeping out Violence but then again...why not just show that stuff latter at night, when kids of a certain age are in bed or something . ( Some movies they play all day and its more a late night move not a early morning move, you know? I find it odd. But I suppose its convenient it that was your only chance to see it ). Setting parental locks works ( if the kid cant crack the code ) Older kids,..if they are attracted to that stuff they will get a hold of it somehow and it really wont matter whether it available in the home or not.
Well at least thats how it is for a lot of people I know and myself. You can get a hold of anything you parents don't want you to see.
I mean unless your parent keep you on a " tracking device " of some sort, then you cant risk getting caught with....' Fight Club ' under your mattress.

God forbid they find your Die Hard DVDs under the floorboards. lol
I agree completely with you on how they should show that stuff later. Why they don't I have no idea, but if they must show it then it should be censored. Older kids I'm really not worried about. It's the young ones I feel need to be protected. XD I can actually imagine my parents doing something like that. Thank god we don't have enough money for them to afford something like that! Rose Is Saying...
My mom I'm sure would love to secretly keep tabs on me but we cant afford anything like that...I could probably find a way around it anyways. lol

Ooh. You must be a talented person. XD My sister would probably be able to find ways around it. I, on the other hand, would try and fail miserably. XD
