The guy sitting down is me. mrgreen The way to make them look life like is all about shading. Contrast of colors- or in my drawings contrast between black and white.

you drew yourself!!! AWESOME!!! how do you get your shades so smooth? thats really .... you look very life like lolz. 4laugh
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 10:25 pm

to get my shading so smooth I use a dark graphite pencil and a piece of paper towel. Then just smooth it out.

Oh the pic in real life is about four feet by two and a half feet

Wow thats big. how long does it take you to draw something like that? did you sit in front of a mirror and do that or was it just from memory? Sorry for all the questions... its not every day that I get to meet someone who is into that stuff.... I mean Darren (friend at school) is into it but hes more of the funny cartoons kinda guy...

If I post some will you give me tips on them... I mean if its not too much trouble?

Sure I will help. I never get the chance to really actually analyze what I do. That might help me 2. I did the picture me by doing this.

1.taking a picture of myself with timer
2.Making an overhead of myself
(I only do this if I have a deadline-like in school)
3.from picture draw myself by starting with stickman
4. Look for shapes in my body (rectangle for chest, oval for head,)
and draw them on top of the stick man
5. Then details-face, hair, wrinkles, fingers,etc..
6. shade it all

so just like that? It looks like you did so much more... I believe ( when I was in public school) once in 4th grade we had an art class on how to draw faces starting it out like a stick man.... and my dudes head ended up looking like he had a doughnut for a head lolz.

great!!! ill try to get them on the computer really fast then! this is gonna be cool!

I had fun chating but I have to go for today... My dad needs his computer for the cd covers xd . I should be back on my atleast monday. Thank you sooooo much for the shading tips!!!! heart

Oh, yeah thats close to the method that I use to draw anything anime..although I am still trying to find time to work on drawing faces.

Ofcourse I use the bubble method (sounds odd but works)
1. Always start out with the head size, its curital
2. After the head oval is done draw the sholder that will be closest biggest (or if they are the same size make them the same size)
3. From there I typically make over lapping ovals streching down from the sholders (Closest is biggest)
4. Sometimes I put in a stomach or the hip.
5. Then I start with two more overlapping ovals that are longer than the chest one, these are the upper legs, Closest is biggest and the right angle changes how the leg looks.
6. Then add circles for the Knee's and from there, Add the lower leg ovals, these will be skinnier than the upper legs (typically)
7. Add the angle the foot will be directed towards and draw a circle or oval in accordance.
8. I figure out what I want the arms to be doing first
9. Then I go back up to the sholders make an oval on the ends of those for the uppper arms
10. Add a circle for the elbow
11. Draw the forarms
12. Draw the circles for the hands

13. Thats the entire outline of the person and from ther all that is left is to fill in with detail.

My art teacher is soooo cool, we actually had a Japanese unit where we drew anime and came up with storylines!! I love drawing, esp. in black and white. I absolutely LOVE white charcoal, it's really hard but looks incredible.
