Aita leaned on Daray for support but snarled with a curled lip at his commands. For now she would do as he said since she needed him to get her to the cave, but she was not going to be taking commands like that from anyone. Not him not that kalona Shade...no one.
They reached the cave safely and rather then obey Daray's orders to lean against the wall she laid down, a rather defiant look gleaming in her eyes. A part of her knew he was doing what he thought was best for ehr and the foals, but ordering her around instead of asking was the wrong way to get the nightmaress to co-operate.
She watched as he ran into the cave, wondering what exactly he was doing to prepare for her. She watched him as he rushed back to get her, and snarling at him slightly she rose to her feet once more, legs weak and wobbling while seering pains continued throughout her belly. She wanted to kick him in the teeth but found she was in no position to do so at the moment. She laid down on the bed, finding some comfort in the soft furs.
And then a small voice was heard. She snapped her head around to see a small ferret, oddly colored like Daray. She snarled a warning to him to not get any closer. From Daray's reaction, it seeme dhe knew this critter. Sadly he would not be her next meal and she had been starvign before the labor...great. starving hunger pangs and in labor. She was not looking forward to this.
Aita heard the ferret's reaction and curled her lips even more, baring her sharp fangs. "Yes they are fur and yours will be added next to them if you come any closer" Her crimson eyes flashed dangerously as her protective instincts mixed with her general mean temperment for such creatures took over. She watched the ferret backtrack in fear and a sinister grin took place on her muzzle. Smart ferret. She shook her head as Daray scrambled to speak to the creature and was unable to hear their whisperings.
When Daray returned to her she snapped at him, but didn't bite him. It was just her way of warning him she was not pleased with him at the moment. "Next time you decide to give me orders like your little pet Daray, I will not miss my mark and you will have a scar to serve as a reminder." She hissed her warning at him. A request she could deal with since she had a choice, but orders and commands? Oh no that would not go over so well with her.
And thats when the next wave of pain hit, and suddenly she could feel the movement of a foal coming dopwn the bith canal. She squealed in pain, sweating now as the birthing began.

Daray flinched back, hurt at his mate's words.
"I'm sor-sorry, Aita," he stuttered, nervous and confused. He hadn't meant to be bossy in the least. Hell, he hadn't meant to be anything but a good stallion and mate to her. Perhaps he was doing worse at this family thing than he had originally thought. It wasn't like his mate went into labor everyday, though, so what should he have done differently? Yeah, he could have been nicer about it and asked more politely... but when two or three little baby horses were about to enter the world by means of his lover's physical body, he was proud of the fact he hadn't gone hysterical by now.
He was going to continue his mental emo rant, but Aita let out a loud squeal, almost causing him to pass out, right then and there.
"Oh sweet spirit..." he nearly shouted, "What should I do?!"

Aita was now sweating hard, her black coat thoroughly soaked. She gave a hard push and finally one foal was free, but before she could turn to clean him off, the seering pain of another one coming caused her to squeal once mroe and she nearly kicked the foal. For the first time, fear shone in her eyes. What if the foal suffocated while she went into immediate labor with another?
Her head shot around, looking for Daray who seemed to be standing lost in his own thoughts and in shock. "Daray! Daray!" She nearly screamed in a panic. "I cannot clean the foal, another is coming." She squealed again as the 2nd foal began to enter the birth canal. "If it isn't cleaned and the nostrils cleared soon the foal will die..." She dearly hoped he would snap out of his shock and clean off the foal but who knew what he would do.

Daray stood there, dumbfounded, as he watched the creature emerge from within Aita. He had not physically witnessed a birthing before, and it was turning his stomach. Where was all the happy, warm, fuzzy feelings? All he saw was this little monster creature surfacing.. covered in some gooey mess.
His ears flattened from the high pitched squeal his mate let out. Clean the foal? What the hell did that mean? Her maternal mare instincts must have been kicking in, but where was his Daddy genes when he needed them?
Looking around frantically, he snagged a nearby pelt with his teeth and dashed over to the sticky looking semi-recognizable foal. Dropping the pelt onto it's head, Daray, trying to be as gentle as he could, rubbed it all over the horse's face, cleaning it off the mess that blocked it's nostrils and mouth. Pushing the pelt further down over its head, Daray attempted to clean off its back and legs, all the while watching Aita struggle her way through birthing the second foal.

The second foal took longer to birth then the first, but finally it emerged. Aita barely got a chance to look at the foal when another pain shot throughout her belly. They were having three foals!?!?!?! She pushed hard, concentrating on birthing the last foal as Daray cleaned off the first foal. She watched him from the corner of her eye but she approved of his methods. One was used to use their tongue to clean a foal but she did not expect Daray to know this. At least he had devised his own way to clean the foals.
Finally the third foal was out. Aita was exausted and she sat up, drenched in sweat, which ran down her face and into her eyes. She looked at the three foals before them. Their family. They were here. And low and behold, all three were girls! Her crimson orbs found Daray's gaze and an exausted, weak smile took place of the expression she had before. She nuzzled each foal, guiding them to her belly to nourish them with her life giving milk.
"Look Daray. They are beautiful. We've had three daughters."

He didn't know what to think, at first. Each filly was a beautiful mix of the two parents, and he wondered to himself how it was possible for something so beautiful to be born, much less have three of them.
It didn't bother him... actually, it relieved him, to know that he had no son. He feared that, even though he wasn't ready to be a father, he was especially not ready to take on fathering a son, a colt to take on in his footsteps. Maybe it wasn't really as daunting as it sounded, but it didn't matter at all now. Now he had three beautiful, precious little girls, whom he would care for and adore with all of his heart.
He studied them as they fed on Aita, who beamed at him happily. He was so proud of her... he doubted he'd be able to last through the strain and difficulty of birthing. He mouthed to her "I love you" and then turned to look at each of his new daughters.
All three of them stood out to the eye, each for their own reason. The farthest to the left had beautiful blazing hair of fire, like her mother, and possessed Aita's dark black coat. The middle foal had hair that looked burned, its black tips running into the orange colors, and her hooves helped light up the cave, as they possessed Aita's Nightmare quality as well. Her coat was coal, like his, and instead of taking on his wild orange patterns, took on her own version of black, outlined in orange. The farthest filly to the right, however, bore no flames of fire like their mother, but instead beamed her own brightness from her bright orange designs covering her skin. Her skin was black like her mother's, but the patterns were distinctly from his genes.
All three beautiful, all three special, and he loved every single one of them.
He stepped closer towards the four, and leaned his head down to nuzzle his mate. "I'm so very proud of you Aita... I don't think I've ever been a happier stallion than I am now," he whispered softly. His heart was so full of joy, he was scared it might beat too fast. Oh, how happy he truly was.

Aita's eyes fell to their three daughters for a few moments, watching as each one fed and once finished feeding they curled into her and the soft pelts, falling fast asleep. Eachw as beautiful in her eyes and each had a piece of both parents.
The first born looked alot like her father, with his tribal markings althuogh they were black outlined in orange, and small sparks of fire on her hooves, like her mother. She had a beautiful mane and tail of yellow fading to orange with black streaks and a black tipped tail. She had her father's fiery orange eyes. One thing Aita always adored.
The second born was the most bright and festive looking of the bunch. She had a dark black coat and beautiful fire colored tribal markings, white and orange streaked mane, and not flames but rather flame like markings going up each leg like fire whisps. This filly had her mother's crimson eyes.
Last, but not least, the third boen daughter was the most like her mother. She had a dark black coat, with orange tribal markings on her back, neck and face. Her mane and tail started white and blended into a dark orange with small flames throughout her mane and tail. She had the same dark orange fire whisps on each leg as her sister and she had orangey red eyes, a mixture of both parent's eyes equally.
aita looked up to look at Daray once more and her heart swelled with pride and love. Unusual for a nightmaress but she was growung accustomed to it. She watched as Daray surveyed their foals with a tender gaze. She accepted his nuzzle and loving words and nuzzled him back. "Daray, they are all so beautiful. What should we name them? "
