Adventure? She didn't mind adventures but didn't quite understand the other part. If you ignore the grass being yellow and having a certain crunch to it, the savanna was lush and full of life. There were things to eat, creatures to meet, there weren't any ruins. Sure there were skeletons. Everything dies. But the timid part... was he trying to suggest she was timid? That was the wrong way to turn the conversation. She hadn't even so much as acted timid. He was but certainly not her. This was one confusing lion and she thought those of her own gender were bad! He seriously knew how to put a damper on things. Now what was she supposed to talk about?
Laini frowned a bit. Maybe she needed a different tactic. "Sorry for interupting your walk there. I know how peaceful the nights are..." oh god, that sounded corny. If she had been an observer, she would've laughed at herself. "You weren't doing anything important were you?"

"Not really important. Just saying goodbye for a while, really, to all of this. The roguelands I mean and just...meeting people like this." So far, he didn't think he'd miss it, after Laini. Muroki actually chuckled. It seemed that even though he'd tried to keep it pretty simple, he'd lost her at some point - possibly the bit where he'd used metaphors and a few examples of what hed been used to before coming here. Which was a bit beyond the usual chit chat. No matter. It'd cheered him up anyway. Poor lass.
"Tell me, don't you ever find it tedious trying to talk to strangers? I've never met a rogue who didn't talk to other rogues, even if it was just to fling abuse. As far as politeness and limited knowlege of each other goes it's hard to start a good conversation sometimes, isn't it?"

"Oh... ok," she replied. Maybe it was just her luck that she ran into him ...or the other way around if she was to be the last rogue he ever saw. "Conversation is sometimes hard but I'm used to not being the one doing all the talking so it's all good for me, I guess..." She had tried so hard to get him to talk that she had worn all the angriness out of her. She couldn't be mean to him now. Maybe in the morning after he was gone but not now. "It's not hard to start a conversation. More like, hard to keep it going if you're the only one trying." hint, hint, she thought in his direction.
"Rogues... well, we don't run into other rogues very often. Conversation is nice. It reminds us we're still sane." Laini had the particularly urge to naw on something but made do and sucked in the side of her cheek, holding it between her teeth.

"You missed my point entirely. I was a rogue. Had been all my life. Met many many many other rogues - which is normal enough by my experiance - and had conversations that pretty much matched this one up until my attempted goodbye word for word."
Ok, now he was staying because he just wanted to know. It was curious. He'd never cared about any boredom he'd felt when he'd had his intented by his side and a quest to do, an adventure to go on. Muroki hadn't minded talking to other rogues, and the usual exchanges had been fine. But pridemembers. He'd have pridemembers to meet and talk to about real things. A land to explore and not just discover, but actually know and posses. How could anyone want less that that from life?
"And I became utterly bored with meeting people who I'll probably never see again and lands that are, essentialy, all the same. So you think a conversation about the evening weather and how far we've travelled is a good one?"

"You missed what I meant, apparently," she said, raising a brow, frowning. "A conversation regardless of topics, how well you know the person, how often you're going to see the other, or whatever is still a conversation. It may be a conversation filled with nonsensical things but that doesn't change it. Maybe you were some special case where you never had to worry about it but I do. Being a rogue isn't fun and games. But I don't think I have to tell you that. Conversation passes the time, reminds you of who you are, and reminds you you're not alone. We could talk about why the sky is blue. I don't care. If you don't understand the concept of conversation then it's just sad." He didn't get it, did he? How important conversation was. She didn't even know if he would get it but exploding at him was unavoidable. He was utterly bored with meeting people he'd never see again? "Try not talking to anyone for months, traveling through unfriendly places with no one to be your friend, to ask you how you're doing, to ask you if you like the weather or anything like that. Then ask me again about conversation."

"Well, that sounded puffed up. You think you're the only one whose ever gone through that? At first it was a welcome break from the pointless chatter but trust me, I've put up with near-endless silence too. Just spent months getting to this jungle and after inconstant compainionship for years...Drives you a little bit mad, silence."
"But if you can't understand the tedium and pointlessness of meaningless converstaion, that's just sad too. Can't you see there opposites that are ultimately the same? Silence is awful. But words that are empty and are just to fill in time so you know you're there to hear them is equally awful. Personally I'm finding this discussion more rewarding that 'the sky is blue'. "

"You really think so? Really? Someone who even bothers to have a pointless conversation with you has to care about you at least a little. Even knowing that, is it still pointless? Would it be better to remain silent rather than to have the courtesy to have a conversation, as pointless as it may be?" Anything was better than silence. And didn't he just say that silence makes you go a bit mad? Yes, he did. Did he say that pointless empty words drive you a bit insane? No he did not. "And to jump back to the beginning of your statement, no I didn't think I was the only one but it just seemed to me like you haven't. And you even just said yourself silence drives you a bit mad." so she was repeating her thoughts? Big whoop. "Does pointless chatter make you a bit mad? Isn't it better than hearing your own thoughts reverberate off the surroundings, as flat as the surroundings might be, making such seem impossible?"
She really wanted to rip something up now. It was always really difficult when you can't find someone who understands you.

"You really got the concepts mixed up. And when did I say they had to care about me? What I said was what's the point if you're never going to see them again and neither of you put anything of yourself into teh conversation. 'Oh what a pretty sky' may be a bit of an opinion but even less so when it's in reply to 'such lovely weather we're having'. It'd be better to actually give an opinion, make an observation, invite a little variety into it. That keeps it from being pointless even if it is brief because what is memorable about 'oh what a pretty sky? Else what do you take away from that but a small reminder of saneness? Nothing and that's what drives you mad. You've met someone but you may as well have been talking to a rock."
His voice had changed to mimic two lions, one with a higher voice and one with a lower voice for the sky commenting. Vaguely mocking, as if it hardly took much intelligence to have such an exchange. There was rarely much thought put into it, and none of the heart. Unlike Laini, he was getting passionate about his point of view rather than angry at being misunderstood. He wanted to understand her. Hell, that was the whole point!
"And I said silence was as bad as pointless chat and pointless chat as bad as silence so the rest of what you said is a loss to me. It's just reinterating my points and some point. Make me undertsand what you're getting at and then we can discuss it."

Aggg! She really wanted to smash something now for sure. He wasn't making this easy at all. "You know what? Fine. Maybe you don't put anything into conversations. Maybe you find them pointless. Maybe you don't care. Maybe I am the only one in the ******** world that cares about conversation. Maybe I am the only one that cares, period. Sorry to bother you with some pointless conversation. You're right. We'll never see each other again. You have fun with your little pointless life. See how far that gets you. If you want to have friends, start learning to care about conversations. Currently, you fail."
And with an angry flip of her tail, she turned to leave. Yeah, way to go. Make her feel like crap, basically telling her that whatever came out of her mouth was crap, that she didn't mean a single word, that she didn't care about what he was going to say, that it was all about just hearing people speak. What was with him? She should have let him go when he had tried to. She frowned and shook her head. No. She wouldn't cry. She wouldn't show weakness. She was stronger than this ingrate and she would stalk off confidently, not like some weakling who lacked a backbone.

"Funny, it looks to me like you put something into, some opinons and belief so it did mean something. You look like you want to hurt something because those opinions and beliefs differ to mine, but going with mine, this conversation was worth something. Because of that. It's a pity it upset you, that's all. "
His enthusiasm for debate ebbed as she turned away and shook her head. This lionness had thoughts on things and with a bit of prodding would actually talk about them. How on earth could that be compared with mindless talk that was just polite cliches? Muroki was truelly sorry he'd seemingly caused her grief.
"And considering I have opinons and beliefs about conversation, that kind of means I do care about conversation. In fact I care about improving conversation. As for telling me I fail? That's just cubbish. But since we're being cubbish, I'd say learn some control. I'm sorry it upset you Laini but I don't see why conflicting views have to lead to anguish."
Funny, that had meant to be an apology yet it still sounded wrong.

She didn't move any farther but neither did she turn around. "I just can't understand your point of view on the idea of conversation. It really doesn't sound right. That's not why we were given conversation, surely. I mean, I'm sorry my words seemed pointless to you but I meant them even from when I said 'good evening' -well, okay maybe not then. I wasn't sure about the evening at that point in time. But I don't believe my words are hollow, that they have no meaning. And ahh you're so confusing. You make it sound like you don't care at all about conversation and now you're saying you do? As for being 'cubbish' doesn't everyone's vocabulary shrink when they're upset?"
She just shook her head again and stood there, no longer sure what to do with herself.

"I think we were given conversation to communicate...something of ourselves. When you meet someone, you don't know them, right? You can see them and you can scent them but it's with our voices we communicate the clearest what we think and feel. But if we just echo conversations over and over, falling back on what polite conversation should be....that's keeping all those ideas and emotions inside and unspoken. that to me is pointless."
"If I'm never to see someone again, I'd like to get to know what I can about them while we talk rather than just...hear the same old comments. That's pointless to me. So we'll have to agree to disagree. I repect that you see things differently to I do. And though it's been kind of negative because it upset you, atleast I know more about what you think rather than just exchanging pleasantries."

She laughed although it came out a bit strangled in her current state and had to bring a paw to her eyes to sho the tears that were builing up away. "I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. I mean, I always saw conversational pleasantries as the key to opening conversations up. If you ask me, they're a start to the bigger part of the conversation. Afterall, if you flatout reject the pleasantries, is someone going to want to bother sharing about themselves. No, wait, don't answer that. I'd rather not get in an arguement. As you can see, I can't seem to hold my own in a battle of words." She turned around to face him, a half-ashamed, half-amused look on her face. "The sad thing is where do we go from here? My wonderful conversational skills show themselves at last. Asshh, now you're going to think I'm a hypocrite. I can't even hold up my side of the conversation."

"No, no, it's been wonderful talking to you. I admire the fact you tried to argue your point, most lions would just said I'm right, you're wrong, the end. Plus, you put emotion into it...And I can actually see how the pleasantries open up a meaningful conversation, but if that's all there is then -" He stopped midsentance and shook his head, offering an apologetic, if vaguely amused smile.
"There I go again. Sorry, I'll stop now. I suppose after being so alone since the desert and losing Hisani I've just been waiting to had a decent talk with somebody. I was too zealous."

"well... ah... eh... I suppose you're right, yea." Major failure on her part and she had said he failed. Maybe she should have run off. Who knows. Whatever. Not much she could do about that. "I hope you don't consider this pleasantries ...or rude for that matter but... who's Hisani? If you don't want to talk about it, just tell me to shut up and I'll drop it." A defeated Laini was a nice Laini. The hard outershell was cracked and the gooey center was seeping out. It'd take a while to fix her right back up again. She couldn't help being nice until such a time.
