Honestly surprised, Occam stared down at the rabbit. His stomach fairly roared at him, he was so hungry, but he hadn't seen kindness such as this in so long . . .
Dipping his head, he wagged his tail gently, ocean eyes locking with Aion's leafy ones. "Thank you very much, sir . . . " Giving Petbe a small smile, Occam clamped his jaws around the dead rabbit and settled a small distance away to rip it to shreds.
As he bolted down the fresh, warm meat, his mind wandered, but it was a good kind of wandering. He was remembering what it felt like to be around wolves again.
However, as soon as he thought that, he remembered why he distanced himself from others, and his heart plummeted.
Because I always hurt them . . .

Aion gave an approving thump of his tail, nodding, "You're welcome," before splitting off part of the second rabbit for Petbe, and began to tear into the remainder for himself. It was the final addition to the day he needed to finally make him feel radiant again, and the long lost prowess and majesty of the once great alpha shone through as he finished his meat. He glanced down at his pup proudly as Petbe tousled with a leg.
Then he sat back on his haunches to study Occam. To the gray wolf he looked like a hungry teen in need of some relaxation and protecting, which he could readily provide given that the black wolf could hunt. Simply his survival in being a lone was proof enough of that, though from his appearance he may have been unsteady at it. At length, Aion decided that overall it would be good to have another wolf around. Perhaps slowly, bit by bit, he could regain the happy network he'd once had.
The memory made him smile warmly, a safe pack, a stable pack. He remembered what that was like all to clearly, and everyone got along, and they were the wisest wolves. Where exactly it had gone awry he refused to dwell on, but for the moment it was fairly obvious what he wanted to do, so he acted on it. Heaving to his feet, his body no worse for wear at the moment, the alpha padded quietly over to Occam and took a seat next to the lone, once he was finished with his rabbit. He looked at the forest first, and the grass, and then the sun and morning clouds, as though he were still pondering a decision that was in truth already made. After a time he spoke what was on his mind, softly so that Petbe might not become too roused by the prospect, "You could stay with us if you wanted. I am not made to be alone and neither, it seems, are you. You are welcome with us, Occam, provided I don't have to pick you up off of the ground daily." The last bit he said in jest, and smiled at the other wolf, a kind chuckle starting in the back of his throat.

Thankful for dark fur that hid his embarrassment, Occam's eyes fell to the ground. "Yeah, I'm sorry for that. It's just . . . " His voice trailed off, and he blinked; had Aion just offered what he thought he'd offered?
A . . . a home . . . ?
Then and there, he decided that explanations could wait. Especially when he saw the look that Petbe was shooting him from a few yards away. A look of excited hope.
"It won't happen anytime soon, I promise," he finished, smiling faintly. Then he dipped his head again in thanks to Aion's kindness. "Thank you . . . " Emotion choked him, and he almost didn't get them out. His pride not willing to let the old gray see the tears in his eyes, Occam barked and bounded away, looking like a huge streak of a puppy as he chased Petbe around the clearing.
"I'm staying, pup! Sure you won't get tired of me?"

The old wolf, feeling more like himself with each passing moment, lifted his proud head and smiled in a classic, stately matter. "I didn't think it would happen again, Occam." He watched the black wolf pounce off with newfound vigor, though the tears couldn't be hidden from sharp green eyes. Aion said nothing to show he'd taken note of them, he understood pride all too well. Still smiling, he watched Occam approach Petbe with the playfulness of a pup himself. This was what had really sealed it, the fact that his golden son and this new friend and.. family member? Yes, it could be considered that. They got along so well, and thats why Occam had been invited to stay. The old wolf had a good feeling he wouldn't regret the decision.
Petbe looked as though he had finally burst, yipping and tumbling and running from Occam and back and forth between his new friend and Aion, gold and white fur streaming like a flag in full wind. "YAY! Ihaveafriend! Inevergettired offriends!" He spoke hurredly between bounds, and finally tumbled right onto the black lone's forepaws, panting and wriggling with unending energy. Petbe tried to curl up between the big forepaws, but couldn't seem to get comfortable, or settle down, because he kept flipping this way and that in his excitement.

Smiling down at the little twisting ball of fluff, Occam sat on his haunches, placing one paw over the puppy's back to keep him from wriggling a whole into the ground.
"Good, because I don't want to leave for a while." That was an understatement, but the little puppy didn't have enough patience to listen to anything longer than that.
For the first time in months, he felt at home.
