After finding out this information, Mearia was comforted. She rested untill it was nightfall, the darkness would provide some cover to her escape from the facility.
When her nurse wasn't aware, she slipped out of her room, getting to a nearby nurses station. She had heard that the nurses often kept spare sets of uniforms, in case they got messed on by a patent. She quickly found a uniform that would fit. She had to hurry for she knew her missing presence would be noticed in a few moments. She never should have pressed herself so much when her child, Tesunie, was first born. The nurses had her on a tight watch.
As she walked out of the room in the 'borrowed' nurses uniform, she grabbed a cart that looked like it might be going to the new born rooms. From what she was told, the boys were all kept in the same room, and she would have to look through the charts on the crib to find her child. He shouldn't be too hard, seen as he had lighter skin than most, along with blue eyes. Truly amazing what one could find out from a nurse by casual conversation!

The birthing compound didn't actually have that many boy babies at the moment, and the comparatively lighter skin of her boy, plus the fact that he was one of the very youngest, made it possible for Mearia to find her child.
Getting the child in her arms, clasped warmly to her breast within the blanket that he had lain in, was easy enough. But as Mearia snuck out of the building where the babies were kept, she was suddenly detected.
A short sword came out of the darkness towards her, reflecting the low light from the building behind. The man holding it, a slave of course, averted his blow at the last minute. He fell to his knees in front of her, sword sheathed. "Forgive me!" he gasped. "I thought you were a...a..."
The baby gurgled in her hands, and the slave peeked up from beneath his bow.

"Umm, think nothing of it. You are dismissed." She says, in as authoritative of a voice as she could muster. It caught her off guard, but she tried not to let that stop her. She was still wearing the nurses uniform, so he must have thought she was a worker here. All the better for her.

The slave hesitated, and when he spoke again it was in a whisper. "I thought that you were a Conië... are you?" Looking from the baby to her, he seemed worried. "The babe should be inside... I..." He swallowed hard. "Do not send me away. I would have to report this..." Or else he would certainly get in trouble.

"Do not worry. They wanted to preform a few tests on this child. He will be back before you even notice him gone." She lied, hopping that the guard would fall for it. She was depending upon the rumor of the tests they would preform to determine magic potential. It was only a rumor to the lower classes, but rumor usually have some base in fact. "You may go back to your duties."
(Figured if the present has it now, then it must have been rumors back then, even if it didn't really exist.)

(cool!)
One does not get to as high and trusted a position as he was by being easily duped. Though he could fake it if he wanted.
"Yes, Ma'am, yes. Might you then be needing some help? My duties require me to report any unusual activity, but I am allowed to forgo that until you are no longer in need of my assistance."
What she said could be true, but testing seemed inhibitively more doubtful for a newborn.

She knew he wasn't falling for it, though maybe she could knock him out latter. She would have to step carefully around this guard. "You may follow, though I insist you stay out of my way." She placed her child into the cart carefully, using the soft towels to keep him warm. He was remarkably quick, almost no sound came from the child.
Now, I just need to find something to hit the guard to get him out of the way. I'm sure there is no way I can get out of here with him tailing me, and now that Tesunie is safe in the cart...
She looks around for something heavy, like a pipe or stand of some kind. Anything that looked solid. She needed to hit the guard hard enough to knock him out after all.

The slave stood up with several whispered thank yous. He cleared his throat as she began to look around. "If you are taking the child a long distance," he whispered, "it might be best to keep it in a wrap."
She would know what a wrap was, it was a long cloth that was wrapped around the waist and shoulders so as to create a sling for the baby. She was taught this while she was pregnant, since they did not know if she would have a boy or a girl.
"I... I would like to assist, not hinder. Thank you for this chance, my lady."

"Oh, it isn't very far." She lied, again. She seems to be getting less nervous about this the more she becomes committed. "I don't think a wrap will be necessary. We had best be heading or I will be late. Trust me, you wouldn't want to see the head nurse when she is angry." She starts to roll the cart now, heading to the main section of the hospital, where most of the facilities are. She couldn't go wrong here. If she was right, there were labs and other rooms on the other side of the building.

The slave followed to the side and somewhat behind her, keeping a distance of about two feet. He seemed rather meek and submissive compared to his words earlier. But as they came neared the other buildings, he asked in an unsure voice, "You...you aren't a Conië?"

(Conie? What is that? I don't believe I have seen a definition for that word, and if so, short memory span.)
By now, she had found her weapon. It was the metal handle to the cart. She had managed to wiggle it loose while they where walking.
(Rest of response waiting on definition of word. I get the feeling it means either rebel (or someone that doesn't belong) or nurse. One of the two is my assumption.)

(LOL your character doesn't know mrgreen It's a legend that is spread around birthing compounds, but very hush hush and generally not believed by the women)
When she didn't answer right away, he put a hand on his sword. "Conië, maybe you have never heard of them. They are cursed, forever without children, forever trying to get in after ours. When I first saw you, I thought... I thought I saw a horn on your head."

Before he could react any farther, she spins around, pipe in hand and clobbers him over the head. "I do too have a child! What a silly rumor!" If he still moves after her attack, she readies to hit him again, waiting to see if her surprise did the trick.
(Couldn't think of any other way to word it, though it is technically an NPC I just Auto-hit... sweatdrop )

The slave fell back in surprise, clutching the side-blow he'd just received to his head. The blow had surprised him because he hadn't known about her weapon, but now he was convinced that she was this Conië thing.
"Ah!" he complained. "Thief!"
He grappled for his sword, but was feeling a little dizzy from the blow.

She took the pipe and clobbered him once more. Even if he had a helmet on, he would still be reeling from the blow. "Where do you see a horn! Your the one that insulted me!" She says this partly for the insult, and to make it seem like she really was offended, though that was easy to show, seen as she was.
If he still insisted on trying to fight, she may have to hit his hand. She really didn't wish to hurt him, though she would have to at least get him to 'sleep' before she could go anywhere.
