Honestly, because smart characters are always less fun to watch for most people. Personally if that happened I'd laugh my a** off for probably at least ten minutes, rewind and watch again, but that's not ho characters are written. I thought the same thing in that fight but then who's to say Gaara hasn't encountered that before and has some counter for it. Maybe the demon has so much chakra that it protects the sand from it. Maybe Gaara could continually pull up more sand from the ground to renew his little bubble. If the fight went like that then Gaara would definetly outlast Sasuke in Chakra and win the fight.
Yep. I also saw that in order for Gaara to make more sand, he needs to use a handseal. If his Armor of sand is activated, then he would be trapped.
