Sad update from Sashanaru: Quote: Well, the update not so good.. the hospital *did* re-dislocate the arm yesterday. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/heather_dw/brianfracture2_02107.gif He is getting surgery tomorrow morning. He will never have a normal arm and will never have a full range of motion. It will always be stiff alot and he will most likely develop arthritis in it at some point. The doctor says at this point, the goal is just to function on it enough to eat, comb your hair and write. He says there is a small piece missing on the outside of the elbow and it's very strange and unusual fracture. I told hubby "we can rebuild you, we have the technology".

Tough news. neutral
When I was 18, I broke and dislocated my wrist really badly (think "S" shaped. Yeah). They had to put pins in my wrist and reset tons of the tiny little wrist bones. My wrist should be messed up, but after some physical therapy, I got back my full range of motion. The worst that happens now is occasional slight stiffness and that it pops sometimes.
What I'm saying is, even though it looks tough now, bodies are amazing things, as is the human spirit. I'm sure you'll be fine. 3nodding heart

Doctor's usually give worst case senerio. That and not having full range of motion is not the end of the world. All the injuries my friends and I have gotten, we definately don't have full range of motion in various body parts. You can't tell at all from the stuff we do.
Quick note on falling: there is a right way and a wrong way to fall. If your out on the ice like that and you lose it, take the fall. Just make sure your head doesn't bounce off the ground. You're better off just going with it and protecting your head. Trying to catch yourself is one of the best ways to hurt yourself. This sucks because your reflexes are wired up to try to catch you. Why just go with it? I'm about 190 pounds. Whats better, me trying to stop 190 pounds from hitting the ground with one arm, or me spreading the force of the impact along my entire body? Basic Judo, put into practice walking to class along the icy sidewalks of Harrisonburg, VA.
OK, this wasn't a quick note.
Chris, you MAKE SURE you tell the surgeon you want the best range of motion possible, and get well soon.

The docs always tell patients the worst. The really bad news is that youre in for a lot of painful rehab. Good news is that we are all here for you both! 3nodding
