Why did they trump this episode up like it was gonna answer big questions? JUST WHO FEEDS THOSE EVIL PROMO MONKEYS ANYWAY? Let them starve to death, you'll be doing the world a favor.
Also, Jack... Why, oh why, didn't you at least tell Cindy that Ana-Lucia was dead? You didn't need to explain exactly what happened. Hell, you could lie and tell the story of Ana shooting Shannon and it would be almost the truth.
Now, I figure this takes place after his wife divorces him. But. This explains nothing other than the ease with which he starts up his fling with Achara. WHY DID HE GET THE TATTOO? It makes no sense!
Ugh. When I get the DVD, I am so skipping this episode. I will recap it verbally, and warn against watching it.
Recap: Jack is boring, annoying, and stupid. He gets a tattoo. Also, he agrees to take care of Ben. Juliet gets branded, instead of the death penalty. Kate and Sawyer are boring, annoying, and stupid. They break up with Karl. And we don't visit the other Lostaways at all, and it sucks.
Oh, and they leave This Island Alcatraz. Yeah, it's about that exciting. And only vaguely better than Jericho, and then only because at least the characters didn't magically get from Washington, D.C. to Kansas in less than a day.

Who here thinks this episode is good, or moderately okay? confused I mean, c'mon, it was horrible! I'd be so upset if they keep this up. This show is too good to turn bad. Gah.
I want to see more Locke, Charlie, and the freaking French lady! If we're going to see what's up on the other island, can we at least know more about the others instead of pointless crap about Jack already? Jack isn't popular for crying out loud. neutral
And what about the noise in the jungle when they first came on the island, whatever happened to that anyway? Did I miss something?

lover of all food But, the scene in which Jack helps Juliet calm her burn with aloe was pretty nice of him...my heart almost kinda melted My heart kinda melted when Sawyer when talking with Carl and he says "Every now and then, you get a girl you....name freakin' stars with". I'm not sure, it's unlike me. And when will Ben start playing a role again? He's the best asset the third season has. It looks like next week is Hurley-centric, so it'll be two weeks before Ben gets the chance.

That's wonderful! It would certainly have saved me an hour. I spent the whole time just waiting for something interesting to happen, waiting for them to answer some huge question...ok, so we know where the captured people are and how Jack got his tattoo. Who cares?? Ugh.

I liked the Jack related parts better, because at least he's not being so whiny and "my daddy never loved me" in it. It shows that he actually has another side to his personality that isn't completely domitated by daddy issues. Then again, the plot of the flashback was rather cheesy in my opinion.
But I hated the rest of it. If there weren't Jack and Kate issues, there would be Kate and Sawyer issues. *sigh*
The other characters are way better!

I was dissappointed in their explination of Jack's tattoos, and Karl's of why they take children. I wish it was more elaborate.
Kate...well, she's just annoying as usual. Sawyer was singing in the beginning, which I found amusing, but then Kate pissed him off, so he was no fun this episode.
I want more of Locke, Hurley, Charlie and Desmond. More of the plot is focused around them now, what with Desi "seeing the future" and everything...I think they are going to go back and forth between the two. (Jack, Kate and Sawyer one week; Desmond, Charlie and Locke the next)

I've never been so disappointed in an episode. This one was horrible. The promo they gave us made us think we're actually going to get some real answers and then they give us a completely pointless flashback that doesn't progress the story at all, and they answer,...what exactly? The people who were taken were okay...What Jack's tattoo meant, and that the others live on our island...Wow...I was expecting something a hell of a lot bigger than that. Why did we need to know what Jack's, excuse me..Matthew's, tattoo meant anyway? We don't need anymore flashbacks of Jack..we need more from the other characters. I don't even like Claire that much but I would sure love to know something more about her. I came to school the next day and I got the same reactions from all of my friends...Just disappointing. They can't let Lost Jump the Shark...C'mon guys! Get JJ back in there and make it feel like season one again! The first six episodes of the 3rd season were great...It felt like Lost again...and now JJ is gone and it's turning out to this? D: I'll stop my rambling for now..but I sure hope next week's episode turns out to be better than this one.

*snerk* Maybe it has jumped the shark. Remember in Adrift? There was a shark there!
The problem is that the writers (or the producers) are enamored with their little love triangle, and most everyone else seems to be very 'meh' on the subject. So they continually put focus on it. Like, I know they wrote some of these before they aired the first six episodes, but... uh... didn't they listen to ANY of the complaining before? I mean, couldn't you have edited the last two episodes together? Not the flashbacks, obviously, but, dude, I can figure out that the flashback to Jack in Taiwan or wherever isn't Charlie's flashback, even if the previous scene didn't feature Jack. We're not stupid.
Well, I guess the last episode maybe would have been hard. But I bet this weeks' and next weeks' probably could have had the island stuff melded together.

It wasn't that I didn't like this episode, I just like a lot of other episodes tons more. I miss everyone else on the island like Hurley, Sayid, Claire, Desmond, Charlie, Locke, Sun, and Jin. I think it's interesting to see how Jack's relationshup with Juliet is playing out, but beyond that, I am totally sick of Kate, Jack, and Sawyer (no matter how attractive he may be).
Plus, we still don't know exactly why the children and some of the other people from season 1 were taken, we just know that they're not dead. Unless I missed something.
My friend and I were watching Lost together for this episode and the one part I really enjoyed was Sawyer singing the song sung in Jaws at the start of the episode, although my friend didn't get it...
I'm tired and I want to go to bed I had a little drink about an hour ago And it's gone straight to my head [at least i think that's how it goes]

[LadyPirate] I Sawyer was singing in the beginning, which I found amusing, but then Kate pissed him off, so he was no fun this episode.) Not only was he singing, but he was singing the song the guys sing in Jaws. For some reason I found that highly amusing.
And half-expected a shark to appear and eat 'em.

Maybe Sawyer did too. Maybe HE thinks they're jumping the shark. I just did a double-take because my Grandma used to sing that song. All the time. Before she lost her marbles. 8D
