Ready, Steady, Go!

During the Halloween Ball, we will have random games!
Any student may start a Random or Halloween game upon whim as long as it's fair and legit. BUT
(All for the "Greater Good!") We ask that your Halloween game be Harry Potter themed and Halloweenish, and that you post it in your Common Room first and have your housemates look it over, make suggestions, check for typos, etc.

House Points will be given out for superior Games!

Two Examples of games:
First example - just ok: "I will give out random door prizes. Not everyone will get one, it will be random. You could get a random item to a pocketful of gold. Please don't expect anything extravagant. If you get an item door prize, you will be sent a gift, if the door prize is gold, you will get a trade".

Second example - much better: "I will do a variation of 'Bobbing for Apples' called "Niffling for Gold" game in which anyone who writes the word Niffler in bold as the first OR the Last word on their post gets a spot available and a randomizer will pick how many gold galleons your Niffler brings back. The person with the highest number (most galleons) wins 500 gold!"

We have a great group of wonderous Hallowed (or Halo 'd ) Haven Halloween Helpers (Lady HealingHands' " H5"s) who will be running the Halloween Ball. They are available to PM if needed, and can also make suggestions and help you. We've got 2 Gryffindors, one Slytherin, one Hufflepuff and 2 Ravenclaws-- A big round of applause, please! Other News
New codes for the "Click a Pumpkin" banner. When Gaia blacklisted, then reinstated tinyurl, our pumpkin banner broke. I did a new one the works, the tinyurl link is for the image, not the destination. So please use the new one, code is posted here in the Banner thread.

As you know, San Diego, where Lady HealingHands and paraphernalia_101 both live is in the midst of devasting firestorms. Please see this post

LASTLY,the first post of this thread "Official Welcome to Haven Rules" has been re-written slightly. Read it now, and look there again on Halloween Eve to find a clue to a special Event.

*QUICK GUIDE TO THE BOO GIFTING THREAD*



TO HELP WITH ANY CONFUSION
A couple of you have PMed me saying you are a bit confused. Hopefully this will clear up your questions!

EVERY gift is a decoy gift, every comment in a profile is a decoy comment unless your gift has this message saying it's the official BOO gift.

Each decoy gift you send= one chance at the Gwee or Spree
Each decoy comment YOU post on someone's profile = one chance
Each decoy comment you receive on your profile = one chance
Each decoy gift you receive = one chance
Receiving the official Boo gift & appreciation = one chance
Sending the Boo gift and letter on to an active member = one chance

BUT you most return to this thread and number your post. post the amount you sent by checking the number of the post before you to receive your chance.
Don't wait til the last minute (Halloween at midnight)
Nothing posted after that will count for a chance. The last person who has the BOO gift must post the list as close to midnight but before 1 am November 1st.

Basically the decoys are sent to active and non-active members, but the real boo gift only goes to active members. Until you get the REAL letter,
you put decoys on profiles, and you can send and receive decoy gifts, just for the halibut. (fun) And the more you send, the more chances you get for the big prize!

FOR EXAMPLE:
You send out 5 Decoy letters, you receive two decoy gifts and the real BOO gift. You send the BOO gift & message to an active guild member. You have earned 9 chances! The post above you is #60. You list your post #61-69, and note you've sent 5 Decoys, received 2 decoys and received the Boo Gift, and sent it on. Tell us what you've received and something you'd like us to know about you.

And it's fun to post something about yourself, and we'd all like to know something about you that you think we don't know, but that's optional.

Just a reminder: while the BOO gifting is now CLOSED, we still have a (Tom) Riddle contest/Scavenger Hunt and the Halloween Orb Hunt open, both offering great prizes. They're open at least through the weekend. A note to Mods and Heads of House: you can enter these as well!

We'll announce the winners of the Art contests as soon as the judges' scores are in (probably at the end of the weekend).

The Ball, thanks to the H5s was lovely, and is still open. Music charmed and playing, Nibblements, chocolate frogs, Butterbeer, champagne, pumpkin juice, and pomegranate juice still being dispensed thanks to the House elfs and a few visiting hertasi who are helping out.

So feel free to grab a few friends, relax and unwind. But please be careful what you imbibe, especially if your metabolism has recently been undergoing transformations.

Warning

We have been receiving complaints of illiterate or semi-literate posting. This is a literate guild.
Demerits can be given to posts that are one week old (no more, no less) as follows:
Posts less than 3 sentences that have more than 5 spelling errors, and/or excessive illiteracy (failure to capitalize, etc) can have 5 points taken from their house total. Repeat offenders risk banning. Longer posts are given a little more leniency (7 to 10 errors).

Outstanding threads with spelling errors in their subject titles will not be given points

Chatterbox is exempt from demerits.
Role Playing is not, although it may be in the future.

Any student may PM Accio Funds to report a post a week old that is illiterate.

Any student may PM the poster as soon as they notice an illiterate post so the poster (housemate?) may edit and correct the post before it earns demerits.

A prefect may: Choose one outstanding or inspiring post or thread a week and give the poster 5 points. You may nominate more than one post or thread; some may not receive points, but the post you choose will for certain receive points. Please make the distinction clear in your PMs when you are choosing a post, and when you are nominating a post. Hunt for House Orbs

This hunt, which began on Halloween is open through the Thanksgiving weekend!
Here are the rules:

Scattered around Gaia are four Magical Orbs! Made by the same artisan who crafted the Triwizard tournament's golden eggs for champions,each Orb is a work of art with something special inside.

Near each orb is a code word, and a clue to the location of another orb.
Find all four of the orbs and PM LadyHealingHands with
1. The color of each orb,
2. The code word next to it
3. What's inside the orb.

A note to Mods and Heads of House: you can enter these as well!

We have 4 back from the Orb Hunt, which means those 4 folks have a 1 in 4 shot each at winning either a Nov 07 Letter OR a first edition evolving Corallus Egg! C'mon Haven!
