Alexa stared up at Maryke, now pinned on her back and exposed. Her hoodie was askew, exposing her bathing suit fully. She blinked back remaining tears, glaring up at Maryke. Alexa balled her hands into fists, relieving some of the tension around her slender joints. She was completely lost, her humanity seemed all but gone. Still, even though she was absolutely appalled and horrified about the entire situation, there was a soft spot somewhere in her.
It was telling her to do something she would never consciously admit to doing, but she did it anyway. Dragging one leg out from under Maryke, she got it around her and pushed her weight into it, getting Maryke to roll with her. Keeping one leg under her, cupping her lower back, she got Maryke onto her back and straddled her. Pressing her bare hands into the ground, she didn't let the monkey-like fingers release their grip the whole time. She glared down at her with a serious, intense gaze. "No." She said. By this time, she hadn't accepted what Maryke was, but rather knew it was still the same woman underneath. Something in her heart had a weakness for her, she couldn't fight it. "This is how it always ends." She hissed the words into the lemur woman's ear, knowing if she was really a lemur, she could catch the sound and the hidden tone of sweetness in it.
Alexa grinned slightly to herself before pulling back, staring into her eyes with another serious silence. They both knew she was right; she knew it somewhere in herself. It was just a matter of admitting it.

Maryke laughed, high pitched almost cracking. It was like all the life had been sucked from her and she was at her breaking point. "That right?" Of course she could get free at any time. Easily over power the other and get out of this unwanted grasp. But she was bating her time, more nefarious things displayed in her brain.
"Did you ever stop to think that for one SECOND I never meant what I said?" she hissed, "Whatever it was, whatever you THOUGHT it was....it was a mistake. A big ******** mistake." Finally she pulled herself up with ease, her maw spewing out the hatred and bitterment that was still leftover in her hurt. Hell her whole life she'd known nothing but pain. Everyone needed an outlet.
"I know what you did," she said, moving about so that she was was in a squat her tail twisting around to slowly slink towards Alexa. "You turned me in........DIDN'T YOU?"

Alexa could feel it, as if she was grasping something that was barely there anymore. Maryke was slipping. Slipping again. Last time, Alexa had managed to pull her out of it, but last time she was human. Now she was somehow transformed into this being. She didn't know how as of yet, but she knew it happened to her. This was a research facility... they must've done something to her. She just couldn't wrap her head around what.
She sat back as Maryke slipped out from under her, her bare legs pressed into the dirt. She watched her for a moment or two. No, this was wrong. She was just trying to break her, and she knew how to do it. Damnit, Alexa had to stop listening. She knew it was a lie. What she'd felt, what she'd seen in those all-too familiar hazels... the snuggles, cuddles... everything... that was real. Maryke couldn't lie her way out of this one. Before she could accuse her of lying, she was cut off.
Turned her in? Why would she turn her in. She was so surprised, her gaze softened for a moment. "What?" She tried to piece together what exactly Maryke was trying to say. Once she figured it out, she froze for a moment. How to work around this... how to convince her it wasn't as bad as she thought. "I did not turn you in." She said, and it was the truth. She hadn't turned her in or given her up... only said that Maryke had been involved with Mark Winters. She hadn't told them where she was, what she did... not even her last name as far as she could remember, but that was a long time ago. Her memory was fuzzy.

"Don't ******** around with me you little s**t!" The words came out harsh, more so then even she knew they would. But damnit she was mad! She had every right to be! It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out, that before her was the reason for all her troubles. Alexa was the ONLY one who could have given the FBI ANY kind of information, other then Mark or Maryke themselves. And that was pointless as it was their a** the boys in blue were gunning for.
So it had to be Alexa. And nothing else would change her mind. "You RUINED my life!" she spat, now standing up. She balled up her fists, and her monkey feet even. Her eyes burned in intensity and all she wanted to do was to hurt her, hurt for every damn thing that had went wrong since her 'sweet escape'. Throw love to the side. She hadn't known if she ever loved the girl, sure she'd said it that one solitary time. But that didn't mean she MEANT it. And nothing, and nobody was going to convince her that she did.
"you ruined my ******** life!" she repeated, all the curses shot out to show and exagerate her anger. Her tail began to jerk away from alexa and then straight up in the air just as Maryke swung a fist down upon the girl while her teeth were beared with her feet still clenched. She did it again and went to do it a third time before she suddenly twitched. Her body stilled and her eyes rolled to the back of her head before she landed back down on the ground with a heavy thump.
Clearly unconscious.

Alexa's eyes widened and filled with fear once again. Oh s**t. Maryke was coming after her. The anger in her was building, consuming her. Why, oh, why had Alexa come here? Poor Maryke had fallen subject to their research project, and Alexa might be more cannon fodder. And what was worse, Maryke was losing all sight of humanity and the rage was burning white-hot within her. Her body language screamed danger, but Alexa was frozen.
She couldn't run from her, not when she had the overriding feeling inside to run to her, capture her in her arms like she had that one night when the stress building up on her was too much for her to handle. Only now, this was Alexa's fault. All this trauma, all this passion and anger was her doing. Maryke was teetering on the edge, and Alexa was most likely the final push into oblivion. She watched her with shock as she actually raised a fist.
Sure, they'd physically fought before, but it always ended happy... at least, that one time it had. Those other times... no. She had managed that one time, their last time, to pull Maryke to say what they had both been feeling since the very beginning; that morning after the awful night Alexa spent in the rain. No matter what Maryke said, it was a lie. Alexa knew that this feeling that engulfed them and pushed them so far was love. Not passion, not anger, but love.
And she was so consumed by this revelation, and so focussed on convincing herself of this, that she didn't see the punches coming. One connected solidly across the arch of her cheekbone, and she fell back, snarling as the searing burn of the blow began to set in. The second missed, due to how she had retreated after the first. At the third attempt, Alexa's sudden flare of anger was sedated. Suddenly, Maryke was convulsing--and it looked painful. Before Alexa could figure out what was happening, Maryke was unconscious on the floor as if something had shocked her.
Great... what now? She couldn't just leave her here in the middle of the path. Someone would find her! Something bad might happen. If Maryke had been living up in the trees, she would be exposed here. Mustering up her strength, she rose and brushed herself off. She took Maryke under the arms--the only way she could manage--and began dragging her dead weight toward the clearing of the sand. Maybe a little ocean water would revive her. The going was slow, and Maryke was heavy while unconscious. Alexa settled for halfway down the beach, on the sand. She flopped down, exhausted by the effort. Maybe she could catch her breath for a moment before fetching the cool water to bring her back to her senses.

She was someplace else. Some other time, some other feeling other then the unrequited anger she had been upon loosing consciouness. Back in her loft in the city, the bright lights peaking in through an open window. Soft carrasses, a familar feminine scent. Maryke was in heaven. But it wasn't because this was a decidely female quality about her, it was because...well she couldn't place it. Some inner feeling. Some sense of rightness in all the wrong she'd ever know. But then suddenly things began to fade away, change entirely. The scene of her loft began to distory and deteriote until she was cursed with the bright natural light of the sun. The city noises, the car honks, sirens, and people all faded into crashes and waves and bird song.
Two hazel eyes popped open as a low moan escaped her maw. She was almost at peace. Almost. But then bitter reality sank in. She titled her head, staring around stupidly until she realized Alexa was staring down at her. She couldn't say anything as her jaw was still lagging, but coud only stare up at the woman she hated.

Alexa leaned forward, her hands on her knees as she caught her breath in the hot and humid tropical atmosphere. She'd have to get used to this, she supposed. She looked down at Maryke, who was out cold for a good few minutes. It was then that she really got to take the time and study her. There was fur covering almost all of her smooth, perfect skin. She studied the distorted facial features--most closely the muzzle. That mus've been painful to grow into, with the bones contorting like they did.
And it was just as she was about to lean in and touch the fur that Maryke woke up. Seeing her stir before she opened her eyes, Alexa pulled back quickly and simply stood over her. For a moment or two she stared back down at Maryke, amost as stupidly as she had been looking up at her. After a while, she opened her mouth. "...Guess you couldn't handle being so wound up, hmmm?" She asked teasingly, a familiar sparkle lighting her eye.

"No," she said quietly, sputtering the reply before slowly sitting up. Her head was swimming. She had tried to keep herself in check but anger won over any ounce of good sense in her. Another moan escaped her maw. She must look like some damn freakshow to Alexa. Just great. Pushing herself up completely she finally to her feet, albiet on shaky faltering legs. ******** labs. She hated this place, hated the people, every goddamn thing about this ******** island! Damn, her head was killing her. Not like it matter because..
"we're stuck here," she muttered, the growls and hisses still laced within her vocals. "All of us. You, me, every damn person here. You think I just can't handle it?" she laughed, loudly, "No honey. I got them workin' my brain," she said waving towards herself. "This is no island paradise. It's a ******** labcage, and we're the lab rats. All of this..." again she waved once more, indicating her now almost fully animal body. "It's going to happen to you too, maybe worse.....hopefully worse."

Alexa was going to offer to help her up. Even if Maryke seemed to be hating her, and Alexa was (at least at some much deeper level) suffering from the trauma of all of this, she still cared for her enough to be concerned. When she got to her feet, Alexa was still concerned but she kept it to herself. No need to show her too much emotion. That would be a big mistake on her part. She'd learned by now that Maryke would use every ounce of passion the younger girl had against her.
She froze again, listening to Maryke's words. Someone... someone had triggered that bout of unconsciousness? But... how? She frowned, taking a step back in disbelief. She could see that the testing her was certainly cruel and unusual, especially with the ghastly things they had done to Maryke... but everyone was going to turn into something? Even her? "But... but how?" She asked quietly, her eyes wide with fear. She suddenly longed very much for nothing more than a long soak in the tub in her room to clear her thoughts. This was piling on underneath, and the storm within her was just waiting to break loose.

"You're talking to a girl that barely made it out of highschool," she countered gracing her shoulders with a small shrug. "I don't know. I really don't even care how they do it. But obviously they can.....I mean," she waved towards herself. "This isn't the latest fashion trend."
She sighed and moved away, her tail slowly swishing back and forth still in its usual place near her head. "Apparently there's some ******** up doctor that runs this place. Good ole boy with a curiosity streak and too much money to burn. We're just ******** lab rats, Lexy," she repeated before that devilish smile she bore when irritated and vengeful returned. "Though I am going to take some satisfaction in seeing you suffer like I did....and believe you me, cutie....you're going to WISH I killed you back home after the first change hits you."

For some reason, her counter comforted her somehow. That careless shrug of a shoulder was so characteristic of her madam. She was relieved more than horrified, but only because she couldn't be horrified. Not yet. It wasn't real yet. Oh, no, after... that night, when the dreams--nightmares--consumed her, then it would be real. But now, she felt comforted in the fact that Maryke was still herself somewhere underneath the fur. She almost argued that the fashion statement she was making was indeed vogue, but she bit her tongue metaphorically speaking.
For a moment, she could feel that warm connection start to flow again between them as she watched the lemur girl move, the tail swaying as if it was a natural part of her. Granted now it was, but it almost seemed to Alexa as if nothing had changed. The outside, yes, but the inside was the same. And then, of course, Maryke had to cover up the glimpse she suddenly became aware of. With a scowl, Alexa folded her arms across her chest and turned her head away. She had even called her Lexy. It bothered her that Maryke was so deeply angered by the chain of events. Who wouldn't be, really... but Alexa wasn't going to fully believe it yet. She needed more substantive proof than Maryke like that. "I'm quite happy where I am, thank you." She said curtly in retort to Maryke's threat. "And, by the way, I don't even think it'll happen to me. Lab rat or not, it couldn't be THAT painful, even if it did happen. Nice try, Maryke. This is going to be cake."
Spoken like a true woman in denial.

She chuckled, oh now that bit was amusing. "You see me standing here, fur, tail n' all......and yet you think YOU'LL be the one spared, the one with the ******** brains to get out of this?" She laughed again, her tail thrashing back and forth like it had been during the previous spout of anger. "Trust me....everyone tries. Everyone thinks they'll be okay. Hell, I was ready to give up everydamn thing I owned just to get in a phone call. And look how that turned out?"
She suddenly stopped, her hazels lighting up as if she just now was remembering something. ".......what happened after I left....speaking of?"

Her eyes never left Maryke as she went on her little rant. Yes, everyone must have gone through this same stage, and Alexa found this logical. However even though this made perfect sense, it still seemed like a fine belief system to follow. Afterall, Alexa was sexy and young and she was sure there were a lot of studs around. If this was a research facility, some people might be guinea pigs later than others, so maybe there were still some human men around to toy with.
The way that Maryke was acting made this out to be the end of the world. There was no way it could be that bad. With a room as nice as she had, there had to be something good within the island's boundaries, and certainly they'd be treated in the highest regard. Or, at least, she hoped so.
At Maryke's sudden question, Alexa instinctively shrunk back some. It was like she was going back to being under Maryke, metaphorically speaking. "Nothing happened after you left."

"Oh really?" She said, huffing a bit. "So that ISN'T my perfume I smell?" She leaned closer, taking in a big whiff. "The clothes...the sunglasses, oh please Alexa. What? You think you're me now?" she laughed at that, "Oh I'm sure you just LOVED me gone. Taking over all that money, all those girls. It was a mistake to give you the position you had. I didn't know you were going to back stab me."
Her tail twitched again and she wanted nothing more then to beat Alexa into a blood pulp. But the 'fool me once...' logic was still playing around inside her brain. Convulsing and then passing out afterwards wasn't exactly the best feeling in the world. "You wanted me, but you couldn't have me....so you became me, that it? How very soap opera..."

She listened, but it was half-hearted. She knew that Maryke wouldn't accept that nothing had happened, but Alexa hadn't meant absolutely nothing had happened. She just didn't want to tell her about the whole stink that was going down back on the West coast. It didn't matter anyway; now they were both trapped here. Rather than answering, she turned her back for a moment, composing herself. The words and comments she made stung Alexa, cutting deep and she needed a minute to collect before she answered the real question at hand.
"After you left I waited to hear from you. I got the note you left in your loft, but you never called. Your cell was dead, so I was worried something had happened to you. I ran in your absence because I had to, not because I wanted to. I thought it was what you would have wanted. Such a big empire shouldn't just crumble to the ground because of an unfortunate circumstance. Yes, I took over for you, but I didn't become you." She turned back again, giving her a warning glare. "I would never do something so childish as that. Yeah, I wanted you, but why the hell would I want to be you?! I like being me, Alexa. Being you wouldn't fulfill any fantasy I ever dreamed."
She took a pause, her eyes dropping as her gaze softened. She took in a deep breath, letting it out in a slow sigh. "The FBI came after me, so when I got a note from what I thought was you, I was beyond excited and relieved. I guess that was a false hope afterall..." she trailed off, focussing on some far off speck in her memory, imitated by a single grain of sand far off on the beach's shore.
