Ean continued to chase her. Chase chase! Fun! Until, that is, they ran into one of his uncles that was visiting Ben. Erik. If there were a creepier Arrikanez, one would be surprised. Dressed all in black, The left side of his face covered over with black hair. His eyes dark as night, pinpricked with stars. The midnight sky in his gaze. He held up a hand, and stopped both the animals in their tracks - freezing them to the spot.

Ean struggled against his uncle's incredible power for maybe a minute before giving up, and going limp - willing to take whatever would come next.

If Aure ever got a wish, it would not be for the gift of flight. And that is why she was doing a jig inside her head when Erik froze them- though she realized that she was probably in a lot of trouble. But, how was she to know that the book would turn her into a dove or whatever she was? She settled into her little frozen space and waited for the power to go away.

Erik let his power fade after maybe three minutes, having given the children a bit to calm down. His voice was not verbal, but in both their heads. Even Aure's.

~ It appears I will have to tell Ben that you cannot play well with others, Ean. ~

His voice may have been creepy, but there was a playful tone to it as well, and the power associated with it was no malicious. Out from the shadows behind one of the doors stepped Erik Arrikanez, the most powerful of the current with the sole exception of his twin - Evel. But Evel was not who faced them.
His hair was black, and his reminded one of the midnight starry skies. He was blind, but that didn't stop him from being a good uncle, and kneeling to stroke Ean's head while he changed both of them back to normal. He scooped Ean up in his arms, and held him. The toddler seemed to have fallen asleep somewhere between ground and up.

"He does play well!" Aure protested from her spot on the ground. "It was my fault tha' I got turned into a birdy, not Ean's..." She tucked her knees into her chest and gave Erik the biggest-eyed look she could manage at the time. But she gave up on that fairly quickly- possibly she remembered he was blind? After a moment of blank-eyed contemplation, she tugged gently on the hem of Erik's pants.

"Misser Erik, can I ask you a question? Please, please?"

Erik blinked slightly, and canted his head to one side - not quite sure what she wanted, or why she wanted to ask HIM of all people. But he nodded.

~Of course - what is it I may help you with?~

Once again, he spoke without speaking.

Aure gave her friend an apologetic look. She didn't mean to steal attention from him, but she had to ask- "Why do people die? Do we have to?" There wasn't a lack of thought behind the question. It was as if she had been spending a lot of time contemplating it recently.

The boy sighed, and set down Ean, as he slid into a seated position on the floor. It wasn't so very long ago that a certain Strife had asked him the selfsame question. But Strife had asked it because he knew he was dying. To this little girl, he would have to procure a different answer. Once more, he spoke mentally.

~ Death, even though it is a sad thing, is a necessary thing. In order to die, we must live, and in order to live, we must die. There are varying beliefs on this subject, but the one that I subscribe to is reincarnation - that is, the cycle of a new life after death. There are many different beliefs WITHIN this system as well, but there is no true telling of what lies beyond the final gate. Life is a journey, and death is its end. It is a simple fact of nature that all that lives and breathes must one day die. Even myself. ~

She sighed a little and scooted over to sit near Ean. Dying did not seem like much fun, it made you go insane and kill people. Or it made you go to sleep with your head cut off so you wouldn't wake back up. "But one of my mommies died and she didn't go to sleep, and the other one died and she got her head cut off so she wouldn't wake back up," she said musingly, with her elbows on her knees and her chin in her hands. "Those guys in the movie died..."

Another thought seized her, and she shifted tracks to "Why aren't you talking out loud?"

Erik laughed slightly, and shook his head when he heard her describing vampires. Some species are immune to this thing called death. Apparently, this little girl didn't know that. He calmly explained.

~ Some that are not of this world are immune to the final reward - Death - and therefore do not die when they are called. Some fear these beings, and attempt to separate their heads from their bodies in order to ensure the death. And as for the other... I am telepathic. I prefer speaking mind-to-mind much more than speaking with my lips. ~

Oh, well that was quite alright then. As long as it wasn't some kind of uberweird thing that never happened (to anyone but Aure). She stretched, trying to reach her toes. "Is it fun to be telepathic?" She was busily trying to think of ways to guard her mind without resorting to a tin-foil hat. (But didn't that only block aliens? Hunh. Hunh.)

"Why are you being so quiet, Ean?" Aure gently gave him a little nudge.

The creepy one's hand shot out to grab her wrist before she could move to touch Ean.

~ He is asleep, child. He fell asleep the moment I picked him up - leave him be. ~

"Sorry," Aure whispered. "I didn't notice." She sighed and stood up, brushing off imaginary dust as she did so. "I better go home. Ku will be worrying, I think but I don't know."

The boy nodded, then thought for a moment. He reached into his pocket to pull something from it - a small black box. He smiled, and handed it to Aure.

~ Do not open this. I will contact you when it is safe and proper for you to do so. DO NOT LOSE THIS BOX. ~
PostPosted: Wed Mar 14, 2007 5:31 pm

"I won't!" She tucked it carefully into her pocket. "I'll put it right in my blue box at home, promise!" After a moment of what looked to be very careful consideration, Aure hugged Erik around the knees and waved. "I'm gonna go home now," she chirped. "Bye-bye, mister~"

Erik nodded as the girl walked off, and smiled at her, which was odd, considering he was blind, and couldn't see her. He remembered something, and sprinted to where he could see her disappearing into the woods again. He called out at the top of his mind-lungs.
~Very well. Be careful on your way home. And remember... DO NOT open that box!~
