Yuuyami Itami I feel for you. One of our percussionists just learned to read music last year. We're juniors, and he started playing in...uh...fourth grade...yeah... Our percussion is pretty well trained, except for when the choir kids are in class. But they act up every once-in-a-while too. *huggles* There's a girl in my band's percussion section who can't read music at all. It's sad. Our percussion section's better than they used to be, though. Once someone in percussion threw a freakin' raisin at the director. It was bad. He yelled and cussed and stuff...

our percussionists are ok this year...our BD can get a bit testy tho...
Last year, in my band class, the percussionists were always complaining about everything...

Of our four percussionists (yeah, four. xd But we're a middle school band, so I guess it's okay) only one of them is horrible. The only one that's in my class is John, and he used to play trumpet. He just started percussion this year, but he's actually really good.
Onto the seventh graders. Alisa, the only girl, is pretty good- I don't hear her play alone too much, but in the winter she was really good on the drum set. Then there's Asa, this really tall kid. He's good, too. And then there's some other kid, I don't remember his name...he's not horrible, but he's not good. (He couldn't even keep the beat. I've never played percussion, and even I knew how to play his part. That's just sad.)
Our band doesn't have many people who don't work hard, and I think everyone can read music...at least, I hope so.

I totally understand. We have a fan-freaking-tastic percussion section...except for that one kid. He left the band for a year, and then wanted back into the band, and the jazz group, and the senior choir and the symphony orchestra. He didn't learn how to play some of the instruments properly, at least 5 minutes of our rehearsal is spent solely on him. ARRRGH!! stressed

We have like 20 of them. they are not horrible but they stink. most of them play snare. They are too loud and they cant even keep the beat. Our marimba person can kind of read music. it is krazy. lucky for me my brother cant keep a beat. or any thing. I think he shall make a great percussionest.

Ah, I know what you mean. I gcan't practice at the begining of class because the percussion section is so loud, that I can't hear myself play.
When ever my BD is pranked, he blames it on the percussion class (he's never wrong)
About three months ago, a percussionist named Andrew was digging through the percussion closet. Since loosing stuff was never new for them, I quickly lost intrest. I turned later to see a milk carton shoved in my face, and Andrew proudly stating, "Hey! I finaly found it! This has been in that closet for about a month!" Gag. xp The percussion closet is a dangerous place... ninja

I feel you. I was a percussionist in our high school band. A loud noise or physical contact is required to grasp a true percussionist's attention. XP

The percussionists at my school are idiots. Most of them, anyways. A few of them are pretty nice and get stuff done (the ones who also participate in jazz and honor groups are usually the productive ones). Though, our percussion director doesn't help, either.
Today, we had the percussion section with us for the first time for a run-through of festival music (which we perform tomorrow). Almost none of them had music, one actually talked back to our BD in a disrespectful way... needless to say, the BD was extremely ticked off. He gave them a lecture after class, and I warned a couple friends of the BD's mood who had band the period after me.
