Ah, she was an interesting mare, alright. Too much on her plate, not enough knowledge about what else was out there...it seemed like a mindset destined to lead to continuing depression and misery. Perhaps that diagnosis was a bit tough, but Haru had come to realize that openness and the ability to move on were important elements of life.
So it was with a great deal of amusement that he inclined his head at Dementia in acquiesence of her gratitude, though it was obvious he thought it unecessary.
"No need to thank me for pointing out the obvious, DeeDee. Maybe it doesn't seem that way to you yet, but spend that much time out on your own and every day you continue to survive will remind you that the way you are now has more than a few things going for it."
Sage words, not really; but intent was all that was needed, sometimes. Why beat yourself up for things you can't control?

"You say that with the voice of experience, Haru." Deedee remarked. She was swiftly recovering from her mental ordeal, and a gleam of interest shone in her eyes as she met Haru's own. She had noticed that Haru seemed rather quiet about himself, but this comment seemed to be a suitable enough segue for the conversation to shift towards him, and Deedee was curious. While she wouldn't pry if he refused to talk, she did want to know what he'd experienced that made him capable of saying exactly the right thing to help her begin to solve her problems.
She tried to look as attentive and open as possible, ears pricked towards him, and head tilted slightly to one side in an inquisitive pose.

It might have been an innocent question, or it might have been a subtle attempt to fish for information. The specifics didn't matter that much, as Haru's answer would have been the same regardless.
"It is." However, beyond that he didn't offer any information. He'd never been one to delve into his personal life with anyone, so he didn't really feel inclined to start now. A trifle unfair maybe, considering how much she'd just told about herself...but not everyone conducted themselves in the same fashion. And he himself never judged.

"Oh." Deedee replied, and subsided, not exactly sure what to say. Well, it was his choice, and she wouldn't force him to talk.
After what she felt was an awkward silence, she decided to try a different topic.
"So, um, is it always winter here?" she asked, looking out through the canopy of pine needles to the glaring white beyond. She could see that her hoofprints had been blown over by a rather brisk wind, and was once again grateful for the refuge of the trees. "It seems like a nice place to stay, but I just can't keep eating dried grass."
She shivered at the remembered taste, and her wings thrummed for a moment, as if to carry her away from the thought.
((Sorry about the delay!!! sweatdrop *headdesk*))

At Dementia's "Oh", Haru had simply shifted slightly to make himself more comfortable, outwardly taking no notice of the silence that had suddenly sprung up. It was apparent that she hadn't expected him to be so uncommunictive, but he wasn't about to break longstanding habits, not for a random reason. So he simply took the silence in stride; it was something he was used to, after all.
However, he got the impression that Dementia was not; at her seemingly random question he glanced over at her, a slight touch of surprise visible on his otherwise bland features.
"Actually, it really isn't. No more than it anywhere else, anyway; there's summer and whatnot, just not now. It's winter, though I'm pretty sure it won't be for too much longer."
That question had Haru regarding Dementia with interest once again. "You really aren't from around here, are you?"
