Another key element to summoning is mediums. In the first KH, and many other RPGs, most summons need a medium through which they are obtained. Mushu and Fireglow, Diablos and the lamp. Some summons will naturally require a medium to obtain.

This wll depend entirely upon the summos we devise and how we plan them. Keep in mind summons are not easy to get, so the vast majority of summons will be discovered as time goes on and in diverse places.

I think it'd be amusing to do quests for certain summons.
Kind of like in FFX, how you couldn't get the extra summons like Anima and the Magus Sisters & Yojimbo etc. unless you went to the temples that weren't on Yuna's pilgrimage.
Or in certain Items you can obtain from certain characters playing in this game.
Like say the 4 of us who were here, you, Axel, Star, and I were given oh I dunno each a different item for a summons. To obtain that specific summons the other characters would have to say something specific like a code. We'd obviously not have a limited amount to the items. I can get Mac-chan to make the looks for the items too ^^~~
That's how you got Vincent as a party member in FFVII so that might work too ^^~~

Augh, why'd that have to put the quote and edit buttons right next to each other? Sorry, accidentally edited your post there but it's good.

I think I follow you there and it makes perfect sense, but I'm not sure I follow the code thing. Can you elaborate a little on that?
Also, Knights of the round would make a great summon, we just need to decide now on how to plan it and such.

The code thing like to get Vincent as a party member you had to imput a code into a safe to even get the key to his door.
That's what I mean. Like they would have to state a specific phrase or combination of numbers or some such ^^~~

I'm glad you liked the idea though xD
and yesh KotR would make a kick a** summon too ^^~~

Okay, I gotcha. At first I thought it some overly complex system of getting summons. Yeah, that'd be cool. There are all kinds of things we can do to get summons. The more diverse the better!

My question for the summons / Drives is once a summon / drive is there only one person that can summon or use that drive or can multiple people use the same summon / drive?
I think you'll be able to use the same thing as someone ells, but i just wanted to make sure and to clear it all up.

I thought i'd ive a small list of Posable summons from FFX an a little discription of them... the damage is wrong for this guild but i'll leave it in there for refrence i suppose....

VALEFOR :
-------
Valefor is a flying Aeon, which means he have a high Accuracy rate. That means he is pretty good to dodge attacks and Valefor his pretty quick too.

Valefor's unique attack is Sonic Wings, it's not really strong, a regular attack hurts more, but it has a chance to delay a fiend's turn.

Valefor's Overdrive is Energy Ray. It's a powerful light beam that deals damage on all the enemies. You can also find a second Overdrive for Valefor.

Valefor's Second Overdrive : Once Yuna first joins your group, go back into Besaid and talk to person behind counter at the item shop (it doesn't matter if you buy anything or not). She will tell you something about her dog digging up something. Go talk to the dog in the hut closest to the temple on the right. The dog will give you something mangled and torn, which teaches Valefor the Energy Blast Overdrive. This Overdrive is almost twice as powerful as Energy Ray so it's a far more effective attack.

To make Valefor's Overdrive do more than 9999 HP damage, you will need to find Yuna's Ultimate Weapon, the Nirvana.

IFRIT :
-----
. Ifrit is good for one thing, he starts with the Fire magic, so he can heal himself by casting Fire on himself. It will give you HP instead of damaging you.

Ifrit's Unique attack is Meteor Strike, it's a non-elemental attack that attacks only one fiend.

Ifrit's Overdrive is called Hellfire, it attacks every fiends on the field and it deals massive damage on every enemies. You can do more than 9999 HP of damage by finding Wakka's Legendary Weapon, the World Champion.

IXION :
-----
Ixion replaces Ramuh from previous FFs. He has a very high defense and you can use him as a bait for a fiend attack.

Ixion's unique attack is the Aerospark, which cause non-elemental damage on a single fiend. This attack his also like a Dispel, because it removes statuses like Haste, Protect and Shell.

Ixion's Overdrive is called the Thor's Hammer, it attacks every fiends with a Lighting elemental attack. It also attacks every enemies on the field and to break his 9999 HP of damage, you will need to find Kimahri's Spirit Lance.

SHIVA :
-----
She is a powerful Aeon that uses Ice Elemental for her attacks.

Shiva's unique attack his the Heavenly Strike, it attacks one enemy and delays the fiend turn. The attack also inflict physical damage on the fiend.

The Queen of Ice Overdrive is the Diamond Dust, it freezes every fiends on the field and Shiva breaks the Ice by clapping her fingers. You can deal more than 9999 HP of damage by finding Lulu's Legendary Weapon, the Onion Knight.

BAHAMUT :
-------
The last of the Aeon you can get in the story FFX, Bahamut is an almighty dragon with powerful strength and defense. Bahamut starts with powerful spells like Firaga, Wateraga, Thundaga and Blizzaga.

Bahamut's unique attack his called Impulse. It attacks every enemies on the field and deals great damage. The only disadvantage of that attack his that you lose a turn after you have used it.

Bahamut's Overdrive is the Mega Flare, which fires a destructive beam attack. It deals 9999 HP of damage and you don't need to find any items to make him break that limit. It will break itself on its own.

YOJIMBO :
-------
Yojimbo doesn't have any Overdrives attack, but it has three unique attacks, the Daigoro, the Kozuka, Wakizashi and the Zanmato. Yojimbo attacks fiends depending on how much you paid to get his services. You can make Yojimbo break his 9999 HP of damage barrier by finding Auron's Ultimate Weapon, the Masamune.

ANIMA :
-----
Anima, the most destructive Aeon in the game FFX.

Anima's unique attack is called Pain, it has a high chance of causing instant death on a single enemy.

Anima's Overdrive is called Oblivion, it's one hell of an Overdrive, since it attacks all the fiends on the field with multiple non-elemental attacks.

THE MAGUS SISTERS :
-----------------

The names of the Magus Sisters' Special attacks are Razzia (Sandy), Camisade (Cindy), and Passado (Mindy). In Razzia, Sandy shoots daggers of fire at her opponent, in Camisade, Cindy uses a column of water to fire herself into the air and onto an enemy, in Passado, Mindy will shoot 15 stingers at a single enemy, this is the most powerful special attack of all Aeons because - if Yuna is properly leveled - each stinger will inflict up to 99,999 damage.

The Magus Sister's Overdrive is called the Delta Attack, the three sisters must be in Overdrive. You will see a new command called Combine Powers!. Then, the three sisters will unleash a powerful Overdrives on all the enemies.

Hmm, summons are gonna be hard to get in the RP anyhow...they will be rare...but I have questions on that subject myself...then again I don't like to count on summons too much...I never used Yuna from FFX and it isn't because she was ugly and had freakish eyes sweatdrop never...erm anyhow I think the summon system will be...for more exprienced users...I am sure just getting one summon will be hellish enough but having a huge number of them...yeah I am sure no one will have very many summons.
Oh and I have noticed something...with all of the summons that are being taken into thought about making for the RP they are offensive we don't have any summons that are like...well Bambi aka aid summons that give us stuff...MP bonus like Bambi for examble...I dunno I just sort of noticed this and was all like "Hmm"
And Parami Ifrit Shiva and I think Bahamut are being consistered for summons...I never liked Ixion...stupid horse thing...grrr...I hate lightining...ya know...as in an element...not for real...*edges away from the subject then runs*

As a matter of fact, Bahamut, Shiva, and Ifrit are the top three on the list. And about offensive summons: do you really think Winnie the Pooh has any offensive capability?

I thought I had elaborated on the Pooh-bear summon earlier - guess I haven't. Well here it is then. And just for the record, I originally heard a variation of this idea in the Inverted Hearts forum, a website dedicated to freeware Kingdom Hearts game in the making (we'll post the link somewhere). The idea was that Pooh, since he his in-game elements have never been offensive, would tag along with his summoner and offer him health-replenishing honey.
And though chocobos can attack, they are best suited for safe and efficient travel. Gold chocobos can cross any terrain, too, even bodies of water!
And on top of that, summons don't necessarily have to be attackers, even if combat is their forte. Flying or swimming creatures can provide transportation or serve as diversions. Strong ones can offer manual labor. The key to using summons to their full potential in this RPG is to think outside the box.

We'll keep tabs on those proposed and list the most interesting/popular/useful ones in the first post.

I'm not sure how many people can use a summon. Maybe some will be limited and others won't. We really don't know - it's up to everyone to decide. It's a broad topic.

I never really used non-offensive summons--but Parami is only considering the FFX aspect of those summons.

(I'll use FFIII as an example since I just finished playing that one)
Shiva
Attack one~ Icy Glare-attacks one enemy with medium ice attack
Attack two~ Hypno Beam-confuses one enemy

Final Attack(can only be used while in a Summoner Job) -Diamond Dust

Ifrit
Attack one~ Flames of Fury--attakcs all enemies with medium fire attack
Attack two~ Recover--fully heals entire party.

Final Attack(can only be used while in a Summoner Job) -Hellfiire

So, they usually have two attacks that are chosen randomly to use; unless in a Summoner class then they automatically use the Final Attack every time ^^~~
I think It would be good to incorperate all their attacks and not just the most basic ones.

I've been thinking about the non offensive summons up mana / up health / travel / distraction / other uses
I think that is a great idea and i didn't mean for my last post to be seen as i'm only considering FFX... i was just in my English class and had some time to kill so FFX was the easiest to do....
There are of course limitless summons that could be done and be useful Like I'm not sure if your limiting summons to only monsters / living beings
I could summon a broom a pan a tent what ever i needed within reason with a 'spell' like that (i'm not sure your counting it as a spell)
So i guess before i continue thinking about this i should know
Is summoning limited to summoning beings or can we summon items as well (Of course healing things and food items wouldn't be much help cause after the summon is gone so are what ever was drank / eaten)

Summons are animate objects. Not all of them are technically alive, but they are animated and function on their own.

Summoning inanimate objects is another skill entirely, and surprisingly less common than the other method. Regular summoning is hard work, so this alternative would be equally challenging and much rarer. Few, if any, player characters would have this option, but a standard "summon" could be an ability in the future.
