Rylenn kept himself from bursting out laughing. In the end, it turned into a snerk. "Please excuse me.. but that should never be uttered from your lips, Dante. It.. it simply isn't right." He smiled gently and tugged at a crow's beak playfully before offering it a treat.
"Something.. no one else knows..." He looked at his tattoos. "I have a fairly bad memory. Especially when it comes to personal events.. The only thing... that has been able to say with me... is the image of my mother.. cracked out on some new drug... letting anyone in passing use her in any manner of their choosing. I stole her money.. and didn't look back." His mouth looked like he wanted to go on.. but he refused to let it.
No.. that was something no one would ever know.

"I know," Dante said, and was about to voice his need for a cold shower when Rylenn's quiet voice interrupted him.
He sat there a moment. His heart went out to this boy, it really did. This child that had been rejected by humans, simply because...Dante allowed himself to breathe. In, out, in.
"....I see."
He paused a moment. "You'll have to enlighten me about this 'drug' you were talking about." He had only the faintest idea of its negative attributes. As an Elf he only heard the best of what humans said....

"It's used by some humans to forget problems... or to feel good. It creates a dependency and soon the person is unable to function without the drug in their veins. It can be either natural or manufactured, though manufactured drugs have more of an addiction factor.." He spouted the knowledge like a textbook. He looked at Dante and smiled gently.
"I've been here too long.. thanks.. for being there, Dante... I should get back.." He went for his shoes.

Dante nodded. "I see. ...I never knew 'drugs' could be that bad," he murmured thoughtfully. "Or that...."
He looked up as Rylenn started to leave. "You sure you want to go? I...I have a couple of magic tomes I'm translating into English for Professor Javelin, I--"
He didn't know WHY he was saying this. Damn that Greg.
Had he perhaps awakened within the Elf the need to be with others?
.....
Well.....

Rylenn smiled gently. "If.. you want me to.. I'm rather weak in languages at the moment..." Especially considering I have never taking a class.. He grinned. "I'll be glad to keep you company...." He padded to Dante and smiled brightly. "I'll do whatever I can!"

"Actually, I was wondering if you had any questions regarding them," Dante said, spreading one of the tomes out neatly on his desk and taking a notebook he'd been translating into. "I have some notebooks and things that you might like to take a look at, especially things regarding angels--REAL Angels. Would you like to borrow some to read prior to your class?"

Rylenn's eyes widened. "R-really?!" He sounded.. far too excited. He cleared his throat and blushed. "Really? I mean.. I could borrow them..?" His head tilted and he bit his lip. This was too unreal. An elf giving him a book on angels. And it isn't a religiously biased book. "I would love to read it.."
He wriggled in his seat. Oh wouldn't this be fun.. .

Dante couldn't stop a small smirk from forming on his lips at Rylenn's excitement.
"All right then. Would you like a tome on the epic poems written by them? Or a book on their history, anatomy, and the such? And would you prefer one of the translated tomes or do you want me to provide you with a translation book I'm working on?"

"I would love to help translate... but I don't think.. I think I would do poorly.. considering I don't know the language...." He nodded. "So a book of their history and anatomy.. would do fine." He seemed to droop some. He wanted to translate.. find something that had been lost for AGES.
But he was limited at the moment.. so he would take what he would get.

"....Tycho and a couple of others are coming in to study with me...to supplement their knowlege of languages. If you come, you could perhaps learn a thing or two," Dante said, but he handed the boy the translated journal anyway.
"Is there any other way I can help you?"

He smiled gently. "I can't think of a way... thank you, Dante... though I know I will be brooding in the morning... I know I feel better..." He held the book to his chest, now dry from all the sitting. "You must be lonely when you do this work.. do you.. do you want me to come and keep you company? You can do work while I study.. I'll be quiet.. I promise."

"If only Professor Gregory had your tame personality," Dante said, something that might have been a chuckle escaping his lips. "I suppose we can't all be as mature as we ought to be sometimes."
Dante thought a moment, then nodded. "Yes. Feel free to come in anytime. My office is open to those that sign up, though, so be certain you sign in for some time slots, please."
He liked the boy, but he had his rules.

Rylenn refused to let his smile falter. "All right.. I will.. just don't be suprised if I've taken up the entire afternoon..." He held the book closer to his chest.
He paused for a moment and thought to himself. "Does this school ever take holidays? You know.. like Christmas..."

"Actually, you're not allowed to take more than three slots at any one time," Dante said quietly. Not condescending. Not cruel. Just informative so that he saved himself and his other peers a lot of headache.
But he had a feeling that the boy would understand.
"You are, of course, welcome to take the crows with you as long as you are quiet when you take out the birds," Dante said, reaching out and scratching Gelnuir's feathers as the bird made a satisfied growling sound and poofed his feathers. "Just open the door and hold out your arm. The birds will come to you."

Rylenn smiled gently. "All right.. I guess they are as good as you, right? What exactly can I feed them and what can I not feed them? For future reference?" He chose to just take the slot comment in stride. He knew it wasn't anything personal, but.. it made him a little sad. He liked spending time with the elf. "What if no one has signed up for the time?"
