Shira scoffed lightly.
"I have trained Yakuti long enough for him to think and act on his own. He does not need someone like me to mother him and mind you that I would never," she shrugged and rolled a little to make herself feel a little more comfortable. "He is an adult now, he can take care of himself. He will be a father and he is a guard. He best put those two together and be a better father."
She looked away from Mafa and sighed. Becoming the pregnant the way she had was not the best way for such a thing to be done, upon that, she never planned to start a family. It was too late for that, the seed of a new life for what was within her and herself with Yakuti was already sown. She was just going to have to make the best of it.
"I know I can do this, hell, you were able to so that must make me overqualified!" she laughed. "If I can raise Yakuti to what he is now, I believe I can do the better for my own pups."
Shira sneered. "You know, by the way you say all of this, I think you are one of the most heartless hyena in this graveyard, using this male for an heir. And here I thought I was your best member," she shrugged again. "If you do manage an heir and I manage a male, perhaps they could pair up, it would be interesting to see how they would."
Having Mafa, the Alpha of the pack say that a male was better than her, a female... it was almost more demeaning than being used for a male's primal use.

There was a distant look in Mafa's eyes as she gazed idily at Shira. She and Yakuti, they seemed like a good couple, a strong couple. The epitome of what hyenas should be. Now if only there were more like them.
"I feel... I feel you will make a good mother Shira. You still have compassion. Just raise them well. Raise them to be proper hyenas, suit to live here in my graveyard."
The alpha trailed off lightly, wincing as a soft paw from within her knocked against her belly. Soon, the mess of pups were squirming around within her with vigor. At times, Mafa tried to keep count, figure out just how many there were. Definitely more than one, definitely more than two. But who really knew. Back to the matter at hand, Mafa's hard gaze seemed to snap back,
"Rasuli is... A worthy hyena to produce an heir, that is all. I found him, by chance, when he was a pup. He's been with me ever since. He was a strange pup, but he's evened out with age. He's grown up in my care... I can't help but to favor him. Though Shira, don't fret, you're an indespensible asset to this pack."
The most heartless hyena... Mafa sighed. Had it really come to that? Hell, she wasn't about to change. Compassion, love, sympathy, none of these were part of her dictionary. It didn't especially matter to her what the others thought of her, as long as they still saw her as law of the land, and respected her.
"A pairing? Interesting suggestion, Shira... Interesting indeed..."
Once again, her voice trailed off. She'd met neither of the pups, she couldn't say for sure. But what she did know, was then both sets of pups did come, she'd make sure they knew each other, that both were raised with the right mindset. That was a given.

Shira sighed.
"I have not met Rasuli much, I am afraid. I hardly know many around here, my job is just to guard and patrol. I only know of you, Yakuti, Tibuka, and that little one of yours. But if this Rasuli was raised by you... then he can't be too bad of male. Perhaps he and Yakuti would be good males, ones worthy of actually being called males in my eyes," she shrugged. She still detested most males, those who were given names were worthy of her attention. "I am one of the best assets this pack has."
"Yes, a pairing. Imagine the duo could do, with out great abilities passed onto new lives, well, we could take over that pathetic lion scum on our land. Our numbers grow by ten folds and we could simply send in the new fresh blood to their meager weaklings. No survivors! No one left to degrade our land."
"Mafa, don't you get sentamental on me. I will do as i see fit. If I can raise a goody goody like Yakuti to become such a strong and a monster of a male he is, I can do better with pups... from scratch. Yakuti was tainted before, but not these... and they best not be," she rubbed her belly a little. " Is it wrong that I tried to scare Yakuti by saying I would kill these cubs for doing what he did to me? Let me tell you a little secret.
"I sort of liked it, it was more of the way a hyena should be invisioned. Big and strong, relentless... but it still hurts to know that this is what it comes to, broken back, sore, pains, starving... being pregnant is worse than having my bottom lip being pulled over my head!"

"There are not many qualified males. Tukutu... used to be held high in my eyes, but any more."
Mafa wrinkled her nose and shook her head; some very subtle signs of her contempt for him. Mabozi was grown and he was still no where to be seen. Not only had he not provided her in the attempt for an heir, but he'd abandoned the place to her knowledge.
"Oh, the fate of those lions is to be wiped out. They are not meant to be here. Only we are."
Placing a paw on her bulding abdomen, Mafa sighed.
"I do not doubt your mothering abilities, Shira. Do as you see fit, but do not dissapoint me with them."
The alpha's ears perked as Shira kept speaking. It was a good feeling, that the other female trusted her enough to speak so freely. But her trust was not misplaced, Mafa was as tight-lipped as they came.
"It's not wrong, it's not strange. I wouldn't place you as the type to enjoy a more... subtle version of mating. And no, pregnancy is nothing to be enjoyed; not in my eyes. I abhor it, to tell you the truth. But I do it for this. For the pack. For all of us, in the event that I will not be here someday to lead."

Shira scoffed and looked up at her.
"If you weren't here, Mafa, then I will dominate whoever does and run it right," either that was a compliment that a strong female should take the pack over or that she was not running it right at the moment. Hard to tell being from Shira. "But I doubt you will be gone before Mabozi mated off or your current litter grow into adulthood."
The tawny female raised to her legs with slight ease, stretching a little before looking down at her. Her belly was similar to her own, swelling with life. Her own belly kicked at times but she had grown to ignore the bothersome pains. Her back ached constantly, but it was just something she will have to endure. Her thoughts reeled about keeping the pups or killing one off or just black mail Yakuti in some way or another.
"You raise yours to become strong members of the pack, the males better be good enough for me. Don't disappoint me. As for the female, I am sure you could raise a decent heir. I will raise my litter to be worthy members that would rival your own," she let out a slight chuckle. She was set on the idea that her family will be just as good as Mafa's, perhaps even better.
The word 'lion' gave her a bad taste in her mouth and mad her ear flick. Disliking them with a passion.
"They will leave our lands... or they shall become a part of the Elephant Graveyard."

Mafa glared at Shira for a few silent minutes, trying to figure out what connotaion she was speaking in. She duely hoped that the tawny female wasn't trying to insult her way of leading the pack. Mafa enjoyed their strange friendship, but if Shira had a problem, Mafa would not be conflicted in ending these friendly ties.
"I'm not going anywhere. I've raised this pack from it's death, I'm the only one that can lead it properly."
Mafa watched Shira stand, but she made no similar movements. She was content to just lounge here, not wanting to exert any effort at the moment. However, she couldn't help but laugh at her next statement,
"Mabozi? Mated? That'll be the day. It's highly doubted, I wouldn't wish him as a mate on anyone of our females."
She shook her head, just thinking about it. Of course, Mabozi had potential, she knew it. There was a savage killer in there somewhere, maybe something more. She'd become much more affectionate of him after she'd found that out. But primarily, Mabozi was a bumbling idiot, nothing impressive. Her new pups would be worth something more. She'd make sure of it.
"It's not you I am to please with the rearing of these new pups. But they will be up to par. They will surpass their brother, and a female, I will make sure she in her adult years is equal to me. A rivalry, I sense? Who's pups will be better? I assume it'll be a while before we see."
Mafa grinned lightly, the thought of it wasn't entirely ridiculous.

"Well, we'll see what will happen then. You will have to pass on the rank to either your daughter or another. Hopefully, she does not let you down." She scoffed, doubting that Mafa's heir would disappoint anyone. Then again, there was that possibility.
Her tail swung idly behind her before her head craned back to look in the direction of the den. Omoa and Yakuti best be home with some food for her or else there was going to be some skull breaking. She sighed and shook her head. Omoa couldn't catch anything that was worth eating, at least not very filling for a hyena. As for Yakuti, he was probably patroling like he should be.
"Mabozi is still a member of our pack, he is your son. Give the male some credit, stupid as he is, there must be someone as equally as stupid somewhere out there that he can nail down. Though, I would pity the female who happens to fall for him. If he finds someone stupid or worse than he is, I wouldn't have to." her tone was more joking than anything else.
She personally didn't know Mabozi too well, but she had planned for her pups to intertwine with Mafa's, the only worthy youths of the pack. Though, plans have a habit of changing.
"Who's will be better? Well, I have to say that is hard to say, Mafa. If my litter falls short of yours, they will make up for it in strength and determination. I will make sure of it that you and all will acknowledge them." she smirked, a blaze of competitive spirit burned inside her.
"In the future, we will find out who's young ones are better," she spoke, turning her back to Mafa and heading back to the den. "Yours... or mine."
