Mtima smiled at Kia's joy of knowing she was not ill, and ever the optimist she still had no doubts about Kia being at least somewhat happy to hear what she had ot say next. She paid no personal mind to the comment about getting out of here, but instead chose to speak up again.

"Kia, I don't know how fast you'll be getting out here," she commented, her voice caught between cheerful and serious, "I do believe you will be having cubs, my dear."

For emphasis, she leaned over a bit to glance at Kia's stomach before leaning back in and nodding her confirmation of the idea.

User Image For a moment longer Kia's face remained bright and cheerful, even after what her aunt had to say her expression was little effected at first, but any careful observer would realize that this wasn't exactly happy news for Kia. It was like a moment of silence before storm almost as her smiles and cheerful expression slowly slid off of her face. Her brows rose slightly and her eyes widened again as her words slowly sunk in. For a mouth her mouth hung agape as she looked back at Mtima, an almost comically blank expression written across her face as she finally stammered out a few words.

"wait now.... cubs?" her eyes now fell to the dirt ground, her mouth still hanging slightly in disbelief "you mean.... I'm PREGNANT?" Kia's lower lip quivered as her open mouth twisted into a sort of frown and her brows furrowed as she firmly planted her rear against the ground as if she needed to ground herself in some sort of way.

For a moment she just stared at Mtima with a pained expression, her mouth moving often as if she was trying to form words in her mouth, but the only word that escaped from time to time was "cubs" in several confused and exasperated tones.

Mtima watched Kia expectantly, and her own cheerful expression faded away for a more concerned one. Kia looked beyond surprised, she looked almost hurt by the idea that she was having cubs. Perhaps this was not such wonderful news, but the goddess could not imagine any such thing! No, Kia must just be surprised.

"Yes, cubs," she repeated, not sounding quite as cheerful now, "And I'd guess more than a couple.."

'Five, actually,' Mtima thought inwardly, though she'd never say it outloud. Saying an exact number while pretending to be a mortal might be just a little suspicious- especially when she found out she was correct.

User Image Surprised was an understatement when it came to this matter. Throughout most of Kia's life she had looked at cubs as something that would be a bother, a hinderance. Mtima spoke some truth, with cubs around she surely wouldn't be able to get out of the pridelands at all. They would be the cage that bound her to these lands.

Kia scrunched her nose a bit as she thought. No, cubs themselves didn't seem dreadfully awful, but with cubs came with a word that was like a living nightmare to Kia and now she would have to face it, perhaps alone. she frowned

"Responsibility..." she said solemnly "Is it awful?" her brows knitted as she spoke. The cubs she thought... perhaps she could handle them, but that wretched word responsibility mocked her, haunted her, held her back. She had avoided it for so long and now it was there like a shadow, like a sickness. Except this sickness would not pass quite as easily as a cold. She looked inquisitively at Mtima, surely she would say that everything would be alright. Kia just guessed that it was finally her time to grow up... and she hated the idea.

Mtima watched Kia carefully as she came to terms with the idea of having cubs and the responsibility that came with them. She could see that it was not easy for the young lioness to deal with. She must not have known what could come of what happened with the charming fellow she met, for Mtima felt certain now she was referring to the father when she spoke of him.

"It is not always easy," she shook her head, thinking about her own cubs and how much trouble she'd had with them. She could only imagine how things might have been with more siblings around, "No, it's definetely not easy, and sometimes you might think it's awful, but you always love them."

The goddess spoke from her own experience. It hurt her but she knew she loved Kilango, and that daughter was the main cause of her own troubles with cubs. She could not imagine ever viewing cubs as a mistake, accidental or unplanned perhaps but never a mistake.

User Image Kia hung her head for a moment, staring with heavy eyes at her feet that now burnt with an intensified passion. What she wouldn't give to dart off into the horizon, to feel the wind whipping through her fur and never look back. That wouldn't happen now, but at least there would be a new adventure before her, children of her own.

Her eyebrows mashed together as she continued to look downwards in concentration. For Kia the idea of raising cubs was harder to grasp than not and her mind couldn't help but wander to those unbeaten paths that were now roped off by one--or more than one--cub.

Some adventure responsibility would be, but she was assured by the word 'love' that came out of Mtima's mouth. It was a magical word that Kia had hardly ever experienced. She recalled the feeling of a deep bond that exsisted when she met her father, but this bond didn't seem to tie her to the weight in her stomach, or even the cause of all this. It was all just a garble of problems, consequences, and hopes that it would all turn out okay.

"Really Aunty?" she said with a slight gleam of hope in her almost sad looking eyes "I sure hope so"

It didn't take a lot to see how Kia felt about this whole situation. The saddness that remained in her expression despite her somewhat optimistic words made Mtima worry, and wish there was something more she could do besides offer her own advice. Kia liked to run, she liked to be free- she'd just have to find a way to balance cubs and those things. Whatever might have crossed her mind about running away was pushed aside.

"I'm sure," she answered, and then she got to her feet. The goddess took the few steps over to Kia and gave her a hug-like nuzzle in an attempt to comfort and reassure her.

"Everything will work out, Kia," she said firmly, certain that Kia would find a way to make it work. Mtima was confident in her 'neice''s resourcefulness.

User Image Kia returned the nuzzle and felt comforted to have some sort of family with her now when she felt like she needed it most. She smiled slightly, her heart still heavy at the idea of what seemed like dismissing the very essence of her youth, her adventure, her zest for life. She could only picture herself sitting idly in these grassy plains, watching and protecting a bundle or two of "joy" run around, it would be like watching herself and watching what she once had. It caused her pain to think that perhaps she would be alone in all this, all of this that in all honesty she didn't want any part of to begin with.

Her eyes clouded with wet as she recalled the event from not too long ago. A moment of naivety cost her her youth, her plans, her dreams. Somehow her troubled mind was consoled by her aunt's soothing words, but her feet were only quieted for now. Now like her adventurous heart, her feet laid themselves to rest, only dormant now and waiting, waiting perhaps for a single important moment that they could spring to action, spring from the troubles of adventures and dreams lost.

A silent tear rolled down Kia's cheek as she was relieved of her desire to leave for the moment, and though she still felt that everything was not okay she allowed herself to be completely reassured by Mtima and she almost smiled as she looked longingly across the prideland towards the horizon away from pride rock, glowing from the comfort of her aunty's words.

"Yes Mtima," she said quietly "I believe you"
