--[ Regarding Hair ]--

“It’s too… long.”

Takumi flipped a page of his manga book, too immersed in the story to look up. “Mmm… what’s too long?” he murmured absentmindedly.

“Your hair,” Ena clarified, making her way over to the sofa and flopping down next to her brother. She reached over to tug at a strand. “Look at it! It’s all… messy and plain and…long.” She flicked the strand playfully and began pulling at Takumi’s hair, trying to estimate just how many inches it had grown.

“…Ow! What are you doing?!” His attention was fully drawn to his sister now, and he frowned, setting the manga down onto the coffee table in front of them. “There’s nothing wrong with my hair… I haven’t done anything with it,” he grumbled, trying to untangle the locks from Ena’s hands. “And what are you doing in my room? Shouldn’t you be out with your friends or doing something productive or playing with that cat of yours?”

“His name is Amadeus!” she sniffed, giving up on her attempt to guess the correct hair length. “And he’s having his bath right now. You know how he doesn’t like baths.” The little girl winced at the thought of her precious cat being forced into the tub. “Poor Amadeus… I hope he’s ok.”

Takumi rolled his eyes. “Shouldn’t you be more worried about the servants who’re washing him? I told you to declaw that cat when you first got him.” The vivid image of the mansion’s servants being clawed to bits appeared in his mind, and he grimaced.

“Whatever! That’s not the point!” Ena pouted. “Your hair makes you look… scruffy. Everyone’s going to laugh at you. You need a haircut,” she concluded, a big smile forming on her face.

Her brother sighed dramatically and slumped back on the couch, covering his face with a cushion. “Come on! Get a new cut,” she wheedled. “You’re starting a new year in school, aren’t you? So it’ll be something to go with… the theme of newness.”

“Newness? Is that a word?” Takumi said, his voice muffled by the pillow.

“Will you quit changing the subject! I’m going to get you an appointment and then tell our chauffer to get ready.” The 9 year old bounced up from the sofa and skipped down the stairs before Takumi could protest.

“… Ah, crap.”

-o-o-o-

“Any ideas of what you’re looking for?” the hair stylist asked cheerfully to the grumbling boy seated in the chair in front of her.

“Oh, he’ll get it trimmed to the neck, and have it stick out a bit on the sides,” the grumbling boy’s sister chirped from her seat next to the pair. “Like how it used to look. And he needs some pizzazz! How about… some dye?”

“What?” Takumi blinked incredulously. “Since when did I dye my hair?” He watched the hairdresser wet his hair with a spray bottle and begin to snip off strands with an almost remorseful look on his face.

“Since now! I think red will look good on you,” Ena said enthusiastically, craning her neck to see the progress. “Just a bit though. Too much and you’ll look like one of those weird punk people.”

“Weird punk people?” He repeated under his breath, furrowing his brow as the hair stylist applied a bit of dye to his hair. She was still smiling.

Ena nodded excitedly, fidgeting in her seat as they waited. In time, the stylist combed out Takumi’s hair and began to blow-dry it. He watched as his hair retained that spike-ish look from before, but now edged with red. It’s actually… quite stylish, he thought to himself.

“All done!” the hairdresser called out, happy with her work. She glanced admiringly at Takumi, who was too busy examining his head in the mirror to notice. Ena wiggled out from her chair to get a closer look. “See! Perfect! I bet you’ll impress everyone and get a lot of girlfriends.”

Takumi couldn’t stop the blush from rising to his face. “Girlfriends? I’m not that type of person!” The hair stylist giggled, and he gave her an embarrassed look. “Well um… thanks,” he coughed out. “We’ll pay at the door.” He walked awkwardly towards the entrance, his little sister hopping after him with delight.

Dear Journal,

Well Ena has ever so kindly stated that guys don’t keep diaries... so I guess this is a journal. Just a place to rant about things… so I can come back and read it when I’m bored. Though if this is indeed a journal, then… anyone can read it? Man, I gotta keep this a secret… Therefore, I’m going to hide it at –– ...what, you honestly think I’m going to write that in here? But then if someone’s reading this, then it means they’ve already found it… Damn.

Just for the record, I got this... journal at the gift shop where I picked up that fox plushie for Mitsuko. I like the simple design on the cover. I suppose I bought it on a whim. Hopefully it'll come in handy for this coming school year.

I shall jot down some of the latest happenings, as a start. Mitsuko's birthday party was quite fun, to say the least. Even some of the 1-B students showed up... it's nice to get to know people outside of my class. Although, there was some sort of high heel curse during the whole party. At a time like that, it makes me glad guys don't wear high heels. Though I don't know about Roka... the poor guy. I'm not sure if he realized some of us figured out it was him under that attire. He seemed awfully uneasy about the whole thing; perhaps I shouldn't bring it up next time I see him. But I'm still very curious why he showed up like that.

I think I've finally snapped. Being kept indoors has messed with my mind... the other day I snuck out with Mikan. Of course, I had to beg the maids to cover up for me. I'm glad I'm on good terms with the servants. Glad indeed. Mikan was as energetic as ever... it turns out she was walking me instead. I swear her energy just keeps growing every year. But anyways, I came across Minori at the park during my outing. She seemed preoccupied with something... girl problems, I think she said. I didn't want to pry, though I was quite worried about her. But she noticeably cheered up a bit after we sat down and had a nice conversation. I've asked her out, can you believe that? Well... it's more of an outing. Nothing big. But it's something to look forward to. I need to work on my improvisation skills if I am to meet her father.

Well, Father was rather displeased that I dyed a bit of my hair. He was already annoyed with my hairstyle when I first got it, but has come to accept it. I guess the dye was a bit much. Ena's been trying to cheer him up and keeps ranting about how I'm going to be "cool" around my classmates. Thank god she didn't bring up the thing with the girlfriends. Ugh... Father will blow a blood vessel if he heard about that.

I hear someone coming up the stairs. Maybe it's one of the maids with the laundry. Well if I am to keep this journal a secret, I'd better stop writing here. Until next time, then.
