I stayed up uber-late on Saturday night watching movies. I watched *ahem*:
Stigmata Queen of the Damned Wrong Turn Brahm Stoker's Dracula The Craft
3nodding
T3h awesome. It was really fun, I got to gorge myself on root beer and popcorn and chips. Then I played DDR all Sunday. I didn't do anything sunday night, I was really tired from getting about 3 hours of sleep on saturday and playing DDR for another four or five that day.

GameAngel64 DrathBlue Edit. I think it's unfair that the church want to ban halloween. It's new year to pagans plus it's part of many people's reilgon. eek The church wants to ban Halloween!? Like, your local church, or like the Vatican City??? like all the churches in Britain, it was on our news, radios and papers. They annouced it like 5 days before Halloween but failed here because of the parnets protested. Mind you I also heared they are asking the pope to get involded. sweatdrop

It falls on an unrelated pagan holiday, samhain, yes, but the two can, and are, mutually exclusive. Now, the church trying to stop trick or treating, which is the fault of commercialism, not religion as far as I'm aware, is a different story. So we all get to cosplay as something one day a year, get over it. Sorry for the rant, I'm just tired of people calling Halloween a pagan holiday when it isn't.

So we all get to cosplay as something one day a year, get over it. Sorry for the rant, I'm just tired of people calling Halloween a pagan holiday when it isn't. It does fall on a Pagan holiday, yes, but I personally believe that All Hallow's Eve... the original Christian holiday that evolved into Halloween... would not exist without that Pagan holiday. All Hallow's eve is the eve of All Hallow's day (obviously). Hallow is a word meaning to honor or revere, specifically in terms of holiness. All Hallow's Day is also known as All Saints Day and is the day on which all saints were honoured by the church. The next day is All Souls Day and is the day on which ALL good Christians of the past were honoured. These two days were days on which Christians honoured their dead heros. This is EXACTLY what the Pagan holiday is about. (Yes, there's more to the Pagan holiday, but I won't get into that). Now, if you read the bible, I don't know of a single place where it says to reserve a day to honour the dead, let alone sets a date on which to do so. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. It's just not set in place by the book. This day came about because of the church. I'm not going to get into whether they were insoired by the Pagan holiday or decided to use it to convert, but I just wanted to let everyone know the facts. By the way, this is an EXCELLENT website if you want to know more: http://www.illusions.com/halloween/

GameAngel64 Halloween does have a deeper significance to me beyond candy, but I wouldn't say it's explicitly religious in my case. Halloween is one of those holidays where people just give freely for the joy of the children, without expecting any gifts in return (except for perhaps avoiding an egging wink ). It's just a fun holiday where people dress up and have... fun. It's a creative holiday, too. Also, where I live, it's one of the few days of the year where neighbors walk around and actually interact with each other. I find it to be a very joyous occassion of fun, friends, community, creativity, and mystic splendor. As far as what I did, my friends and I went Trick-or-Treating, so don't feel bad, A Murder of Angels, because our ages range from 16-21. You're never to old to get something for free!! 3nodding Nor too old to have fun! Besides the Trick-or-Treating (in my costume, I was pretty cold), we went back to my house and watched "Sleepy Hollow." I thought it was appropriate since a few of my friends have a low tolerance for scary movies, and I consider this movie to be more like a 'supernatural suspense action' type movie than a horror. If no one minds, here's a costume picture: The picture is resized, so the quality is only so-so. I'm Rinoa and my boyfriend, Andy, is Squall. Those are video game characters from Final Fantasy VIII, for those of you who don't know. Hey! Thats me! ^_^

I'll admit that Halloween probably wouldn't exist without Samhain. Honestly, more than one holiday has been created by the Catholic church that falls on top of, or quite close, to an ancient pagan one. But we all get inspiration from somewhere, right? Why not from the heathens. ((Yes, this is satire.))

I still trick-or-treat like the dork that I am, but I very much believe that Halloween is the night that spirits of the dead can come to Earth and do whatever beastly things they desire, so I do honor them. Mostly I pray a lot and think about the dead all day and the days before, and write about it. I tend to have a lot of weird dreams around that time too. It's sort of creepy. BTW: Does anyone still trick-or-treat, or am I alone in my dorkiness?
